#7 Mitchell Road is a daughter of English Channel for Bill Mott and Joel Rosario in the saddle. She’s been off 56 days and exits the G1 Diana facing Sistercharlie. She cuts back in distance shipping in from Saratoga with some morning works to have her ready. Rosario will have her close to the pace as she runs extremely well coming off a layoff. #3 Kallio is a daughter of Scat Daddy with Tyler Gaffalione in the driver’s seat. She is 1 for 1 over the course and won in the shadow of the wire last out. Her dam Smokey Diplomacy has 7 starters, 6 winners, and 4 turf winners to her credit. #2 Simply Breathless comes in for Neil Drysdale and Florent Geroux. This daughter of Bated Breath (GB) has a solid late kick and exits Arlington off a beaten favorite effort. The barn wins 22% getting payback and Geroux loves the greensward winning 20%.

She won the Smart N Fancy last out and comes calling late in the lane for Rosario who wins 20% with closers. #7 Morticia is 3rd off the layoff for Rusty Arnold with Tyler Gaffalione in the driver’s seat. Churchill Downs

9/16/17

Race #10 – The G3 Iroquois – 1 1/16 – 5:20 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #2 – Hollywood Star / #1 – Ten City / #7 – Flameaway

#2 – Hollywood Star = Robby Albarado in the saddle for Dale Romans. 2-yr-old son of Malibu Moon and won his Mdn start at CD and came back to run a game effort in the G2 Saratoga Special. His numbers are strong and exits off a sparkling work at CD. I’m thinking there may some distance questions down the road but the 1 1/16 in definitely in his scope. #1 – Ten City =Jack Gilligan aboard for Kenny McPeek and the trainer was quoted as saying “this may be one of the most talented runners he has trained.” – His last effort at Ellis was surprising as a beaten chalk who goes from 7f to 1 1/16. Should get a good stalking trip close to the rail. #7 – Flameaway = Julien Leparoux in the irons for Mark Casse. The barn has faced some tough Euro-turf runners. This son of Scat Daddy is 2/2, and the distance should not be a problem. I went back and watched his last replay and it may be better than the results may tell. I like his chances today.

Race #11 – G2 Pocahontas – 1 1/16 – 5:50 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #3 – Snowfire / #8 – Sunny Skies / #10 – Upset Brewing

#3 – Snowfire = Daughter of Tapit for the Mark Casse barn. Julien Leparoux in the saddle and owns an impressive maiden win at CD with a troubled trip at Saratoga in the G3 Schuylerville. She looks to rebound off a beaten favorite trip (24%) and Leparoux has been on-fire going 14/23 the past week. Julien may be staying in Louisville looking for a gal to take to the big dances coming up. #8 – Sunny Skies = Robby Albarado in the saddle for Ken McPeek and 1/1 at CD. McPeek wins (20%) going sprint to a route and this daughter of Animal Kingdom may be a major player. #10 – Upset Brewing = 2/2 ITM at CD for trainer “Buff” Bradley. She always brings her best and owns a razor sharp work coming back to Louisville. Look for an up-close stalking trip ready to pounce.

Race #8 – G2 Canadian – 1 1/8 on the turf -4:29 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #5 – Elysea’s World / #1 – Quidara / #5 – Starship Jubilee

#5 – Elysea’s World = Jose Ortz in the saddle for Chad Brown = (39%). Daughter of Champs Elysees and she should relish the lush greensward. Her dam Ideal has 4 starts with 4 turf winners and is making her 3rd off the layoff move and adding distance. She could fit the race with a well timed Ortiz ride. #1 – Quidara = Daughter of Dubawi and looks to be the one to beat from the Motion barn. Junior Alvarado aboard and she exits the G1 Diana at Saratoga bested by a head from the turf monster Lady Eli. The race goes through this filly if you want the winner. #5 – Starship Jubilee = 2nd off the layoff move and cuts back in distance from 1 3/8. She’s locked horns with the boys in the G2 Sky Classic and is a close-up stalker in the hands of Eurico Da Silva.

Race #10 – The G1 Northern Dancer – 1 1/2 on the turf – 5:31 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #4 – Messi / #8 – Hawkbill / #5 – Pumpkin Rumble

#4 – Messi = Jose Ortiz in the irons for Graham Motion. He is 1/1 at Woodbine and been in the shelf for 57 days. He should be forwardly placed and Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace. Solid work tab and well-rested runners do well for the barn (19%). #8 – Hawkbill = Colm O’Donoghue for Charles Applebee. This is a son of Kitten’s Joy and gets Lasix shipping in from Group 1 company in Germany. He is 8/13 ITM on turf and faced some very tough Euro turfers. He is 3/3 ITM at the distance and should be mid-pack today. #5 – Pumpkin Rumble = Speedy son of English Channel who should be the pace setter. Jesse Campbell in the irons and 2/3 ITM going this distance.

