Friday Night Australian Racing, 9/2/2016

Plenty of good news from Australia!

  1. The world’s highest rated race mare – WINX – is racing tonight in Sydney Australia at Royal Randwick in race 7A in the  Chelmsford Stakes at 1 mile (post time is 1:50 AM Eastern Saturday morning).  If you don’t want to see it live I am sure it will show up on YouTube in a day or two.  The surface at Royal Randwick is a HEAVY 9, so it might be a challenge for her.
  2.  The people that run the North American Aussie pool are allowing for pick 4 (a.k.a. “the Quaddie”) betting on EVERY track now – the last 4 races.  I will try to take advantage of that tonight by betting a late pick 4 at Moonee Valley, which has a very nice GOOD 4 racing surface.

Bet of the night:  Race 5C Moonee Valley #5 SHEIDEL (9/1 ML)

SHEIDEL had a monster work on August 16th and she is 10-6-2-0 at this unique 1000m (5 furlong) distance.  The main competition is heavy pre-race favorite #8 Heatherly (2/1 ML), who is no slouch.  She has a ton of speed and has a very good record at 1000m (5-3-2-0) and at Moonee Valley (4-3-0-1), which has a tricky layout.

Long shot of the night:  Race 8C Moonee Valley #13 Set Square (25/1 ML)

SET SQUARE has not won for over a year, but sometimes horses in Australia go in and out of form with the seasons.  In her first race off the layoff she only got beat by 3 lengths in a AUD $201,000 Group 2 after (1) being dragged back to last, and (2) sent 8 wide on the turn.  She then she flew home, looking much more impressive than her talented (and uncoupled) entry mate, Jameka.  Tonight Set Square is 25/1 ML and Jameka (who did beat Set Square last out) is only 9/1 ML.  I am going with Set Square.

Complicated Pick 4 play!  Races 6C through 9C at Mooney Valley.

Remember it is only 20 cents per combination to play the Aussie pick 4s!
