#8 Copper Town is from the Todd Pletcher barn winning 25%. This son of Speightstown has been away from the races for 56 days and drops down in class from the G1 Cigar Mile. The rider and trainer have been 10 for 14 ITM the past two weeks and had a rough trip stepping up in class last out. The drop back down and move to high percentage Javier Castellano should have him up close stalking. #9 Unbridled Juan is a son of Unbridled’s Joy for trainer Jose Corrales. He is  4 for 4 ITM and is looking for 3 in a row. He cuts back from 1 1/8 and his form cycle is top notch. #6 Aztec Sense is a son of Street Sense looking for 9 in a row. Maker wins 24% coming back off this angle and cuts back from the two mile distance. He had a tough trip last out lacking room and just missing at the wire. Today could be payback time. #7 Canessar comes from the Arnaud Delacour barn. He is a stone cold closer and has the services of high percentage Javier Castellano in the saddle. He’s been off 6 months and has a solid work pattern.

She’s been off two months and her dam Pruendezia (IRE) has 6 starters, 4 winners, 2 stakes winners, and 4 turf winners to her credit. She has a strong late kick. #5 Next Shares from the Richard Baltas barn has Tyler Gaffalione in the driver’s seat. This gelding makes his 2nd start after winning the G2 San Gabriel and is 1 for 1 at GP. He adds distance and Gaffalione is winning at 17% on the sod. #2 Yoshida hails from the Bill Mott barn where he’s been off for two months since the BC Classic. He was 4th and six wide and just got beat at the wire. He’s a solid closer and will be rolling late in the lane.

He is more versatile than his races show on paper and Javier Castellano in the saddle is a plus. They ship in from CD and Mike McCarthy wins 25% on the ship. Very dangerous runner. #8 Gunnevera is a stone cold closer from the Antonio Sano barn. He is 8 for 9 ITM at GP and came flying late in the BC Classic. He enters off a two month layoff and look for him to come calling late in the lane under Irad Ortiz.

Aqueduct

Race #4 – The G2 Demoiselle – 1 1/8 – 1:02 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Molto Bella / #1 – Enliven / #6 – Afleet Destiny

#7 Molto Bella is a daughter of Violence for the Ian Wilkes barn. Javier Castellano has the call and she can sport a good turn of early foot. Two back she went from a sprint to a one turn mile at CD in the Rags to Riches four wide gaining on the winner. She should benefit from the high percentage Castellano 25% at Aqueduct and be much closer to the action. 2nd route races yield a 21% win clip from the Wilkes barn. #1 Enliven comes from the Kiaran McLaughlin stable and is a stone cold closer. She ran a very game 3rd in the G3 Tempted and gets the services of Jersey Joe Bravo. The rail is winning 28% and she’ll come calling late in the lane. #6 Afleet Destiny comes off a quick closing effort at Parx for Uriah St. Lewis with strong closing rider Irad Ortiz in the irons. She’s been knocking on the door and received her diploma last out on the step up in class.

Race #8 – The G2 Remsen – 1 1/8 – 3:12 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Network Effect / #6 – Maximus Mischief / #3 -Bourbon War

#5 Network Effect is a solid closer in a race filled with speed. He hails from the Chad Brown barn with Javier Castellano in the driver’s seat. He had a very nice maiden break at Saratoga and came rolling 6 wide last out. He should relish the added distance and Brown wins 36% going second time at the route distance. #6 Maximus Mischief is a speedy colt who is seeking his third straight win coming in from Parx. Frankie Pennington comes in for the ride and will be sending this son of Into MIschief right to the lead. He has a bullet work on 11/16 at Parx and looks ready for the next step. #3 Bourbon War comes from the Mark Hennig barn with Irad Ortiz in the irons. He has a win at the “Big A” and appears to be a perfect stalking sort. Ortiz is an excellent closing rider and this son of Tapit may get right in the game at the top of the stretch.

Race #9 – The G1 Cigar Mile – 1 mile – 3:45 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #3 – Sunny Ridge / #8 – Pattern Recognition / #1 – Mendelssohn

#3 Sunny Ridge is a son of Holy Bull for the Jason Servis barn. Irad Ortiz has the call and they team up to win 34%. He exits the G2 Kelso going a mile and should enjoy the distance where he is 5 for 5 ITM. Manny Franco to Ortiz, and a solid stalker in the field. I’m looking for a big effort getting the job done around the far turn. #8 Pattern Recognition comes in off a win in the G2 Kelso and should be a major pace player for the Chad Brown barn. He is 2 for 2 at Aqueduct and looks for three in a row. I think Jose Ortiz will send and he’s one of the best speed riders in the nation. #1 Mendelssohn is a son of Scat Daddy for Aidan O’Brien with Ryan Moore in the saddle. He’ll show good speed, and Moore is always dangerous anytime he takes a mount. He’s cutting back from a mile and a quarter and may improve at the shorter distance.