Race #12 – G1 Woodbine Mile – 1 mile on the turf – 6:34 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #6 – Deauville / #8 – Mondialiste / #1 – World Appeal

#6 – Deauville = Jamie Spencer for Aidan O’Brien. They bring a son of Galileo exiting the Arlington Million as a beaten favorite. Spencer takes over for Ryan Moore and they cut back from 1 1/4 – 1 mile and a shot at a qualifying spot for the Breeders’ Cup. He’s run well on this side of the pond and lesser distance could play into his plans. #8 – Mondialiste = Jose Ortiz in the irons for David O’Meara. 1/1 at Woodbine and the Lasix sure helped his causes in the past. He is 9/16 ITM at the distance and been off since York in late August. #1 – World Appeal = John Velasquez for Mark Casse and exits a strong win in the G1 FourStarDave. Casse comes into the race loaded, and a stalking trip just off the pace might be in the cards.

9/9/17

Race #2 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6f on the turf – #5 – Solid

#5 – Solid = Manny Franco in the irons for the Kiaran McLaughlin barn. He is a son of Smart Strike and has the breeding to suggest he will relish the turf. – He was off slow from the start spotting the field extra ground. He made an excellent drive to get back in the game and made striking move splitting runners down the lane to be 3rd this day.

Race #4 – Mdn Sp Wt – 1 mile – #5 – Coal Truth

#5 – Coal Truth = A son of Mineshaft was making his 2nd career start for the Chad Brown barn (27%). He was a beaten favorite his first time out and going from a sprint to a route where Brown scores at a (32%) clip. – He made contact with some runners this day and the two-yr-old was squeezed back at multiple times. He ran third but was put up to 2nd as the result of a DQ. – Keep this race on your “key races” to watch runners who exit.

Race #9 – AOC – 1 1/16 on the turf – #2 – Vision Colors

#2 – Vision Colors = Speedster shipping back from Parx. This son of Pollard’s Vision loves Belmont going 10/11 ITM at “Big Sandy.” – Manny Franco in the irons and stumbled at the start and still managed to get to the lead and show the way. He led all the way and called it a day at the top of the lane. Maybe the distance was too much or it was the compromised beginning that caused him to use up his early speed.

Race #2 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6 1/2f on the turf – #4 – Shirl’s Ready

#4 – Shirl’s Ready = This son of More Than Ready was off four months coming in from CD. Ricardo Santana aboard and he looked to be heading for a big effort. – He sported a nice work at Ellis Park and shifted out and dug in gamely showing a very solid turn of late kick. He will most probably be heading back to CD and we’ll be looking there and possibly Keeneland for a trip over the greensward.

Race #4 – Mdn Sp Wt -6 1/2f on the turf –  #7 – Jolly Good

#7 – Jolly Good = Daughter of Paddy O’ Prado making her first start in just a shade over 4 months coming in from Keeneland. She is bred to relish the turf and was coming off a 6 1/2f effort on the dirt and getting her day on the undulating turf. – She was slow to begin and forced to steady. Her late kick was evident and she can easily stretch out in distance. Keep your eyes peeled for this gal.

Race #8 – KyD Ladies Sprint – 6 1/2f on the turf – #2 – Fair Point

#2 – Fair Point = 3rd start off the layoff for the daughter of Smart Strike. She was exiting some nice stake races in New York and getting added distance. Her efforts put her in the mix looking for a hole and was forced to steady at the 1/4 pole and some back later down the lane settling for 4th with plenty left.

The summer is now into full swing, and with every passing week we’ll have plenty of great runners to watch and wager.  Keep your eyes peeled for the runners below and you may find it better than warm apple pie at the end of a long day. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com.

7/1/17

Belmont

Race #7 – $100,000 Perfect Sting – 1 mile on the turf

#8 – Ancient Secret was making her 2nd start of the 2017 season. The Chad Brown trainee was 4/5 ITM coming into the race was in the 3 path most of the race. When they turned for home she was carried out into the 7 path running 3rd this day. – With a little racing luck she’ll be tough next out.

Race #8 – Allowance – 6f on the main track

#3 – Wicked Macho is a son of Macho Uno. He had Jose Ortiz in the saddle and was exiting the $150,000 Easy Goer. He was odds-on favorite this day and shied at the start, checked off of heels, and weakened down the lane. I am tossing this race as a “bad hair day” and look forward to his next. He looked good coming onto the track and should give a better account next out.

