She’s a strong closer exiting the G3 Santa Ana off a win and 8 for 11 ITM going the distance and two for three ITM at Santa Anita. #6 Steak of Luck cuts back in distance from the G3 Santa Ana with Mike Smith in the saddle. She’s a solid closer and a good candidate to complete your exotics.

Rosario is winning 25% at the meet and 56% when he teams up with Sadler. #4 Lone Sailor hails from the Thom Amoss barn with Flavien Prat in the saddle. He just got beat a neck in the G2 Oaklawn Handicap and is a real gamer. He’s a long range closer working well in the morning.  #1 Blitzkrieg comes from the Doug O’Neill barn. Drayden Van Dyke in the irons and just missed as a beaten favorite in the G1 Kilroe Mile. He is two for two ITM at SA and loves the mile distance as a stout closer. #4 River Boyne is a son of Dandy Man for Jeff Mullins. Flavien Prat in the driver’s seat and 3rd off the layoff. Belmont Race #4 – The $100,000 Awad – 1 mile on the turf – 2:22 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #9 – Law and Order / #6 – Empire of War / #4 – Absolved

#9 Law and Order is a son of Violence shipping in from Laurel Park. Fergal Lynch is the pilot and exits off a strong closing win in the Laurel Futurity going 6f on the turf. He gets added distance and Lynch wins 17% on the turf. Trainer Louis Linder wins 19% on the year and 13% with his shippers. He should be closing from off the pace but much closer than last out. #6 Empire of War is a speedy colt from the Todd Pletcher barn who just broke his maiden going this far last out. Manny Franco is the reinsman and went wire to wire from the #11 post last out. He has solid morning works and last out showed promise going long. If left alone on the front end could be very dangerous. #4 Absolved is a son of Blame who should get a perfect mid pack stalking trip. Trainer Claudio Gonzalez wins 28% on the year and brings in Kevin Gomez for the call. This is his 3rd off the layoff move and sports a bullet work over the Belmont oval in preparation. His dam Berry Blessed has 9 starters, 7 winners, and 4 turf winners to her credit.

Race #9 – The G3 Bold Ruler – 7f – 5:08 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Delta Prince / #5 – Petrov / #4 – Coal Front

#6 Delta Prince makes the turf to dirt switch for James Jerkins with Irad Ortiz in the irons. A beaten favorite in the G1 Woodbine Mile. Cutting back to 7f may be an ask for this solid closer, but Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace. His last three works are super and if they are any indication we may be seeing a big effort in here. #5 Petrov is a solid son of Flatter for trainer Ron Moquette. He ships back from Remington Park as a beaten chalk and the barn comes back to score 22% on this move. He should be a mid pack stalker and with that sparkling bullet work, he is bound to take action at the windows. #4 Coal Front has been off for a year from the races. He has shown a great deal of speed for trainer Todd Pletcher who wins 31% with long layoffs. This ridgling is 4 for 5 ITM lifetime with wins and Pletcher can come right off the bench and fire.

Keeneland

Race #9 – The G2 Fayette – 1 1/8 on the dirt – 5:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Leofric / #6 – Hofburg / #1-Prime Attraction

#5 Leofric is a son of Candy Ride who has been away from the races for 56 days for trainer Brad Cox.  Florent Geroux in the saddle and is 2 for 2 with wins. He shows a good work pattern and Cox wins 28% with layoff runners coming back to the races. He exits the G1 Woodward facing Yoshida who was ultra tough that day. He should be forwardly placed and give a great account of himself today. #6 Hofburg exits the G1 Pennsylvania Derby and has faced some of the toughest runners of the year. This son of Tapit has one bad race to his credit and that was the Kentucky Derby. He is a stone cold closer, and Jose Ortiz aboard for trainer Bill Mott do very good work together. #1 Prime Attraction has Kent Desormeaux in the irons for James Cassidy. A mid pack stalker has a dangerous look as he can jump up at any time and run a big effort. He’s always knocking on the door and drawing the rail may be a bonus for Kent D saving all the ground.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 4/4/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

As we close in on 33 days to the first Saturday in May, I’m really leaning toward a price. I’m not sure which one yet, but there is still plenty of time to do some value shopping. As the next couple of weekends promise to be more than super, be sure to take it all in before declaring your Derby runner. Time is on our side as we get ready to watch and wager on the (G-1) Santa Anita Derby, (G-2) Bluegrass Stakes and (G-2) Wood Memorial. There is still time to build your bankroll, and here are some runners that didn’t give a top-notch effort or had a good excuse. You’ll want to follow them right back as a big effort may be just around the corner. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Gulfstream Park

4/1/17

Race #2 – #11 – Monterey Marianne – 7 1/2f on the turf

Paco Lopez had the call for Jane Cibelli. The filly was coming off a 7 month layoff from Monmouth and working a regular clip at Palm Meadows. She was a handful this day tugging at the rider begging to takeoff and had to check and be restrained. Maybe she’s feeling just fine but needed one to work out the bugs. – I’m watching for her next effort at a price.

Race #4 – #2 – Delta Prince – 1 mile on the turf

Jose Ortiz had the call for James Jerkins and this son of Street Cry was a perfect 2/2 over the sod. His 2nd effort of 2017 was exiting off a win and looked strong around the far turn as Ortiz guided him into a clear lane. He was out-kicked by eventual winner All Included who looked super as the odds-on favorite. Delta Prince may have needed a race just like this to get the competitive juices rolling, and I think we’ll see big things from this guy.

