He has plenty of early speed and Graham returns off a win in the saddle a month ago. #4 Hot Springs is a son of Uncle Mo for Steve Asmussen and Ricardo Santana in the driver’s seat. He is 3rd off the layoff and 4 for 5 with wins at CD. Toss out the last race and you have a solid stalker reuniting with the barn rider.

Race#7 – The G2 Fleur de Lis – 1 1/8 – 9:12 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #3 – Elate / #2 – She’s a Julie / #5 – Blue Prize

#3 Elate hails from the Bill Mott barn with Jose Ortiz in the irons. She’s been off for two months and exits the G1 Apple Blossom. She drops a notch in class and gets added distance. Elate should lay right off the pace and wait for the command of Ortiz to answer the question. #2 She’s a Julie comes in for trainer Steve Asmussen with Ricardo Santana in the saddle. She is 4 for 5 ITM at CD and makes her 2nd off the shelf move effort. This gal will be close to the pace and make a tactical move on the turn. #5 Blue Prize is a daughter of Pure Prize who is 6 for 7 ITM at CD. This is her 2nd start of 2019 and was the beaten chalk in the G1 La Troienne. She loves the oval and gets a top rider switch.

Race #8 – The G2 Stephen Foster – 1 1/8 – 9:47 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Gift Box / #4 – Seeking the Soul / #12 – Yoshida

#6 Gift Box is a son of Twirling Candy for trainer John Sadler and Joel Rosario. 2nd start off the layoff and was the beaten chalk in the G1 Gold Cup at SA. He cuts back in distance and been working lights out in the morning. He should get a perfect stalking trip under Rosario and battle down the lane. #4 Seeking the Soul hails from the barn of Dallas Stewart with John Velasquez in the irons. 3rd off the layoff and the barn wins 33% on this move. He is a stone cold closer who is 9 for 11 ITM at CD and owns a bullet coming into the race. #12 Yoshida comes in for Bill Mott with Jose Ortiz in the driver’s seat. He’s been off for two months since the Dubai World Cup. He cuts back in distance and has faced some of the best in the world. Race #4 – The $75,000 Smooth Air – 1 mile – 1:16 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Garter and Tie /#2 – Maddy’s Last Dance / #7 – Souper Jackpot

#5 Garter and Tie was a beaten chalk last out and turns back in distance for Ralph Nicks and Tyler Gaffalione. He is a solid closer and looks in top order with some sharp morning works. Look for Gaffalione to come rolling late in the lane. #2 Maddy’s Last Dance is 2 for 2 at GP ITM and has the services of high percentage rider Luis Saez. He’s on the stretch out in distance and should be a factor in the early fractions. #7 Souper Jackpot is a speedy son of Ghostzapper with Irad Ortiz in the irons. He’s coming in off a fresh maiden break at CD and will be a speed player in this one turn mile. That was a very game effort last out and fought every step of the way. Very nice morning works show promise.

Race#5 – The $75,000 Pulpit – 1 mile on the turf – 1:46 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2 – Henley’s Joy / #1 – Life Mission / #9 – Louder Than Bombs

#2 Henley’s Joy is a son of Kitten’s Joy from the Mike Maker barn. Tyler Gaffalione in the irons and they exit the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf finishing a dismal 13th. It could have been the track condition or just a cut above his reach for now. He has looked very sharp on the turf and finished a brilliant 2nd in the G3 Bourbon at Keeneland. He takes a huge drop in class and this may be his coming out party for big things in 2019. #1 Life Mission is son of Noble Mission for trainer Ben Colebrook. He is 4 for 5 ITM on the green and yet to find the winner’s circle. He’s been on some soft courses and might relish a tighter turf. Luis Saez in the saddle and he scores 15% riding on the turf. Ever since shipping in from Ireland he’s looked better with each start. #9 Louder Than Bombs returns to the turf and is 2 for 3 with wins on the greensward. Javier Castellano has the call for David Fawkes and they have been working a regular clip in the morning with a sharp work to prepare. Castellano wins 20% with turf runners and he will come running down the pace in mid stretch.

