Money Management Tips for Playing the Pick-3, Pick-4, Pick-5 Wagers

Every horse player has a budget to use while playing the races, so therefore you need to manage your dollars wisely. Tracks these days offer so many different wagers, so understanding where and how to place them is so important. Race tracks have also got wiser over the years in placing their pick bets in a good order. What do I mean by this? Santa Anita opens with a pick 5 and then a pick 4 in the next race. Turf Paradise goes pick 6 in the last 6, then the pick 5 in the last 5 and so on. This is great for the horse player.

Tips on how to play the sequence “Pick” bets: There are many ways to play these bets but from experience I have found a good way to play them and have proper money management.

-Reduce the number of horses used in the first leg.

-If you are playing Santa Anita and taking five horses in the first leg of the pick 5, that is like
playing the same pick 4 five times. Take a shot in the first leg, if you lose, play the pick 4.

-Use more horses in the later legs.

-You do not want to rely on your entire day in the last leg on one horse.

-When you are still alive in the sequence add a few extra horses that are prices that have a small shot, but do not cost as much to add in the pick 3.

Obviously the races have to set up for you to use less horses early and more late. Here are a few ways to consider playing some sequence bets that line up.

Santa Anita Race#1  Pick 5     1,2/1,2,3/1,2,3,/1,2,3,4/1,2,3,4
Race#2 Pick 4  (assume you lost 1st leg)   1,2,/1,2,3/1,2,3,4/1,2,3,4
(assume you won the 1st leg)  1/1,2,3/1,2,3,4,5/1,2,3,4,5
Race#4 Pick 3  if still alive in all tickets, I would probably pass or play  1,2/1,2/1,2,3,4
(out on everything)  find your best key in the last three races and key it

Here are a few BAD TICKETS I wouldn’t play
Race#1 Pick 5  1,2,3,4,5/1,2,3,4,5/1,2,3/1,2/1
but if there was a huge carryover and the races set up this way go for it.
If I was still alive after the first couple legs I may play a pick 3 like this   1,2/1,2,3/1,2,3,4 as a saver.

Hope I didn’t confuse you but I thought examples were the best way to show it. The worst is to have all your bets in one basket and you miss the last leg and get nothing.

It is all about making a profit at the end of the day and there are many ways to do that, but you need to have money to do that. Play smart and money manage.
