They are winning 28% as a team and this son of Tapit is 2/2. He’s a versatile runner seeking his third straight win moving up the ladder. #3 Global Campaign goes to post for trainer Stanley Hough with Luis saez in the saddle. BetPTC.com Selections / #8 – Copper Town / #9 – Unbridled Juan / #6 – Aztec Sense

#8 Copper Town is from the Todd Pletcher barn winning 25%. This son of Speightstown has been away from the races for 56 days and drops down in class from the G1 Cigar Mile. The rider and trainer have been 10 for 14 ITM the past two weeks and had a rough trip stepping up in class last out. The drop back down and move to high percentage Javier Castellano should have him up close stalking. #9 Unbridled Juan is a son of Unbridled’s Joy for trainer Jose Corrales. He is  4 for 4 ITM and is looking for 3 in a row. He cuts back from 1 1/8 and his form cycle is top notch. #6 Aztec Sense is a son of Street Sense looking for 9 in a row. He is 3 for 4 at GP ITM and makes a cutback in distance. Emisael Jaramillo in the irons and he is winning 35% with the barn this meet.

Race #10 – The G3 W.L. McKnight – 1 1/2 on the turf – 4:00 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #4 – Zulu Alpha / #2 – Soglio / #7 – Canessar

#4 Zulu Alpha is a son of Street Cry for trainer Mike Maker. 2nd off the layoff and 2 for 3 ITM at the distance. Drops in class from the G2 Ft Lauderdale and should improve greatly. Irad Ortiz in the irons and he wins 23% on the turf. #2 Soglio is a son of Scat Daddy for trainer Mike Maker. He is 4 for 4 ITM at GP and was a beaten favorite last out. Maker wins 24% coming back off this angle and cuts back from the two mile distance. He had a tough trip last out lacking room and just missing at the wire. Today could be payback time. #7 Canessar comes from the Arnaud Delacour barn. He is a stone cold closer and has the services of high percentage Javier Castellano in the saddle. He’s been off 6 months and has a solid work pattern.

Race  #11 – The G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf – 1 3/16 turf – 4:57 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Magic Wand / #5 – Next Shares / #2 – Yoshida

#1 Magic Wand is a daughter of Galileo from the Aidan O’Brien yard. She ran 4th in the BC Filly and Mare Turf and goes without Lasix. She’s been off two months and her dam Pruendezia (IRE) has 6 starters, 4 winners, 2 stakes winners, and 4 turf winners to her credit. She has a strong late kick. #5 Next Shares from the Richard Baltas barn has Tyler Gaffalione in the driver’s seat. This gelding makes his 2nd start after winning the G2 San Gabriel and is 1 for 1 at GP. He adds distance and Gaffalione is winning at 17% on the sod. #2 Yoshida hails from the Bill Mott barn where he’s been off for two months since the BC Classic. He was 4th and six wide and just got beat at the wire. He’s a solid closer and will be rolling late in the lane.

Race #12 – The G1 Pegasus World Cup – 1 1/8 – 5:36 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #10 – Audible / #3 – City of Lights / #8- Gunnevera

#10 Audible has Flavien Prat aboard for Todd Pletcher. They are 3 for 4 ITM at GP and since the Derby, and this colt has really matured. Prat takes over for Castellano who opts for City of Lights. #3 City of Lights is a speedy son of Quality Road. He is more versatile than his races show on paper and Javier Castellano in the saddle is a plus. They ship in from CD and Mike McCarthy wins 25% on the ship. Very dangerous runner. #8 Gunnevera is a stone cold closer from the Antonio Sano barn. He is 8 for 9 ITM at GP and came flying late in the BC Classic. He enters off a two month layoff and look for him to come calling late in the lane under Irad Ortiz.

Churchill Downs

Race #8 – The Breeders’ Cup Mile – 1 mile on turf – 3:36 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Expert Eye / #5 – Oscar Performance / #2 – Next Shares

#7 Expert Eye is the son of Acclamation for Sir Michael Stoute. He gets first Lasix and has been a little short of getting the mile distance. Europeans have a way of getting added distance on these days and has the services of Frankie Dettori in irons. The 55 days away from the races may have him in top order and the connections like their chances. #5 Oscar Performance is a son of Kittens’ Joy for trainer Brian Lynch with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. He is a perfect 3 for 3 at the distance and exits the G1 Woodbine Mile which has served as a great prep for this affair. Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace and should try and wire the field. #2 Next Shares is a son of Archarcharch and exits the G1 Shadwell Mile at Keeneland. Also a key prep for this race and 6 for 9 ITM going the distance. Respected rider Tyler Gafflione in the saddle and trainer Richard Baltas wins 17% on the turf. This closer will come calling late.

