#17 Roadster is one of three runners for the Bob Baffert camp. He is a son of Quality Road and Florent Geroux is in the saddle. This is his 3rd start off the layoff, lightly raced, and if you watched the G1 Santa Anita Derby, you’ll see an incredible effort. He settled in, dropped back and made an explosive move around the bend. Geroux is an excellent reinsman and I’m looking for him to wear the roses this year. #16 Game Winner is a son of Candy Ride for trainer Bob Baffert. 1 for 1 at CD and 3rd off the layoff for this colt. Since winning the B/C Juvenile last year he owns a pair of 2nd place efforts in the G2 Rebel and G1 Santa Anita Derby. He’s a game runner and does very little wrong. I’m looking for a perfect stalking trip to make it a Baffert exacta. #6 Vekoma is a son of Candy Ride for trainer George Weaver. Javier Castellano in driver’s seat, and this guy has a wicked turn of foot. He should stalk just off the pace and make a move around the far turn. BetPTC.com Selections / #2 – Vekoma / #8 – Win Win Win / #11 – So Alive

#2 Vekoma exits the G2 Fountain of Youth off a less than ideal trip. They switch riders from Manny Franco to Javier Castellano and he is the new ‘money man.’ 2nd time Lasix for this son of Candy Ride for George Weaver and he should get a perfect stalking trip. He is lightly raced and deserves serious consideration before making a wager. The barn wins 25% on the medication move and the rider change is a positive sign. #8 Win Win Win is a son of Hat Trick for the Mike Trombetta barn. He was a beaten favorite in the Tampa Bay Derby rolling 5 wide and shows a red hot work. Irad Ortiz back in the saddle and that moves his chances up greatly. #11 So Alive is a son of Super Saver and is a bit of an outside shooter. He is lightly raced and has the services of Luis Saez in the saddle. He can easily pick up his head and come rolling for minor awards today.

Santa Anita

Race #8 – The G1 Santa Anita Derby – 1 1/8 – 6:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Game Winner / #5 – Instagrand / #3 – Nolo Contesto

#6 Game Winner is a monster son of Candy Ride. Joel Rosario has the call for Bob Baffert and they were getting to them late in the G2 Rebel getting beat a dirty nose. Overall, he didn’t have to win the race and use all his gas, but he looked terrific just picking them up late in the lane. I think he is a good looking colt and it looks like Team Baffert is loaded again. His race to lose at Santa Anita. #5 Instagrand is a speedy son of Into Mischief and Flavien Prat will be calling the shots. He is lightly raced and owns some sparkling works at Los Al in preparation for this big race. If he gets loose and can go the distance he may play a perfect role of the spoiler. #3 Nolo Contesto is a perfect stalker who had an eventful trip last out. He’s gonna need his A game against this compact field as Joe Talamo picks up the action in the saddle. The added ground won’t hurt and Talamo has sprung his fair share of upsets.

He has a solid stalking profile and good works at FG to show his readiness to fire. #4 Noble Indy has Johnny V and Pletcher teaming up and making his 2nd start of the year. He has faced some big names from last year and has some great works at Palm Beach. John Velasquez in the irons and his works are sparkling coming into the race. A perfect stalker who can light up the tote board as War of Will is going to take a big chunk of the money. #6 War of Will is looking for his 4th straight win. Tyler Gaffalione in the saddle for Mark Casse and they look to have a fine runner. But I’m looking down the road a bit when they hit Louisville on Derby day. This son of War Front has gotten better with every start since coming off the turf. Looking for a better price is no sin and they’ll want to keep him out of trouble as much as possible. If he has his own way he’ll be tough to handle. #11 Hog Creek Hustle comes from the Vickie Foley barn and picks up a new rider in Miguel Mena. He has a strong late kick and when he’s ready he’ll come rolling. Take a look at the 59.3 5f work which was 2 outta 53 for the distance and the day. I think he can get a big piece of the pie if he sticks to his guns and keeps his mind on business.

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Qurbaan / #9 – Projected / #6 – Bricks and Mortar

#1 Qurbaan comes to post for Kiaran McLaughlin. Luis Saez in the irons and at the time of this entry was seeking his 2,000th career win. He ran a solid 3rd at Keeneland in the G1 Shadwell Mile facing Next Shares who ran last weekend in the Breeders’ Cup. Since shipping in from France and getting Lasix he has the look of a dangerous runner. #9 Projected is a son of Showcasing for the Chad Brown barn. Irad Ortiz in the saddle, and ships in from Laurel off a G2 event as a beaten favorite. The drop in class should help greatly and Ortiz loves to finish strong down the lane. He faced Qurbaan and looks to square the record today. #6 Bricks and Mortar comes in for the Chad Brown barn off a one year layoff. Brown wins 29% with well rested runners and this son of Giant’s Causeway was facing graded company before his layoff. He is bred to relish the greensward and may win first off the bench at a square price.
