BetPTC.com Weekend Stakes Recap 8/10

Seek Again overcomes trouble to win the Fourstardave

Seek Again was steadied and stuck in traffic for the first half of the stretch run in Saturday’s $500,000 Fourstardave Handicap, but he found room just in time and burst late to get up and win by a neck.  Sent off as the 2/1 second choice, Seek Again (BetPTC.com Top Selection) and Joel Rosario sat fourth early on as favored Silver Max (BetPTC.com 3rd Selection) went off to set the early pace.  Silver Max was stalked by Sayaad throughout the race and Sayaad came up at the quarter pole to put a head in front as Silver Max quickly plummeted back to last.  Grand Arch (BetPTC.com Long shot) got underway in mid-stretch and grabbed the lead and looked like he might gut it out, but once Seek Again got free from his traffic trouble, he kicked it into gear late to get up and win by a neck.  Grand Arch held second ahead of Jack Milton (BetPTC.com 2nd Selection) who ran on for third.

Sunday it was the two year olds chance to shine at the Spa as the Cavorting won a very hard fought stretch battle with Angela Renee in a thrilling edition of the Adirondack.  Wonder Gal had some trouble down on the rail and could be one to watch next time out.  In the Saratoga Special it was I Spent It who put in a furious rally down on the rail and got up to win going away by almost three lengths.  I Spent It was behind a wall of horses turning for home, but a seam opened up for Javier Castellano and they burst on through.

Enterprising from last to first to win the La Jolla

At the 3/8ths pole in the $150,000 La Jolla Handicap it looked like Enterprising was going to have to get going to get the win.  Well Enterprising kicked in and then some as she powered past all her rivals in the final quarter mile to win the Grade 3 event going away.  Sent off as the 3/2 favorite, Enterprising (BetPTC.com Top Selection) got away off the pace as Schoolofhardrocks went out to set the pace.  Schoolofhardrocks opened up on the far turn and looked for a second like he might slip away.  But Schoolofhardrocks hit the wall at the top of the lane as Enterprising and I’ll Wrap It Up both blew by and battled down to the wire, finishing 1-2.

Molly Morgan holds on to win the Gardenia Stakes

Molly Morgan had to battle with Molly Morgan the entire stretch run of the $100,000 Gardenia Stakes at Ellis Park but she was able to hold on for a narrow win.  Sent off as the 4/5 favorite, Molly Morgan (BetPTC.com 2nd Selection) had the enviable position of breaking from down on the inside as the Gardenia starts on the turn at Ellis Park.  She sat just off the pace in second early on as Livi McKenzie was out to the early lead.  As they came to the top of the stretch, Molly Morgan came up and wrestled the lead away from Livi McKenzie, but had to hold off a fresh challenger in the form of Tapit’s World.  Tapit’s World (BetPTC.com Top Selection) was wide on the turn but kept on with a furious rally and battled with Molly Morgan all the way down the lane, falling just a head short of Molly Morgan at the wire.

Dixie Twist steps up in the Ontario Debutante

Dixie Twist got some good backing at the windows and rewarded her backers as she won a hard fought edition of the $125,000 Ontario Debutante.  Sent off at odds of 2/1, Dixie Twist was second early on as favored Starless Night (BetPTC.com Top Selection) went out and set the early pace.  Dixie Twist and Gary Boulanger stayed just in behind though and pounced on Starless Night on the turn.  Starless Night had no response and quickly plummeted through the pack back to last, while Dixie Twist had to hold off Roaming who came with a furious rally from last, but came up a head short at the wire.