Race #9 – The Breeders’ Cup Distaff – 1 1/8 – 4:16 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #11 – Monomoy Girl / #2 – Abel Tasman / #10 – Blue Prize

#11 Monomoy Girl is a daughter of Tapizar for trainer Brad Cox. She is 3 for 3 ITM at Churchill and was a beaten favorite in the G1 Cotillion at Parx.  She won and was disqualified but her works are showing readiness to roll. Florent Geroux in the irons and she is 2 for 2 at the distance. If she runs back to the G1 CCA Oaks she’s gonna be tough to handle. #2 Abel Tasman comes to post for Bob Baffert and Mike Smith in the saddle. Toss out the last race where she bobbled and came off slow. According to Baffert she spiked a fever and wasn’t feeling herself. 3rd start off the layoff, solid works and 4 for 4 ITM at the distance makes her a player. #10 Blue Prize is a daughter of Pure Prize for Ignacio Correas. “Jersey” Joe Bravo in the saddle and she is 5 for 5 ITM at CD. That was a nice win in the G1 Spinster and Correas is winning 44% looking for 4-in-a-row.

Race #10 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf – 1 1/2 on the turf – 4:56 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #12 – Waldgeist / #2 – Enable / #1 – Talismanic

#12 Waldgeist is a son of Galileo for the Andre Fabre yard. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a game 2nd in the Gr1 Arc de Triomphe. He looks to be sitting on a huge effort and the top shelf connections have been speaking good things all week. #2 Enable is an ultra talented filly for trainer John Gosden. She has rolled off eight straight wins and looks to be the one to beat. Frankie Dettori is the reinsman and she’s been training well at Churchill Downs applying the final touches. She is 3 for 3 at the distance and her only knock is that Arc winners are 0 for 8 winning this event. #1 Talismanic exits a key race in the Gr1 Arc and won this event last year paying a handsome price. Is a repeat in the cards? He has excellent breeding and will come calling late in the lane.

Race #11 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic – 1 1/4 – 5:44 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2- Thunder Snow / #14 – Accelerate / #6 – McKinzie

#2 Thunder Snow has been looking good in the morning works over the CD oval. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a huge effort in the G1 Jockey Gold Cup getting bested by a neck at the wire. He is 3 for 4 ITM going 1 1/4 and should be in mid pack poised to pounce. #14 Accelerate is looking to go four in a row for trainer John Sadler. Joel Rosario is the reinsman and has been aboard his last two impressive wins. He loves the distance going 4 for 4 and won the G1 Pacific Classic by 12 lengths. Loves the distance, the rider fits like a glove, and he’s gonna be tough down the lane. #6 McKinzie is a son of Street Sense who won the Kentucky Derby. Bob Baffert and Mike Smith team up and they do every good work when the money is on the line. Should be forwardly placed with a rider who is an excellent judge of pace. Can be a major player today.

BetPTC.com / Graded Stakes Preview / Ed Meyer

Churchill Downs

9/16/17

Race #10 – The G3 Iroquois – 1 1/16 – 5:20 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #2 – Hollywood Star / #1 – Ten City / #7 – Flameaway

#2 – Hollywood Star = Robby Albarado in the saddle for Dale Romans. 2-yr-old son of Malibu Moon and won his Mdn start at CD and came back to run a game effort in the G2 Saratoga Special. His numbers are strong and exits off a sparkling work at CD. I’m thinking there may some distance questions down the road but the 1 1/16 in definitely in his scope. #1 – Ten City =Jack Gilligan aboard for Kenny McPeek and the trainer was quoted as saying “this may be one of the most talented runners he has trained.” – His last effort at Ellis was surprising as a beaten chalk who goes from 7f to 1 1/16. Should get a good stalking trip close to the rail. #7 – Flameaway = Julien Leparoux in the irons for Mark Casse. The barn has faced some tough Euro-turf runners. This son of Scat Daddy is 2/2, and the distance should not be a problem. I went back and watched his last replay and it may be better than the results may tell. I like his chances today.

Race #11 – G2 Pocahontas – 1 1/16 – 5:50 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #3 – Snowfire / #8 – Sunny Skies / #10 – Upset Brewing

#3 – Snowfire = Daughter of Tapit for the Mark Casse barn. Julien Leparoux in the saddle and owns an impressive maiden win at CD with a troubled trip at Saratoga in the G3 Schuylerville. She looks to rebound off a beaten favorite trip (24%) and Leparoux has been on-fire going 14/23 the past week. Julien may be staying in Louisville looking for a gal to take to the big dances coming up. #8 – Sunny Skies = Robby Albarado in the saddle for Ken McPeek and 1/1 at CD. McPeek wins (20%) going sprint to a route and this daughter of Animal Kingdom may be a major player. #10 – Upset Brewing = 2/2 ITM at CD for trainer “Buff” Bradley. She always brings her best and owns a razor sharp work coming back to Louisville. Look for an up-close stalking trip ready to pounce.

