BetPTC.com Weekend Stakes Preview

BetPTC.com Welcomes Woodbine and Mohawk

BetPTC.com is proud to welcome racing from Woodbine and Mohawk to our already great stable of partner tracks.  Players will be able to wager on both the top Thoroughbred and Harness tracks north of the border all year round.  Racing from Woodbine is run on a Wednesday night, and Friday through Sunday day schedule and every day offers up great racing, big fields, and great chances for huge scores.  Some of the marquee events include Queen’s Plate Day on Sunday July 7th, the Woodbine Mile Day card on Saturday September 15th and the Canadian International and EP Taylor, both Grade 1’s on Sunday October 27th.

Saturday Woodbine will offer up a pair of stakes events, the $125,000 Zadracarta and the $125,000 Steady Growth Stakes.  The Zadracarta features multiple graded stakes placed Northern Passion.  Northern Passion was third in the Grade 3 Nassua last time out and is even a Grade 3 winner for trainer Mark Casse.  She will have to beat the red hot Bear’s Gem, who has won five races in a row, including the $125,000 Ballade Stakes.  Seen it All Before comes off a win in the Vice Regent Stakes and will face 9 rivals in the seven furlong event.  Good Better Beat comes off a huge allowance win and Ultimate Destiny has a pair of strong wins so far this year at Woodbine.

$1,000,000 Pepsi North American Cup Saturday at Mohawk

Mohawk Harness Racing has arrived at BetPTC.com just in time, as Saturday night’s card is a huge one!  The card kicks off at 7:05pm EST with the North American Cup as race 7 on the program.  Captaintreacherous has been installed as the 2/1 morning line favorite and will be very tough.  Captaintreacherous has earned just shy of a million bucks and is a perfect two for two this season, including a good solid win in his qualifying heat last time.  His sire, Somebeachsomewhere is a North American Cup winner himself.  Fool Me Once will break just to his inside and is coming off the fastest qualifying time of last week, as he burned up the clock, hitting the mile in 1:48.1 and winning by two lengths with Sylvain Filion in the bike.  Last week’s mile was a career best for Fool Me Once who has won 8 of 15 career starts.  Vegas Vacation was also a qualifying heat winner last week, going all the way on the lead to win by a length and a half for Scott Zeron, who is back in the bike on Saturday night.

The North American Cup is part of a huge card from Mohawk on Saturday evening that gets underway at 7:05pm EST.

Stephen Foster Handicap headlines huge night at Churchill

Churchill Downs is known for the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby, but the third biggest day of the season is coming up on Saturday with the $500,000 Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap headlining the shot.  Successful Dan and Fort Larned will share the role of highweight, as both have been given 121 pounds to carry.  Fort Larned is last years’ Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, but has disappointed in both starts so far this year, after dumping the rider in his first start at Gulfstream and then running a no excuses fifth in the Oaklawn Handicap last time out.  He’s won at Churchill before, but was eighth in this race last year.  Successful Dan has won 8 of 12 in his career and has never been behind anyone at the finish line at Churchill Downs.  He was however disqualified from his win in the Clark back in 2010.  He’s been injury prone, but came back off the layoff last time to win the Ben Ali at Keeneland.  He’s drawn the outside post for trainer Charles Lopresti and jockey Julian Leparoux.

Ron the Greek is back to defend his title in the Stephen Foster as he rallied mightily last year to get up late to beat Wise Dan, one of the countries top runners.  Ron the Greek loves to come from far back, so it will be up to the red hot Take Charge Indy and maybe Fort Larned to set it up for his big closing kick.

Royal Delta is the headliner of the undercard events, as the champion mare will make her return to Churchill Downs.  She’s 2 for 2 in Louisville and will be making her first start since a tenth place finish in the Dubai World Cup in March.  She’s giving at least ten pounds to all her rivals, but towers over them on paper.  The big card from Churchill Downs gets underway at 6pm EST.

Grade 1 Vanity showcases top mares in So. Cal

Six fillies and mares will compete at nine furlongs on Saturday in the Grade 1 $250,000 Vanity Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park.  Open Water will take on Lady of Fifty again, whom she beat in the Grade 2 Everett Handicap back on May 18th.  They will both be receiving two pounds from race highweight More Chocolate, who is a Grade 2 winner by virtue of her score in the La Canada.  More Chocolate has never started over the synthetic surface at Hollywood Park for trainer John Sadler.  Esentepe is an interesting starter as well, stepping up off a big win in an allowance optional claiming event.

There is a pair of two year old stakes on the undercard as well, the Willard Proctor for the boys and the Cinderella for the girls, both of which are carded at five and one half furlongs.
