Trips July 7

MR LIGHTNING BOY (Race 1 @AP, July 3, 2014, 5 furlongs, MSW) The third choice in a good field of two year olds was hit hard out of the gate and then raced between foes down the backstretch while chasing the top pair. Shook free from initial pair and got closer to leader as more opposition came from the outside. He then rallied with determination and caught the winner for a narrow victory and showed a great deal of professionalism for a debut two year old.

MISSZIPPITYSLEWDA (Race 3 @BEL, June 29, 2014, 6 furlongs, AOC 2X) The fifth choice, usually an early speed horse, stumbled so badly at the start that her nose hit the ground, was clearly last, and was forced to work hard to reach the field. Was last at the quarter pole, rallied and was forced to move inside, then forced to move outside again, finally got a hole around the 1/16 pole and got up for second just a couple of lengths from the gate to wire winner.

ALACO CASTLE (Race 2 @CD, June 29, 2014, 6 furlongs, Claiming $16,000) The second choice tracked the leader along the rail, scooted to the outside to challenge, got the lead just shy of the quarter pole, asked for run for a brief period and flew away from the field, finish under a hand ride to win by 13 lengths. Embarrased the field.

TIMARK (Race 5 @GP, July 1, 2014, One Mile, Claiming $6,250) The second choice was as far back as fifth and gradually moved up with little effort to challenge for the lead in the turn, secured the lead without encouragement, hit the quarter pole up by a couple of lengths and then breezed to an 8 length victory without being asked and under restraint. Nothing more than a long published workout.

Lone Star

EARLY FANTASY (Race 2 @LS, June 28, 2014, 6 furlongs, AOC 1X) The second longest shot on the board was full of run but began a waiting game midway in the far turn and continued to the top of the stretch, where she tried to make progress and was forced to check and take up, she then fell back to last and swung wide to have room at about the furlong marker, unleashed a furious rally and got up after passing all others to defeat the odds on favorite.

JUST DO IT PLEASE (Race 3 @PRX, June 30, 2014, 5 ½ furlongs, Claiming $5,000) The odds-on favorite was last to begin, checked slightly at the half mile pole while trying to advance, came 5-6 wide in stretch looking for room, checked around the 3/16 pole then tried to move inside and checked slightly again about 1/8 pole, came back out, got room to run, and finished second a little more than a length from the winner. Much the best.

NORTH OF NEVER (Race 2 @WO, June 30, 2014, 1 1/16 miles, Claiming $20,000) The third choice traveled in mid pack and became boxed in midway in the far turn. Was forced to hesitate and tried to move outward when entering stretch behind a wall of foes, was then forced to dive back to the rail around the furlong marker, got through and went on to win, but it could have been more decisively.

STAR OF THE FOREST (Race 2 @WO, July 1, 2014, 1 1/16 miles, Claiming $8,000 2L) The third choice did not break and then well after the field departed the gate, hopped, and then began to participate. The initial event cost the filly at least a half-dozen lengths. She then traveled about 4-5 wide throughout the first turn after being hustled to catch the field, made progress down the back stretch while still wide, wen wide into the far turn and lost ground, then began to make progress while appearing to be distracted by the grandstand noise. She continued to run on and managed to collect thid place about 5 lengths from the winner.