Belmont

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Mendelssohn / #7 – Firenze Fire / #3 – Rugbyman

Race #6 – G3 Dwyer – 1 mile – 4:36 pm EDT

#6 Mendelssohn is a son of Scat Daddy looking to get back on track in a big way. He’s looking to rebound off a dismal Kentucky Derby effort, and Aidan O’Brien retains the services of nine time Breeders’ Cup winning rider Ryan Moore. I’ll toss out the Derby for a bevy of reasons, and most importantly he caught a monster by the name of Justify. He broke his maiden in Ireland going a mile and has faced every possible surface. He gets 2nd Lasix and should make a big move getting back on track.

#7 Firenze Fire looks to bounce back from the Derby blues as well. Irad Ortiz in the saddle for Jason Servis and won the G1 Champagne last year going a mile. He likes the distance and is 2 for 3 ITM going this far, and we can expect a big closing move fresh off a 2 month layoff.

#3 Rugbyman has Jose Ortiz for Graham Motion in the driver’s seat. A lightly raced colt who broke his maiden by 14 over the track. He looked super running a closing effort in the Easy Goer and adds blinkers today.

Race #8 – G1 Belmont Oaks – 1 1/4 on the turf – 5:46 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 Toinette / #10 Mighty Scarlett / #8 Thewayiam

#5 Toinette has Flavien Prat in the saddle for Neil Drysdale. Prat wins 23% on the turf and she’s a perfect 3 for 3 on the sod. She is a daughter of Scat Daddy and will come calling late in the lane. She’s been off for two months and has four works over the Belmont turf around the dogs. Look for a mighty run against a talented field.

#10 Mighty Scarlett comes to post for Chad Brown with Jose Ortiz in the irons. She’s a daughter of Scat Daddy and is 3 for 3 ITM on the green. She had a building block effort in the G3 Wonder Again, and Ortiz wins 19% over the greensward. When he rides for Chad Brown they win 21% and this lightly raced filly is ready to start her summer campaign.

#8 Thewayiam goes to post for trainer Graham Motion with John Velasquez in the driver’s seat. She’s 8 for 10 ITM on the grass and exits a fast closing effort in the Penn Oaks getting beat as the chalk. Look for a rebound effort worthy of sealing the deal as she’ll come rolling in the final quarter mile under Johnny V.

Race #10 – The G1 Belmont Derby – 1 1/4 on the turf – 6:50 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 Catholic Boy / #8 Hawkish / #4 Hunting Horn

#7 Catholic Boy has Javier Castellano in the saddle aboard this son of More than Ready. He is 3 for 4 ITM on the grass and locked horns with some of the big boys. Trainer Jonathon Thomas wins 38% with graded stakes and comes in 2nd off a layoff. He won at first asking off a 3 month layoff and is looking for continued improvement rolling late in the lane.

#8 Hawkish is a son of Artie Schiller who won the G2 Penn Mile. He begins his summer campaign with Manny Franco in the saddle for James Toner. He owns a sharp work around the dogs over the Belmont weeds. Franco will uncork a rally when he gives the cue.

#4 Hunting Horn has Ryan Moore in irons for Aidan O’Brien. They bring a son of Camelot to post who won the Group 3 Hampton Court at Royal Ascot. He gets first Lasix and Ryan Moore comes to the big city to take down a nice score with a repeat effort.

His numbers are strong and exits off a sparkling work at CD. I’m thinking there may some distance questions down the road but the 1 1/16 in definitely in his scope. #1 – Ten City =Jack Gilligan aboard for Kenny McPeek and the trainer was quoted as saying “this may be one of the most talented runners he has trained.” – His last effort at Ellis was surprising as a beaten chalk who goes from 7f to 1 1/16. Should get a good stalking trip close to the rail. #7 – Flameaway = Julien Leparoux in the irons for Mark Casse. The barn has faced some tough Euro-turf runners. This son of Scat Daddy is 2/2, and the distance should not be a problem. I went back and watched his last replay and it may be better than the results may tell. I like his chances today.

The race goes through this filly if you want the winner. #5 – Starship Jubilee = 2nd off the layoff move and cuts back in distance from 1 3/8. BetPTC.com Selections – #6 – Deauville / #8 – Mondialiste / #1 – World Appeal

#6 – Deauville = Jamie Spencer for Aidan O’Brien. They bring a son of Galileo exiting the Arlington Million as a beaten favorite. Spencer takes over for Ryan Moore and they cut back from 1 1/4 – 1 mile and a shot at a qualifying spot for the Breeders’ Cup. He’s run well on this side of the pond and lesser distance could play into his plans. #8 – Mondialiste = Jose Ortiz in the irons for David O’Meara. 1/1 at Woodbine and the Lasix sure helped his causes in the past. He is 9/16 ITM at the distance and been off since York in late August. #1 – World Appeal = John Velasquez for Mark Casse and exits a strong win in the G1 FourStarDave. Just follow them back to the races next time out and they may give you a little payback for a lackluster effort. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!
