BetPTC.com Selections / #5 -United / #6 – The Great Day / #4 – Marckie’s Water

#5 United is a son of Giant’s Causeway for Dick Mandella and Flavien Prat in the irons. This is his second off the layoff and looks for his 2nd win over the course. He’s a long range closer and the added ground should not hurt his chances. He does step up in class and Mandella does an excellent job at spotting his horses when they’re ready to climb the class ladder. His dam Indy Punch has 4 starters, 4 winners, and 2 turf winners to her credit. Prat is an excellent turf rider winning 27% on the greensward. #6 The Great Day makes his 3rd off the layoff shipping in from the G3 Arlington Handicap. He comes from the barn of Arnaud Delacour and he wins 29% 3rd time off the shelf. John Velasquez in town to ride and he’s been working bullets in the morning. #4 Marckie’s Water hails from the barn of Richard Baltas and Tiago Pereira in the irons. This is his 2nd off the layoff and ran a strong second in the G2 Eddie Read. His dam Russian River has 3 starters, 3 winners, and 3 turf winners. Look for a big late run at the top of the stretch.

Race #9 – The G1 Del Mar Oaks – 1 1/8 on the turf – 9:00 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Cambier Parc / #5 – Raymundos Secret / #14 – Hidden Message

#1 Cambier Parc is a daughter of Medaglia d’ Oro shipping in from Belmont Park. She comes from the Chad Brown barn with John Velasquez in the saddle. She cuts ack in distance and is 4 for 5 ITM on the sod. A perfect stalker draws the rail spot and owns a sharp work to prepare. #5 Raymundos Secret comes from the Richard Baltas barn making her second off the layoff move. Florent Geroux has the assignment and wins 21% with turf runners as she looks to be a perfect 3 for 3. Steps up in class and gets added distance. Look for an upclose stalking ride. #14 Hidden Message ships in from Sandown Park for trainer Simon Callaghan. She is a daughter of Scat Daddy with Flavien Prat in the driver’s seat. She gets first Lasix and the barn wins 30% on the medication change. Look for a mid pack stalking trip as Prat is an excellent judge of pace.

Race #10 – The G1 Pacific Classic – 1 1/4 – 9:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 -Seeking the Soul / #8 – Campaign / #3 – Pavel

#5 Seeking the Soul comes in for the Dallas Stewart barn with John Velasquez in the saddle. This son of Perfect Soul won the G2 Stephen Foster and Churchill runners have been doing very well on the west coast. He’s a long range closer as Velasquez looks for two in a row. He always brings a solid run and expect him to get in the mix as they turn for home. #8 Campaign is a son of Curlin for John Sadler and Rafael Bejarano. This is his second off the layoff and he’s 1 for 1 over the Del Mar strip. He turns back in distance and should be running late. #3 Pavel makes his 3rd off the shelf for trainer Doug O’Neill with Mario Gutierrez in the saddle. BetPTC.com / Weekend Stakes Preview / Ed Meyer

The 35th edition of the Breeders’ Cup will take place this Friday and Saturday. There are fourteen Breeders’ Cup races with the best runners in the world converging on Louisville, Kentucky. We will cover races 8-11 which make up the $3 million dollar guaranteed late pick-four.

Churchill Downs

Race #8 – The Breeders’ Cup Mile – 1 mile on turf – 3:36 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Expert Eye / #5 – Oscar Performance / #2 – Next Shares

#7 Expert Eye is the son of Acclamation for Sir Michael Stoute. He gets first Lasix and has been a little short of getting the mile distance. Europeans have a way of getting added distance on these days and has the services of Frankie Dettori in irons. The 55 days away from the races may have him in top order and the connections like their chances. #5 Oscar Performance is a son of Kittens’ Joy for trainer Brian Lynch with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. He is a perfect 3 for 3 at the distance and exits the G1 Woodbine Mile which has served as a great prep for this affair. Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace and should try and wire the field. #2 Next Shares is a son of Archarcharch and exits the G1 Shadwell Mile at Keeneland. Also a key prep for this race and 6 for 9 ITM going the distance. Respected rider Tyler Gafflione in the saddle and trainer Richard Baltas wins 17% on the turf. This closer will come calling late.

Race #9 – The Breeders’ Cup Distaff – 1 1/8 – 4:16 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #11 – Monomoy Girl / #2 – Abel Tasman / #10 – Blue Prize

#11 Monomoy Girl is a daughter of Tapizar for trainer Brad Cox. She is 3 for 3 ITM at Churchill and was a beaten favorite in the G1 Cotillion at Parx.  She won and was disqualified but her works are showing readiness to roll. Florent Geroux in the irons and she is 2 for 2 at the distance. If she runs back to the G1 CCA Oaks she’s gonna be tough to handle. #2 Abel Tasman comes to post for Bob Baffert and Mike Smith in the saddle. Toss out the last race where she bobbled and came off slow. According to Baffert she spiked a fever and wasn’t feeling herself. 3rd start off the layoff, solid works and 4 for 4 ITM at the distance makes her a player. #10 Blue Prize is a daughter of Pure Prize for Ignacio Correas. “Jersey” Joe Bravo in the saddle and she is 5 for 5 ITM at CD. That was a nice win in the G1 Spinster and Correas is winning 44% looking for 4-in-a-row.