7/2/17

Ellis Park

Race #4 – O.C. 20,000 – 6f on the main track

#2 Bourbon Cowboy shipped in from Arlington and was making the poly-dirt switch. The 3rd off the layoff looked solid as the barn wins (28%) on this move. He broke slow and once he got back on track he finished up with good late kick.

Race #7 – Mdn Sp Wt – 5f on the main track

#10 – Party Club was a first time starter by Sky Mesa. She came in for D. Wayne Lukas off a bullet work and looked good on the track. She came running late and was forced 7 wide at the top of the lane gaining ground rapidly. She’ll get better with each start and should come rolling late in the lane next out.

7/1/17

Belterra Park

Race #4 – Mdn Sp Wt – 5f on the main track

#8 Tempestuous Amy was a 1st time starter by I Want Revenge. She was sent off the odds-on choice and ran an even third place finish. Trainer Bill Connelly wins (20%) with his 2-yr-olds and does very well for the second trip to the races. She’ll be a major player next out.

7/3/17

Belterra Park

Race #7 – Allowance Optional Claiming – 1 mile on the turf

#3 – Princess Drossie was making her 3rd off the layoff move for Phil Sims. She was 1/1 at BtP and had Cory Orm back in the saddle. There was a greast deal of traffic problems resulting in a DQ.  She circled the field in a 7 wide bid getting beat 1/2 length at the wire for everything.

Winter racing is off and running and the best is yet to come. – There is plenty of solid action to warm up your stockings as we make our way toward Spring. But don’t get too far ahead of yourself just yet, as here are some runners who are sure to build your Christmas bankroll in weeks to come. Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Aqueduct

12/3/16

Race #1 – #3 – Schott – 7f on the dirt

He was bumped soundly at the break by the eventual winner, and got pinched back shortly after. Most would toss this race and look for his next.  He made a stout challenge late in the lane to finish 4th at a handsome price for the John Kimmel barn.

Race#3 – #4 – Sweetpollypurebrd – 6f on the main

She broke inward shortly after the start and was bumped around a bit. Rudy Rodriguez will have this filly more focused next time out, as she was gently coaxed to make a solid bid for second leaving plenty in the tank for her next outing.

Race #6 – #3 – Will Did It – 6 1/2f on the main

Alan Garcia’s mount was bumped leaving the gate and was forced to swing seven wide. His charge was gaining strongly and finished a solid second on this day. Trainer David Jacobson will have him ready to fire next up.

Race#8 -#3 – Bar of Gold – 1 mile on the main

Joel Rosario was in the irons for John Kimmel and their runner was making her first start since October 22nd. – She finished an honest 4th as the beaten favorite, and we’ll use this effort as a scouting mission for bigger and better races down the road.

Fair Grounds

12/3/16

Race #2 – #1 – Sky Flower – 6f on the dirt

She was shipping in from Ellis Park and was the odds-on chalk this day. She was in perfect stalking mode under James Graham and angled out late to be a bridesmaid this day. I think she’ll benefit from this race over the track and reward her backers next out.

Race #3 – #3 – Tizahandful – 5 1/2f on the turf

Filly from the Neil Pessin barn was making her first start since Keeneland. – She was tossing her head about and bumped soundly leaving the starting gate. Carlos Marquez tried to get her back on track as she finished strong but ran out of real estate finishing 5th.

Race #5 – #10 – Full Tap – 5 1/2 f on the turf

Mike Stidham trainee jumped right to the front after a bumping match with the starting gate. Mitchell Murrill tried to steady her course, but she came up a bit leg weary down the lane. She’ll show much better with a cleaner trip.

BetPTC.com – Horses to Watch – 7/13/15 – Ed Meyer

You know summer is in full swing when you start hearing about the upcoming meets of Saratoga and Del Mar. – Horse player’s keep time by what track is in session, and with the “Million Day” preview card at Arlington Park,  the Arlington Million is about a month away. With that in mind, here are some runners you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for next out. Best of luck, and remember that “fortune favors the bold.”

Up With the Birds = Arlington / Race #6 / #2 / 7/11/15 – The grass course had plenty of cut by all reports, and it seemed a little better from this handicapper’s eye. Up With the Birds had the services of young Drayden Van Dyke who may be one of the best up-and-coming turf riders for the future. He broke well and stayed along the rail down the backstretch. Just about the time he was given his cue, he was soundly bumped by Yankee Dealer and Coco Mon nearing the 1/2 mile mark. After the bustling he kicked out four wide and attempted to make a rally, but came up a bit empty. You can bet trainer Graham Motion will have the bugs ironed out the next time he enters the paddock.

