#4 Improbable is a son of City Zip for Bob Baffert with Hall of Famer Mike Smith in the saddle. This closer was a beaten favorite in the eventful Derby and he’s faced some of the toughest runners this year. He is 5 for 6 ITM lifetime and looks for a solid effort to rebound off his KY Derby performance. #2 Bourbon War is a son of Tapit and gets blinkers for trainer Mark Hennig. He’s been off since for the G1 Florida Derby and this long range closer has Irad Ortiz in the saddle and he wins 22% with this type of runner. #7 Alwaysmining is a son of Stay Thirsty with Daniel Centeno in the irons. He has a quick turn of foot and plenty of early speed going six in a row. He won the Federico Tesio which has been a long time prep for this race.

#1 A Thread of Blue has been off two months for the Kiaran McLaughlin barn. Luis Saez in the saddle for this son of Hard Spun. He is a perfect stalker and can take over the lead if the fractions are slow. He is seeking his 4th win in a row and Saez opts for this mount over Social Paranoia. #2 Social Paranoia is a son of Street Boss for trainer Todd Pletcher. His first start of 2019 was super impressive and switches riders to Manny Franco. He is 6 for 6 ITM lifetime and a big effort may be on the agenda for this late running colt. #8 Avie’s Flatter is a son of Flatter for trainer Josie Carroll. He is looking for his fourth straight win exiting off an impressive win in the G3 Transylvania.

Race #11 – The G1 – Turf Classic – 1 1/8 on the turf – 5:25 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2 – Raging Bull / #9 – Synchrony / #12 – Bricks and Mortar

#2 Raging Bull is a son of Dark Angel (IRE) for trainer Chad Brown with Joel Rosario in the irons. He is a late runner who will make his presence felt at the top of the lane while making his 2nd start of the year. Heavily backed last out, Bull gave a very good account of himself last time out. He has an explosive turn of foot. #9 Synchrony is a son of Tapit for trainer Mike Stidham. John Velasquez in the saddle and he is 1 for 1 ITM at CD. This is his 3rd start off the layoff where the barn wins 23%. Look for Johnny V to come rolling late in the stretch. #12 Bricks and Mortar hails from the Chad Brown barn with Irad Ortiz as the pilot. 2nd off the layoff seeking four straight wins. He is 3 for 3 going the distance and Ortiz is a strong finisher down the lane. The only knock is overcoming the #12 post.

Race #12 – The 145th running of the G1 Kentucky Derby – 1 1/4 – 6:50 pm EDT

*** Omaha Beach is a late scratch and #20 – Bodexpress draws into the race ***

BetPTC.com Selections / #17 – Roadster / #16 – Game Winner / #6 Vekoma

#17 Roadster is one of three runners for the Bob Baffert camp. He is a son of Quality Road and Florent Geroux is in the saddle. This is his 3rd start off the layoff, lightly raced, and if you watched the G1 Santa Anita Derby, you’ll see an incredible effort. He settled in, dropped back and made an explosive move around the bend. Geroux is an excellent reinsman and I’m looking for him to wear the roses this year. #16 Game Winner is a son of Candy Ride for trainer Bob Baffert. 1 for 1 at CD and 3rd off the layoff for this colt. Since winning the B/C Juvenile last year he owns a pair of 2nd place efforts in the G2 Rebel and G1 Santa Anita Derby. He’s a game runner and does very little wrong. I’m looking for a perfect stalking trip to make it a Baffert exacta. #6 Vekoma is a son of Candy Ride for trainer George Weaver. Javier Castellano in driver’s seat, and this guy has a wicked turn of foot. He should stalk just off the pace and make a move around the far turn. If Mother Nature gets ugly, he is bred well to love a wet surface.

Florent Geroux stays aboard and makes 2nd off the layoff move. This son of Malibu Moon is going to be close to the pace and will be forwardly placed. #8 Great Wide Open for the Conor Murphy barn winning 29%. 3rd off the layoff and will be the main speed. James Graham in the saddle and is a solid 4 for 6 ITM at FG. Don’t let him get loose or he may be tough.

Joe Rocco Jr. in the irons and can be dangerous with fresh legs. #4 Liora is a daughter of Candy Ride for trainer Wayne Catalano. She’s been off for 56 days and comes back dropping in class after winning the G2 Golden Rod at CD. Class relief and rest may be just what the doctor ordered as she looks for three in a row. #7 Mandy Blue daughter of Smart Strike for trainer Brad Cox. #6 Hog Creek Hustle is a son of Overanalyze for trainer Vickie Foley. 3rd off the layoff and was off a step slow last out. He has a late turn of foot and Florent Geroux picks up the call. His last works seal the deal for me and look for him to come calling late. #8 War of Will is a son of War Front for the Mark Casse barn winning 28% with Tyler Gaffalione in town. After moving for the turf this colt was ultra impressive breaking his maiden at CD. He may be getting geared up at the right time with solid works to show readiness. #11 Tight Ben is a son Tapit for trainer Steve Asmussen.
