Race 2C (Caulfield) – 11:25 PM EDT FRIDAY
Interesting 7 furlong handicap. The horse that caught my eye was #2 PYRROLIC. The horse is well bred, is 2 for 4 wins lifetime, and drew well in post 2. Pyrrolic’s speed figures are also very strong and Brad Rawiller is a good jock and won with the horse in its last start. I think it is also noteworthy that this horse won first off the layoff, because most Australian-trained horses are set to run as well if not better second off the layoff. The last thing I like about this horse is the six furlong straight course at Flemington usually favors horses within 2 lengths of the lead early, but this horse closed from almost dead last early to win its last start. Caulfield is a track that favors closers more than any other Melbourne area track, so I expect good things. A 7/2 ML here, but I would make this horse a legitimate 5/2 chance in this race because it has so many positive factors.
Race 5C (Caulfield) – 1:10 AM EDT Saturday “Morning”
A nice Grade 3 sprint at 6 furlongs – the Bletchingly Stakes.
The BIG favorite is #5 LORD OF THE SKY, who is reported to have moved forward coming into this race, owns the top speed figure, and is 6-5-0-0 lifetime at Caulfield. Media outlets report he is currently “odds on” at 7/10 with Aussie bookmakers.
If you are looking for more value, both #2 LE BONSIR and #3 NEAREST TO PIN are decent animals that can win if Lord Of The Sky has an off day. The others in the race appear to be no hopers.