Race #8 -#9 Taperge – 1 mile on the turf

Javier Castellano in the saddle for Chad Brown always has to be respected. This daughter of Tapit flashed a good sign of things to come. Brown is winning at a white-hot (24%) and this was her third start in 2017. She got motoring and looked to have a dangerous turn of foot. This was a step up in class and I think she’ll grow into herself nicely.

Race #14 – The Florida Derby – #11 -Gunnevera – 1 1/8

Javier Castellano in the driver’s seat for Antonio Sano and they broke from the outside post. This son of Dialed In was ready to give maximum effort and had to be restrained, and then urged to move about the 3/8th’s pole. He never found that comfortable stride, and I’m not tossing out the “Gun” for one average effort. No matter where he lands he’ll be a nice runner down the road.

Fair Grounds

4/1/17

Race #9 – The Mervin Muniz -#10 -Oscar Nominated – 1 1/8 on the turf

Florent Geroux in the saddle for Mike Maker.  This son of Kitten’s Joy came in 3/3 ITM and loves the “Big Easy.” – He was a beaten chalk last time out and comes back to win (27%) next up. He was 3-4 wide on both turns and still managed a strong effort.

Race #11 – The Louisiana Derby – #1 – Patch – 1 1/8 on the main

Take nothing away from the impressive victory of Girvin. He did everything great and did not disappoint the faithful. – Patch was handled by Tyler Gafflione for Todd Pletcher and this was his third start in 2017 with no starts in his two-year-old season. – He bumped his rival and had to gather his composure quickly. After getting it all together he spun three-wide and made a game chasing effort. – Not sure where he’ll end up when the smoke clears, but he’ll get better like a fine wine.

Aqueduct

11/12/16

Race #2 – #1A – Data Driven – 1 mile on the dirt

Angel Arroyo for David Jacobson and their colt stumbled badly leaving the starting gate. He was well supported at the windows, and next time should have a winner’s circle photo in his future

Race  #6 – #2 -Delta Prince – 1 mile on the dirt

Joel Rosario in the saddle for James Jerkins and they were pin-balled around leaving the starting gate.  He never really settle din to find his comfortable stride and was a beaten favorite on this day.

Churchill Downs

11/12/16

Race  #3 – #6 – Going Strong – 1 1/16 on the dirt

Corey Lanerie settle his colt out nicely and tracked from the back of the pack. Once he was given the cue, he picked up the bit in a big way rallying on to be a solid 2nd this day. This was a very nice effort to build on for the future.

Race#8 – #8 – Petov – 6f on the dirt

Jack Gilligan for Ron Moquette and they sat just off the speed and and pounced at the top of the lane. He was an impressive winner on this day and could be ripe for a playback at a solid price moving up the ladder.

Del Mar

11/12/16

Race #3 – #1 – Mopotism – 6f on the dirt

Fernando Perez in the irons for Doug O’Neill and this filly by Broken Vow  was in tight leaving the starting gate. She settled down the backstretch and rallied on for a very game second place finish.

Churchill Downs

11/13/16

Race  #1 – #7 – Barry Swings – 6f

Chris Landeros had this son of Harlan’s Holiday in the cat bird set and got rolling late a round the far turn. He needed about 50 feet more and was lights out for the win. He’ll benefit greatly from this race and be a tough customer next time out.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 10/3/16

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

Last week the weather was hot and humid, and this weekend has fall is in full-effect. This is an incredible time of year to make a trek to your favorite oval. You’ll experience the sights and sounds only autumn can provide and the horses seem to relish the cooler less humid temperatures. Make it a plan to get out and see some live races as the foliage changes and the cool crisp air has you enjoying the day. – In the meantime, you may want to keep an eye out for these runners. Some will make a return right back, and a few make lock it up until Breeders’ Cup. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com

Belmont Park

10/1/16

Race #3 – #4 – Filet of Sole – 7f

Javier Castellano’s mount veered in at the start and he corrected his mount immediately. Advanced nicely splitting runners and floated three-wide on the far turn. – He gave a good account of himself this race and should benefit next out.

Race #6 – #4 – Flintshire – 1 1/2 on the turf

The yielding turf and all day rain may not have been to his liking as he settled behind the speed and moved three wide to finish up second. The fractions were slow and this race may have been used as a good teaching moment. – According to Chad Brown all systems are go for the Breeders’ Cup and I think we’ll see his best on display.

Race #9 – #7 – Stallwalkin’ Dude – 6f

Irad Ortiz had the Jacobson trainee in mid-pack stalking mode and angled out going five wide at the 1/4 pole. – He took over the lead very briefly and was forced to settle for second money getting bested in the final 1/8th.

Belmont

10/2/16

Race #1 – #2 – Yorkiepoo Princess – 1 mile on the dirt

Irad Ortiz sent his filly wire-to-wire and won easily for a race that was originally scheduled for the turf. – Keep her on your MTO runners to watch, or who knows ? With a quick turn of foot like she possessed, this gal can turn out the lights pretty quick.

Race #4 – #1 – Delta Prince – 6 1/2f

First time starter for James Jerkins and was bumped around quite a bit leaving the starting gate. She never looked settled during the race and should benefit greatly from this initial trip over the track.

Race #5 – #2 – Coasted / #6 – New Money Honey – 1 1/16 on the turf

Jose Lezcano did everything on cue and was forced to wait for a gap at the top of the lane. She was on-hold for what seemed like an eternity and was overtaken by New Money Honey who got the jump and had good momentum. Coasted finished an easy third this day and both runners need to kept on your list from this race.