Race #6 – The $75,000 Wait a While – 1 mile on the turf – 2:16 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Queen Medb / #4 – A Bit Special / #9 – Red Hot Dame

#1 Queen Medb is a daughter of Kodiac shipping over from Ireland for the Chad Brown barn. He wins 23% getting first Lasix and 30% on the stretch out in distance. Javier Castellano aboard and they win 35% as team. She draws the rail and has the typical look of a Brown runner who could score at first asking in the states. #4 A Bit Special looks to relish the turf going 3 for 3 ITM. Patrick Biancone is the conditioner and is always dangerous with his turf runners. She’s been off for two months and Romero Maragh has been aboard all three times. I like her chances to come calling late to storm past in the stretch. #9 Red Hot Dame is a daughter of Violence who has sprinted her last two efforts. Todd Pletcher and John Velasquez team up and the added distance may fit her well. Pletcher wins 27% going a route for the first time and she can easily upset the apple cart.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 7/30/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The prior weekend was filled with ups and downs. On the left coast Arrogate proved that even Superman has kryptonite, and Abel Tasman gave us a glimpse of old time race riding. – Bob Baffert loves to compete, and the weekend showed the highs and lows of Thoroughbred racing. The racing world was all eyes and could feel the pressure of the world on his shoulders. – Here are some runners who you need to keep on your radar screen. They may have had a bad trip or a good excuse. Be sure to follow them back the next time they hit the track. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!

Saratoga

7/22/17

Race #7 – AOC $62,500 – 5 1/2f on the turf – #10 – Vici

Vici = Irad Ortiz for Ben Colebrook as they brought a son of War Front to post. He made a flying move going 6f on the sod getting beat at the wire. They dropped him back to 5 1/2f on the weeds and he was 3/3 ITM going this distance. He came into the race with a bullet work at Keeneland and tipped off going four wide to get rolling. The four wide trip became 7 wide and was beaten by a head in a photo by his ultra talented brother Jose. This wasn’t the first Ortiz brother exacta, and it surely won’t be the last. But this guy will come guns blazing next out at the Spa.

Race #9 – The G3 Sanford – 6f on the main – #4 – Free Drop Billy

Free Drop Billy = Robby Albarado in the saddle for Dale Romans. This son of Union Rags was (15-1) on the morning line and was sent off (3-1). – He was an impressive winner at first asking at CD and had a blistering work over the deep Louisville track two works back in 1:00.03 1/32 for the day and distance. The public hammered him at the windows and so did Admiral Jimmy leaving the starting gate. Once he got rolling he went 4 wide chasing down the leader only to settle for the place spot. – Kentucky runners are doing well at Saratoga and you can’t keep Romans off your ticket if you want to cash it right after the race.

Saratoga

7/23/17

Race #7 – Claiming – 6f on the main – #6 – Nisha

Nisha = Irad Ortiz in the irons and was shooting for three-in-a-row. He stumbled badly at the start and recovered his action only to slam into Courtmewithcarats. After that little smash-up, he was pinched back and made a stout five wide move to be third. He’ll come back nicely and probably it will be on the Saratoga lawn.

Race #11 – Mdn Claiming – 1 mile on the turf – #11 – Prognostication

Prognostication = Jose Ortiz for Chad Brown and is a good stalker. Ortiz sensed average fractions and made a quick move and jumped into 2nd keeping an eye on the leader. He was a beaten chalk last out and was sent off the odds-on choice today as well. – He couldn’t have looked any better with the talented Ortiz aboard but got leg weary down the lane getting the show dough. Next out he’ll be a major player.

Belterra Park

7/23/17

Race #8 – Claiming – 6f on the main – #4 – Super Franchise

Super Franchise = Gabriel Lagunes for Webster Rosello (28%). He was dropping down from condition $10,000 to condition $7,500. – He hopped at the start and was off poorly. Lagunes had him in high gear and put together a late rally that really caught my eye as he finished a solid third.

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Always Dreaming  / #2 – Cloud Computing / #4 – Pavel

Always Dreaming = John Velasquez aboard for Todd Pletcher with a son of Bodemeister. He’s been off since the Preakness and you might want to toss that race out. He should improve greatly cutting back 1 3/16 – 1 1/8 and the Derby winner looks to kick the second half of the season in fine fashion. The rail is winning at (21%) and the works leading up show readiness to make it back to the races.  Cloud Computing = Closer for the Chad Brown barn. The good news is Javier Castellano stays aboard off the Preakness win. He’s faced some of the best 3-yr-olds of the year and hopes for some pace to set him up. Pavel = Doug O’Neill and Mario Gutierrez bringing a mdn winning son of Creative Cause. He was pretty impressive but this is a whole new level. O’Neill wouldn’t be coming this way if he didn’t think there was a chance for him to fit into the race.

Roy H = Paco Lopez in the saddle for Peter Miller and has been off for two months winning the G2 True North at Belmont. Blistering works and seeking for his 4th in-a-row coming off the shelf.
