The Champagne Stakes and the All Aged Stakes are basically “leftovers” from the Aussie autumn.  They are important but take a back seat to the Golden Slipper and TJ Smith, respectively, in both prestige and purse.  But hey, let’s try to get some winners!

Randwick Race 5B – Saturday 12:50 am EDT: CHAMPAGNE STAKES

PICKS are 8-6-3-1… Fillies have dominated the two year old races all season, and I see no reason for that to change.  #8 Veuvelicious beat colts last out WHILE GIVING THEM WEIGHT, drops 8 pounds for this effort and has daylight wins at 7.5 furlongs and one mile.  Solid pick.  #6 Peggy Jean has a sprinty pedigree and I think she will definitely not improve stretching out to one mile.  Obvious exacta horse.  #3 Bachman needs to improve, but did beat the top pick on April 5th.  #1 Scratch Me Lucky is a plodder/grinder type but seems destined to hit the superfecta somewhere.

Randwick Race 6B – Saturday 1:25 am EDT: ALL AGED STAKES

PICKS are 5-1-2-6…Trying to predict track conditions in Sydney is difficult, as Sydney gets soooo much rain.  The forecast is 80 degrees and cloudy for Saturday, so I am expecting a relatively dry track.

#5 Snitzerland is as tough as they come when the going is fast, and 8/1 on the morning line is enticing.  She despises wet tracks through (look at her last race), so if the rains come, stay away.  #1 Rebel Dane is a classy plodder/grinder, and was exposed quite a bit when he could not run effectively down the straight at Flemington, but he certainly fits here with these.  I won’t fault people for taking the 2/1 odds, but I am concerned he will be 6/5 at post time.  #2 Tiger Tees always puts in his race, and his chances improve greatly if the track is slow or heavy.  #6 Steps In Time is THE SPEED, and figures to be prodded by Snitzerland.  7 furlongs usually is a bridge too far for her, but if early speed is doing well in the other races she’s worth a throw at 12/1.
