Breeders’ Cup Weekend is here and BetPTC.com has all the action
The biggest weekend of the year, the Breeders’ Cup is this weekend, Friday October 31st and Saturday November 1st. BetPTC.com has you taken care of as the place to make your wagers for the weekend with the best horses, biggest purses, and most importantly, the biggest payouts. The $5,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Classic is the Saturday headliner and has drawn a full field of fourteen runners including favorite Shared Belief. Shared Belief is undefeated and overcame his biggest test in the Awesome Again over the Santa Anita track last time out when he beat Fed Biz. He’ll have to best Kentucky Derby and Preakness hero California Chrome as well as Belmont winner Tonalist. Tonalist is coming off a big win in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and should be closing if the pace gets hot. With Bayern and Moreno in the race the pace should be solid and depending on which of the two gets the lead could have a big say in who wins.
The Saturday undercard is much more than an undercard. It’s a parade of Grade 1 events with huge and talented fields. The Breeders’ Cup Mile lost a little bit of it’s luster as Wise Dan will not be back, however multiple Group 1 winner Toronado certainly figures to be a big contender. Europeans are always dangerous when they ship over, but it is this horse’s first try in the States, so he will have to acclimate. Obviously could be a decent price play if he’s allowed to go off on his own early. He loves Santa Anita and is capable of putting up a big number. The Breeders’ Cup Sprint drew a full cast going six furlongs including last year’s winner Secret Circle. East coast shipper Palace has been so sharp this entire year and will try his luck against the West Coast speedsters.
The Breeders’ Cup Turf is always a showcase battle between the Americans and the Euros, with the Euros generally having a bit of an advantage. Main Sequence might be the best hope for the Americans as he’s come alive since coming to America three starts back. He’s won three straight Grade 1’s and will be closing late in this race. Flintshire is coming off a great 2nd place finish behind the amazing Treve in the Arc De Triomphe. Telescope drew the rail and the riding services of Ryan Moore who is one of the top riders in the world. Telescope is a multiple Group 2 winner for trainer Michael Stout.
Daredevil figures to be a strong favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile after the scratch of American Pharoah. Daredevil has won two straight races including a big score in the Grade 1 Champagne. Daredevil is trained by Todd Pletcher as is Carpe Diem who is also undefeated in two starts. Carpe Diem dominated the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland last time and will ship out west for the Juvenile.
The Breeders’ The Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is always a wide open scramble and the two-time defending champ Mizdirection is not here to once again beat the boys. As expected there is a ton of early pace, but also many horses making their first trip down the hill. Tightend Touchdown was second in this race last year and should be close up early on. Reneesgotzip has hit the board in both the last two editions of this race and she should be out winging early on. Many horses are shortening up from mile races to try this sprint such as Bobby’s Kitten and Silentio. Bobby’s Kitten has been a speedy miler for much of his career and this will be his first time shortening up to a sprint. If he can get on the lead or close to it, his added fitness could make him a player. Silentio tends to hit the board quite often and should be closing late to possibly hit the exotics.
The Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint drew ten runners including the red hot Artemis Agrotera. Artemis Agrotera has won three straight races including overcoming a tough trip last time out at Belmont to win the Gallant Bloom Handicap. Sweet Reason drew the rail for the Filly and Mare Sprint and is turning back after a very game second place finish behind Untapable in the Grade 1 Cotillion. Speed was deadly that day at Parx and she managed to close from well of the pace. Judy the Beauty was second in this race last year so she clearly enjoys running at Santa Anita, which gives her an advantage over many of her rivals who will be trying the course for the first time.
The Filly and Mare Turf sees the return of last year’s winner Dank. She didn’t do much in her last start which was in June in the Prince of Wales. Just the Judge is coming off a nice win in the Grade 1 EP Taylor last time out and figures to be a big chance for Jamie Spencer. Dayatthespa has become a big player on the filly turf circuit and is coming off a big win in the Grade 1 First Lady. Keeneland has proven to be her favorite surface though, so Santa Anita might not be her desired footing. Secret Gesture leads the European charge in the Filly and Mare Turf and is coming off a good third place finish in a Group 1 event. The Juvenile Fillies sees the rematch of Angela Renee and Conquest Titan, who ran 1-2 in the Chandelier Stakes last time out at Santa Anita.
The Saturday Breeders’ Cup Day card at Santa Anita kicks off at 1:15pm EST.

Breeders’ Cup Distaff headlines Breeders’ Cup Friday
The first four races of the Breeders’ Cup weekend will be run Friday afternoon at Santa Anita with the $2,000,000 Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff being the headliner. Both Untapable and Close Hatches figure to the two big favorites and both drew the two far outside posts. Close Hatches will likely send hard early on because of being in the eleven hole and Untapable should sit back a few lengths off of her. Don’t Tell Sophia and Belle Gallantey seem to be the logical horses if neither of the top two fire their best shot. Don’t Tell Sophia put together her best effort last time out when she won the Grade 1 Spinster by open lengths at Keeneland. Belle Gallantey is a former low level claimer who has blossomed into a multiple Grade 1 winner. Her two best races have been when she’s gone wire to wire so look for her to try and get the lead, even though there’s plenty of speed in this spot.
The Juvenile Filly Turf drew a full cast and in these Juvenile turf races it’s always smart to look for the best European shipper. Qualify is coming off a nice win at the Curragh and draws the services of Ryan Moore. Osaila is another viable option as she’s been very consistent in Europe and draws the services of Frankie Dettori. Sunset Glow certainly has the Southern California home court advantage as she’s coming off a pair of graded wins at Del Mar in her last two races. She closed well from off the pace last time at seven furlongs and will be trying two turns for the first time.
The Dirt Mile is always a fun betting race but this year there is a huge favorite in defending champ Goldencents. Goldencents pulled off a huge wire job last year and depending on how the track plays, he could do it again this year. Goldencents drew the rail so expect Rafael Bejarano to send him right away. Horses like Fed Biz and Vicar’s in Trouble should keep Goldencents honest while Tapiture could be a closer to watch. The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf features fourteen rookies including some talent from overseas. War Envoy wasn’t far off in a Group 1 from Longchamp last time out. Conquest Typhoon and International Star both ship down from the Grey Stakes at Woodbine and both could be contenders in this spot.