9/16/17

Race #8 – G2 Canadian – 1 1/8 on the turf -4:29 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #5 – Elysea’s World / #1 – Quidara / #5 – Starship Jubilee

#5 – Elysea’s World = Jose Ortz in the saddle for Chad Brown = (39%). Daughter of Champs Elysees and she should relish the lush greensward. Her dam Ideal has 4 starts with 4 turf winners and is making her 3rd off the layoff move and adding distance. She could fit the race with a well timed Ortiz ride. #1 – Quidara = Daughter of Dubawi and looks to be the one to beat from the Motion barn. Junior Alvarado aboard and she exits the G1 Diana at Saratoga bested by a head from the turf monster Lady Eli. The race goes through this filly if you want the winner. #5 – Starship Jubilee = 2nd off the layoff move and cuts back in distance from 1 3/8. She’s locked horns with the boys in the G2 Sky Classic and is a close-up stalker in the hands of Eurico Da Silva.

Race #10 – The G1 Northern Dancer – 1 1/2 on the turf – 5:31 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #4 – Messi / #8 – Hawkbill / #5 – Pumpkin Rumble

#4 – Messi = Jose Ortiz in the irons for Graham Motion. He is 1/1 at Woodbine and been in the shelf for 57 days. He should be forwardly placed and Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace. Solid work tab and well-rested runners do well for the barn (19%). #8 – Hawkbill = Colm O’Donoghue for Charles Applebee. This is a son of Kitten’s Joy and gets Lasix shipping in from Group 1 company in Germany. He is 8/13 ITM on turf and faced some very tough Euro turfers. He is 3/3 ITM at the distance and should be mid-pack today. #5 – Pumpkin Rumble = Speedy son of English Channel who should be the pace setter. Jesse Campbell in the irons and 2/3 ITM going this distance.

Race #12 – G1 Woodbine Mile – 1 mile on the turf – 6:34 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #6 – Deauville / #8 – Mondialiste / #1 – World Appeal

#6 – Deauville = Jamie Spencer for Aidan O’Brien. They bring a son of Galileo exiting the Arlington Million as a beaten favorite. Spencer takes over for Ryan Moore and they cut back from 1 1/4 – 1 mile and a shot at a qualifying spot for the Breeders’ Cup. He’s run well on this side of the pond and lesser distance could play into his plans. #8 – Mondialiste = Jose Ortiz in the irons for David O’Meara. 1/1 at Woodbine and the Lasix sure helped his causes in the past. He is 9/16 ITM at the distance and been off since York in late August. #1 – World Appeal = John Velasquez for Mark Casse and exits a strong win in the G1 FourStarDave. Casse comes into the race loaded, and a stalking trip just off the pace might be in the cards.

BetPTC.com – Horses to Watch – 7/12/16

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

Is it just me or is summer going by too fast ? – It seems like we had jackets on last week, and the rain has been plentiful around many parts of the country. I hope the Wagering Gods smile brightly on the remainder of the summer season as the best of what this season has to offer is next on deck. – With that in mind here are some runners who deserve a good look and a nice wager to build that summer bankroll. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Belmont

7/9/16 – Race #1 – #5 – 6f on the main

#5 – Bobby on Fleck = Irad Ortiz was the pilot for Chad Brown and these guys do very good work as a team winning (27%). – This first timer was pretty impressive and deserves a good play right back. He came into the race with a resume of bullet works and drew off strongly at the 3/16 th’s pole  to win by six lengths. – He may be a nice play right back moving up the ladder.

BetPTC spring 2016 offer

7/9/16 – Race #2 – #6 – 1 mile on the turf

#6 – Eloweasel = Manny Franco’s mount broke open the gate prior to the start and just stood there. – Either the asst. starter gets a raise, or she just wasn’t ready this day. Once the gates broke she was two wide early and ventured out in the six path rounding the far turn. We’ll give her a pass on this one and look for a blockbuster price next out. Think of this as a teaching moment that will pay boxcars !

7/9/16 – Race #7 – #6 – 1 mile on the dirt

#6 – Economic Model = Irad Ortiz and Chad Brown once again and this son of Flatter came in 4/5 ITM travelling over four different tracks. – Ever since the dismal display in the (G-2) Tampa Derby, he has come back to reel off to straight wins. The barn looks to have her figured out and will be pointing to the Spa where he broke his maiden last year. – Good things are coming from this guy.

7/9/16 – Race #10 – #13 – 1 1/4 on the turf

#13 – Coolmore = Jamie Spencer for Aiden O’Brien and this daughter of Galileo hit the side of the starting gate. Once she settle out nicely, she showed very good interest under a strong hand ride. Better days will be coming her way, and I’ll bet dollars to donuts she’ll stay in the states and look for a very sweet summer stake.