Race #10 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf – 1 1/2 on the turf – 4:56 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #12 – Waldgeist / #2 – Enable / #1 – Talismanic

#12 Waldgeist is a son of Galileo for the Andre Fabre yard. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a game 2nd in the Gr1 Arc de Triomphe. He looks to be sitting on a huge effort and the top shelf connections have been speaking good things all week. #2 Enable is an ultra talented filly for trainer John Gosden. She has rolled off eight straight wins and looks to be the one to beat. Frankie Dettori is the reinsman and she’s been training well at Churchill Downs applying the final touches. She is 3 for 3 at the distance and her only knock is that Arc winners are 0 for 8 winning this event. #1 Talismanic exits a key race in the Gr1 Arc and won this event last year paying a handsome price. Is a repeat in the cards? He has excellent breeding and will come calling late in the lane.

Race #11 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic – 1 1/4 – 5:44 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2- Thunder Snow / #14 – Accelerate / #6 – McKinzie

#2 Thunder Snow has been looking good in the morning works over the CD oval. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a huge effort in the G1 Jockey Gold Cup getting bested by a neck at the wire. He is 3 for 4 ITM going 1 1/4 and should be in mid pack poised to pounce. #14 Accelerate is looking to go four in a row for trainer John Sadler. Joel Rosario is the reinsman and has been aboard his last two impressive wins. He loves the distance going 4 for 4 and won the G1 Pacific Classic by 12 lengths. Loves the distance, the rider fits like a glove, and he’s gonna be tough down the lane. #6 McKinzie is a son of Street Sense who won the Kentucky Derby. Bob Baffert and Mike Smith team up and they do every good work when the money is on the line. Should be forwardly placed with a rider who is an excellent judge of pace. Can be a major player today.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 8/23/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The wagering world had bankroll action on the G1 Alabama and G1 Pacific Classic. Elate scored in the 137th edition under the guidance of Jose Ortiz for Bill Mott. The G1 Pacific Classic set up as the “battle of the stablemates” as Collected set a reasonable pace besting Arrogate down the lane.  Last weekend was hardly the crown jewel of summer as Saratoga offers up the 148th running of the Travers / The Mid-Summer Derby this Saturday. – We still have a few days until post time, and here are some runners who you’ll need to keep on your radar screen. They may come right back and reward their loyal backers next time on the track. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!

Saratoga

8/19/17

Race #5 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6f – #6 – Variant Perception

#6 – Variant Perception = This was a 1st-time starter by Curlin for the Chad Brown barn. His dam Mystery Trip has 5 winners from 5 starters and came in off some good works. – He broke in the air prior to the start and brushed leaving the starting gate.  Brown will have him ready for the races next up and wins at a solid clip 2nd trip out.

Race #6 – Alw $85,000 – 1 1/8 on the main – #5 – Hookup

#5 – Hookup = Manny Franco in the saddle and this son of Union Rags has been away from the races for 8 months. – He was knocked around the start and was taken out of stride. After being forced into another, Franco picked up the action and made a solid bid finishing up to be third this day.

Race #9 – G1 Alabama Stakes – 1 1/4 on the main – #1 – New Money Honey

#1 – New Money Honey = This was her first time on the dirt and has been a turf monster. She was looking three-in-a-row and her 3rd off the shelf. – Javier Castellano in the irons and Chad Brown the conditioner (33%). She was in tracking mode and forced to steady and tap on the breaks at the 1/4 pole weakening down the lane.

Saratoga

8/20/17

Race #5 – Mdn Sp Wt – 1 1/16 on the turf – #5 – Lemoona

#5 – Lemoona = Two-yr-old filly by Lemon Drop Kid, and she has the breeding that suggests she’ll relish the turf. – She was sandwiched and slammed leaving the starting gate. Junior Alvarado did a great job-saving ground and was forced to sweep 5 wide at the 1/4 pole making a late bid for 2nd money.

Race  #9 – $100,000 Summer Colony – 1 1/8 on the main – #4 – Romantic Vision

#4 – Romantic Vision = Javier Castellano in the saddle for Rusty Arnold. She’s been away from the races for 60 days since Churchill Downs and had a couple of works over the deep Oklahoma training track. This was not her day at all as she stumbled badly at the start, took up and bumped. After all this action she never regained her momentum and called it a day. Look for her to return at this level of the upper stratosphere of the allowance ranks.

8/18/17

Race #1 – Claiming – 5f on the main – #8 – Scotch is My Candy

#8 – Scotch is My Candy = Carson Sullivan in the irons for John Alexander Ortiz (22%). This daughter of Sidney’s candy was shipping in from Indiana Grand. She was taking a huge plunge in class and the barn is 9/9 ITM at the meet. She was off slow at the start and was forced to rush up quickly making a strong bid this day. The barn is solid and she’ll get it together next out.

Race #6 – O.C. $25,000 – 1 mile on the turf – #9 – In the Shoes

#9 – In the Shoes = Very solid gal coming off a win at BtP, and trainer Donna Taylor is winning (30%) at the meet. This daughter of Congrats ran into a little trouble during the race and was forced to check twice into the far turn and fanned six wide. After all the activity, rider Dick Cardenas got her rolling late and made a powerful late bid to be a bridesmaid this day. A little bit of racing luck and she’ll be getting a trip to the winner’s circle.