Roman Approval = Arlington / Race #7 / #3 / 7/11/15 – When a runner does very little wrongs and still gets beat, you just hold your breath until the next outing. Julien Leparoux broke on the lead under a hammer lock and tried to control the early pace of his efforts. He held sway all the way around until he was bested down the lane by the ultra-tough runner The Pizza Man. – He was only beaten a neck and you can bet if he faces runners in his ability range, it may be a different outcome.

African Fighter = Belmont / Race #7 / #6 / 7/11/15 – Luis Saez had the mount for Todd Pletcher and they were shipping over from Monmouth for this venture. He stumbled at the start and regained his footing. Going down the backstretch he started picking up momentum but ended up in the parking lot all the while gaining ground at a good clip. Give him a better start and we’ll end up having a very nice runner to play.

Willow U = Belmont / Race #10 / #9 / 7/11/15 – She stumbled at the start getting a snout full of race track to begin. This is usually pretty tough to overcome, but started to get in gear about the 3/8th’s pole. His interest was keen and swing three wide to finish up for the show money. Junior Alvarado did an excellent job all the way around, and if she doesn’t go face down in the dirt next out, she’ll be a factor to be reckoned with about the 1/4 pole.

Donsandroses = Belterra Park / Race #8 / #9 / 7/10/15 – Remember the name Jordano Tunon. He’ll be a really nice rider over time, but the young jockey had everything but the kitchen sink tossed at him in this race. He broke out and hit the gate at the start, settled out, and started gaining to have the lead at one point by a head. He was drifting about and just looked to be lost on this day. Claiming $5,000 N2L is not the Queen’s Plate, but sometimes the small tracks offer a player or two that deserve a good look next time out. After speaking with the chart callers following the race, we all agreed he was one for the watch list as he appeared to have other things on his mind. If you liked 6-1 this last time out, I’ll bet dollars to donuts he’ll be about the same price if not higher next up.

Sapphire Spitfire = Ellis Park / Race #6 / #2 / 7/12/15 – B.J. Hernandez did nothing wrong for the record. He broke alertly and settle in nice. He started closing in on the leader, but was bested by a monster by the name of Dothraki Queen who won by a commanding 7 lengths. – I like to call this effort “running a winners race” but not getting your picture taken. Two-year-olds mature rapidly at this time of year and she’ll be money in the bank next out.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 7/6/15

Ed Meyer

America celebrated our 239th Independence Day, and BBQ grills around the nation had a pretty good workout. Add in the fireworks spectacular, and it was a full weekend indeed. Oh, did I mention there was so much incredible racing action it could have filled every horse player’s plate for second and third helpings. – With the bevy of action, there are some runners who will more than sparkle next time out to the races.

Samraat = Belmont / Race #4 / #4 / 7/4/15 – The compact field turned out to be a “smash em’ crash em'” affair. He was squeezed at the break, and fought tooth and nail to the 3/8th’s pole. Just when you thought the bumpy ride was over, he was nailed again before tossing in the towel. Give him a clean start and you’ll see a whole new runner appear.

Strict Compliance = Belmont / Race #10 / #14 / 7/4/15 – Away awkwardly from the gate, and was wide most of the race. She had the services of Javier Castellano and he makes few mistakes. At 17-1, I felt the price was worth the outside post draw. Once he got sailing after being 8 wide he offered up a nice late kick to finish 4th. Give her a quick clock and she’ll set the record straight next out.

Sharp Gal = Belterra Park / Race #4 / #6 / 7/4/15 – Tom Drury trainee was a victim of a domino effect when another filly fell and caused a horrible chain reaction. She was stalking in a winner’s stride when she went down around the 1/4 pole. – He said she came back fine, and be on the lookout for some payback.

Emmett Park = Ellis Park / Race #3 / #3 / 7/4/15 – Jon Court was aboard and had to over come a slow start being wide. Once he regained composure, he looped up five wide and came rolling. Looked like a winner but was bested by Joh’s Gone Wild. – I think a clean start gets the job done next out.

Mosler = Woodbine / Race #10 / #2 / 7/5/15 – Shaun Bridgmohan was blocked in mid-stretch and appeared to have a handful of horse. He finished up with a handful, and will get loose in the lane next out. Be on the lookout for him to appear at Belmont for Bill Mott and the same rider in the long stretch of “Big Sandy.”
