Irad Ortiz in the saddle, and ships in from Laurel off a G2 event as a beaten favorite. The drop in class should help greatly and Ortiz loves to finish strong down the lane. He faced Qurbaan and looks to square the record today. #6 Bricks and Mortar comes in for the Chad Brown barn off a one year layoff. Brown wins 29% with well rested runners and this son of Giant’s Causeway was facing graded company before his layoff. He is bred to relish the greensward and may win first off the bench at a square price.

The 35th edition of the Breeders’ Cup will take place this Friday and Saturday. There are fourteen Breeders’ Cup races with the best runners in the world converging on Louisville, Kentucky. We will cover races 8-11 which make up the $3 million dollar guaranteed late pick-four.

Churchill Downs

Race #8 – The Breeders’ Cup Mile – 1 mile on turf – 3:36 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Expert Eye / #5 – Oscar Performance / #2 – Next Shares

#7 Expert Eye is the son of Acclamation for Sir Michael Stoute. He gets first Lasix and has been a little short of getting the mile distance. Europeans have a way of getting added distance on these days and has the services of Frankie Dettori in irons. The 55 days away from the races may have him in top order and the connections like their chances. #5 Oscar Performance is a son of Kittens’ Joy for trainer Brian Lynch with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. He is a perfect 3 for 3 at the distance and exits the G1 Woodbine Mile which has served as a great prep for this affair. Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace and should try and wire the field. #2 Next Shares is a son of Archarcharch and exits the G1 Shadwell Mile at Keeneland. Also a key prep for this race and 6 for 9 ITM going the distance. Respected rider Tyler Gafflione in the saddle and trainer Richard Baltas wins 17% on the turf. This closer will come calling late.

Race #9 – The Breeders’ Cup Distaff – 1 1/8 – 4:16 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #11 – Monomoy Girl / #2 – Abel Tasman / #10 – Blue Prize

#11 Monomoy Girl is a daughter of Tapizar for trainer Brad Cox. She is 3 for 3 ITM at Churchill and was a beaten favorite in the G1 Cotillion at Parx.  She won and was disqualified but her works are showing readiness to roll. Florent Geroux in the irons and she is 2 for 2 at the distance. If she runs back to the G1 CCA Oaks she’s gonna be tough to handle. #2 Abel Tasman comes to post for Bob Baffert and Mike Smith in the saddle. Toss out the last race where she bobbled and came off slow. According to Baffert she spiked a fever and wasn’t feeling herself. 3rd start off the layoff, solid works and 4 for 4 ITM at the distance makes her a player. #10 Blue Prize is a daughter of Pure Prize for Ignacio Correas. “Jersey” Joe Bravo in the saddle and she is 5 for 5 ITM at CD. That was a nice win in the G1 Spinster and Correas is winning 44% looking for 4-in-a-row.

Race #10 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf – 1 1/2 on the turf – 4:56 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #12 – Waldgeist / #2 – Enable / #1 – Talismanic

#12 Waldgeist is a son of Galileo for the Andre Fabre yard. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a game 2nd in the Gr1 Arc de Triomphe. He looks to be sitting on a huge effort and the top shelf connections have been speaking good things all week. #2 Enable is an ultra talented filly for trainer John Gosden. She has rolled off eight straight wins and looks to be the one to beat. Frankie Dettori is the reinsman and she’s been training well at Churchill Downs applying the final touches. She is 3 for 3 at the distance and her only knock is that Arc winners are 0 for 8 winning this event. #1 Talismanic exits a key race in the Gr1 Arc and won this event last year paying a handsome price. Is a repeat in the cards? He has excellent breeding and will come calling late in the lane.

Race #11 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic – 1 1/4 – 5:44 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2- Thunder Snow / #14 – Accelerate / #6 – McKinzie

#2 Thunder Snow has been looking good in the morning works over the CD oval. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a huge effort in the G1 Jockey Gold Cup getting bested by a neck at the wire. He is 3 for 4 ITM going 1 1/4 and should be in mid pack poised to pounce. #14 Accelerate is looking to go four in a row for trainer John Sadler. Joel Rosario is the reinsman and has been aboard his last two impressive wins. He loves the distance going 4 for 4 and won the G1 Pacific Classic by 12 lengths. Loves the distance, the rider fits like a glove, and he’s gonna be tough down the lane. #6 McKinzie is a son of Street Sense who won the Kentucky Derby. Bob Baffert and Mike Smith team up and they do every good work when the money is on the line. Should be forwardly placed with a rider who is an excellent judge of pace. Can be a major player today.
