It’s a tradition that I do my best handicapping at Meydan (I like all-weather surfaces in general), though I usually only play Meydan on Dubai World Cup. In 2011 my Dubai World Cup picks could have given you a way to buy a new car. In 2012 I broke even with two nice winners, and in 2013 I was blanked except for Animal Kingdom, which was easy money.
I will give out my Dubai WC picks in 3 weeks, but their “Preview Super Saturday” is on tap Tomorrow morning starting at 8:10 EST and I handicapped the card. Hopefully I can put the believin’ peeps onto a few winners.
MEYDAN’s MARCH 7th SUPER SATURDAY PICKS
Race 2 – Pass. The 6/5 ML favorite lost the prep for this race by 4.5 lengths and the other horses look t-e-r-r-b-l-e…
Race 3
#6 Shea Shea (3/1 ML) – This horse won’t have a lot of value but I think he might make a decent single in the pick 3.
Race 4
#11 Russian Soul (9/2 ML) has never missed the exacta on the plastic (7-3-4-0) and his turn of foot on the Meydan surface is explosive.
#14 Soft Falling Rain is undefeated at Meydan (3 for 3). Top four 11-14-12-10
Race 5
#11 Variety Club (2/1 ML) is 19-14-3-1 on the grass. Pretty solid.
#4 Forjatt (30/1 ML) is a really game horse and the price is very juicy, especially in exactas and trifectas.
#10 Haatheq (8/1 ML) is decent and ran OK against the top pick.
Race 6
#8 Songcraft (5/1 ML) is really well bred (by Singspiel out of a Nureyev mare) and won the prep for this. Drew much better than main danger Meandre.
#15 Meandre (8/1 ML) figures to improve quite a bit second start off the layoff.
#3 Empoli (12/1 ML) has great German form, may need another race for his best but I expect this one to be a factor.
#5 Excellent Result (12/1) doesn’t appear to have the class of the top three but his best races have come at 12 furlongs and longer.
Race 7
PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of these horses are trying to draw into the Dubai World Cup, many of these horses are directly connected to Godolphin, and it is hard to predict who will win. Note: There has been a trend that the winner of this race flops in the Dubai World Cup.
Race 8
#2 Vercingetorix (3/1) is 5 for 5 lifetime and is trained by master conditioner Mike de Kock. Probably the most likely winner of the day.
#3 Vancouverite (6/1 ML) is 4 for 6 lifetime but comes into this race very fresh. Wait and see.
#10 Anaerobio (20/1 ML) is also trained by de Kock and figures to lead. Should run well.