Belterra Park

7/9/16 – Race #7 – #10 – 5 1/2f on the dirt

#10 – Jocker Justice = Leandro Goncalves in town to rid the stake and his maiden has shown very good promise. He had a slow beginning and rushed up into contention very quickly. – From his two races, he was DQ’d for bumping rivals in a maiden affair that had him as the odds-on favorite and produced the eventual winner Cake Pop from that race. His race today showed he has the goods, and trying a maiden in the Hoover Stakes is a bold move. – The red-hot barn of Aaron West will have him figured out for the next effort. You may have to build around him in multi-race exotics to find proper value.

You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet!

Belmont Day Recap – Ed Meyer

Ed Meyer provides his recap of the stakes-filled Belmont card from June 11, 2016.

The (G-1) Acorn Stakes – One mile on the dirt

There was a solid group of six who went to post and the big chalk was the incredible Cathryn Sophia. All of these gals glimmer in their own right, but here is one you’ll want to keep on your watch list for future racing.

Go Maggie Go – This daughter of Ghostzapper has done very little wrong and comes to the races from the Dale Romans bran. This was her worst finish in her brief career (4th) and I’m looking forward to her races down the road. She has two 1 1/8 races under her belt and looks to be finding herself with every race. She responded well to the rider’s commands and looks like this race is just a stepping stone for bigger things to come.

The (G-1) Ogden Phipps Stakes – 1 1/16 on the dirt

Seven fillies and mares took to the track led by Curalina who was the public favorite this day.

Sheer Drama – This daughter of Burning Roma doesn’t have to take her track with her. She is consistent and shows tactical ability at all distances. She lunged at the start this day and was wide before trying to uncork a bid. – This race is a “toss out” and handicapper’s beware. This young lady is going to blossom into a real monster with a little racing luck.

The (G-1) Just a Game Stakes – One mile on the turf

A field of thirteen fillies and mares assembled and with a field this size you may have to go back and watch the replay three or four more times to get the correct read. Here are a couple of gals who will should be on the radar screen for handicappers down the line.

Faufiler – Drayden Van Dyke was aboard for Graham Motion, and both rider and trainer are well versed on the greensward. This daughter of Galileo is a stone cold closer. As long as there’s a solid pace she’ll come rolling from the clouds. In time I think we’ll see her a few strides closer to the pace setters, and that will make double dangerous to pick off runners late in the lane. She mainly has travelled a flat mile, but her breeding suggests she may enjoy added ground. After shipping across the pond from France, she appears to be getting better with every start.

Recepta – She has a late punch that could knock down the champ at any oval. John Velasquez was in the irons this day, and she did very little wrong except come up a bit short nearing the wire. She’s well traveled and merits respect anywhere she’ll run. Her best efforts may range from 1 mile – 1 1/8 on the turf. – Things look very bright for the future.

NHC contest at BetPTC tournament

The (G-1) Metropolitan Handicap – One mile on the dirt

Frosted – Just like a well-aged wine I think this runner will only improve with time. The time figures from every publication are off the charts and he dismissed the “Dubai-Jinx” after getting beat at Meydan and putting on one of the best shows of his career. His late summer-fall campaign will be one to behold if all goes well, and right about when the Breeders’ Cup frenzy is at a fever pitch this will be one of the runners we’ll all be talking about.

The  (G-1) Manhattan Stakes – 1 1/4 on the inner turf

Nine runners went to post and the public made Flintshire from the Chad Brown barn the public choice at the windows.

Flintshire (GB) – This world traveler from the Chad Brown barn had the services of one of the best turf riders in the game with Javier Castellano. – Her passport is stamped in Hong Kong, France, Dubai, and the United States. He missed by a 1/4 length in the 2014 edition of the Breeders’ Cup Turf, and this son of Dansili looked like he has yet to find his best gear. – One thing is for certain, every time he takes to the track he will be one of the tough guys to contend with, and if this race is any indication I can’t wait until we see him back on the weeds.

The (G-1) Belmont Stakes – 1 1/2 – The Test of Champions

As the media missed an opportunity to see Nyquist return for some payback from his Preakness loss, and the rumors swirled around Kent Desormeaux for personal problems. The fans we’re treated to a full field of thirteen runners and in the end  one incredible finish for the Triple Crown.

Destin – This son of Giant’s Causeway has the look of maturing colt at the right time. Add in some well deserved rest and a plan for the later part of the year and we’ll have one tough cookie going to post. – Take nothing away from the fast closing effort of the winner Creator who received a well timed ride from the ultra-talented Irad Ortiz Jr. – Looking ahead, I see a runner with tactical ability who will be feared as a front end presence or stalking just off the hot pace. He should probably find his best races in 1 1/16 – 1 1/8 events. His tactical style fits like a glove and this kind of ability plays well on any oval. By the time Breeders’ Cup is in full view, he’ll be one of the major players on everyone’s tickets.
