The following trip horses have been spotted as trip note runners and horses to watch in their subsequent starts. Keep in mind that these horses are never automatic bet-backs.
Trips July 30, 2013
Arlington Park
ARTEMUS PAPERBOY (Race 4@AP, July 26, 2013, 6 furlongs, MSW) Second choice first time starter was off a little slow and first appeared to be uncertain of his duties. He was still last when the runaway odds on leader hit the quarter pole. The firster then swung wide into the lane and went in to action passing horses with ease. He closed with a rush and just missed second. He should improve after this debut effort especially since he is in the capable hands of Wayne Catalano.
Delaware Park
TROUBLE IN LOVE (Race 5@DEL, July 22, 2013, one mile, turf, Claiming $20,000) This filly started widest of all in post 13 and traveled in mid pack early and through the turn. She then made progress but was always hemmed in and could never be set free. In the far turn it was easy to see she was full of run but remained behind the leading wall of horses. She remained boxed in until about the furlong marker and exploded once she could run. The winner caught her in the final strides, but this filly may have won by 8-10 lengths had she been free to roll.
Del Mar
RYLEIGH RULER (Race 5@DMR, July 24, 2013, 5 ½ furlongs, Maiden Claiming $30,000) Two year old filly in her debut run began slowly with a hop and a delayed beginning. She was quickly far back before she could make a run but when she did she was all business. She started to run after the opening quarter and traveled wide throughout and was 4 wide entering the stretch. She passed horses with interest and was always gaining. A second place finish a couple of lengths from the trouble free winner shows what a great race she ran.
Finger Lakes
LETSHOOTPOOL (Race 8W@FL, July 23, 2013, 6 furlongs, Allowance 2L) The troubled encountered by the mare may not have cost her a victory but it probably cost her at least one if not two positions. Moving into the turn while in contention, she was taken up ever so slightly and hesitated. She was boxed in throughout the turn which prevented her from getting a jump on the leaders when arriving at the top of the stretch.
PARX
PERIWINKLE (Race 2@PRX, July 22, 2013, one mile, Claiming $16,000) Away in good order the filly was soon in tight quarters when entering the first turn a little wide. At the beginning of the turn she clipped heels with an opponent, bobbled and was steadied forcing her to lose about 5-6 lengths. She traveled a little wide down the backstretch and was several wide when entering the far turn. She traveled wide throughout the turn and entered the stretch about 7 wide before she claimed second place and chased the winner from there. A much better effort than can be seen in her running line.
Presque lsle
MR. G.L.B. (Race 6@PID, July 24, 2013, 6 furlongs, Claiming $25,000) Third choice in the wagering broke in air and was slow to begin spotting the field 5-6 lengths. Began to make progress just before the turn but was wide throughout the turn and very wide when entering the stretch. He ran determinedly and closed well to finish fourth defeated only by a couple of lengths.
Suffolk
CONSOLACION SUR (Race 1@SUF, July 23, one mile, Claiming $4,000) This mare started along the rail and eventually flew wide in the first turn while toward the back of the field. She got straightened away down the backstretch while traveling very wide and was then fanned 6-7 wide when entering the stretch. Nonetheless, she continued to run on and make up ground to be second finishing nearly 5 lengths ahead of the show horse.
Woodbine
MAKING AMENDS (Race 8@WO, July 26, 2013, 1 1/16 miles, Claiming $40,000) The favorite was away well and when entering the first turn was checked very hard and taken up. He was forced to remain trapped on the rail down the entire backstretch and was waiting on racing room when entering the far turn. He came out of the far turn several wide and swept to the lead without trouble, but was caught late to take second money.
EMPEROR’S RING (Race 5@WO, 6 furlongs, turf, MSW) First timer traveled well along the rail and was in good position at the top of the stretch. He closed on the leaders but was quickly boxed in. Rider Da Silva tried to go out and back in but had no chance, yet his mount kept going after the leaders. As the winner closed on the outside a narrow and very late avenue opened and EMPEROR’S RING accelerated quickly and grabbed second place just a length behind the winner. The Malcolm Pierce trainee appeared to be the best in the race and should be even better over a route of ground.
