John Velasquez in the irons and his works are sparkling coming into the race. A perfect stalker who can light up the tote board as War of Will is going to take a big chunk of the money. #6 War of Will is looking for his 4th straight win. Tyler Gaffalione in the saddle for Mark Casse and they look to have a fine runner. But I’m looking down the road a bit when they hit Louisville on Derby day. This son of War Front has gotten better with every start since coming off the turf. Looking for a better price is no sin and they’ll want to keep him out of trouble as much as possible. If he has his own way he’ll be tough to handle. #11 Hog Creek Hustle comes from the Vickie Foley barn and picks up a new rider in Miguel Mena. He has a strong late kick and when he’s ready he’ll come rolling. Take a look at the 59.3 5f work which was 2 outta 53 for the distance and the day. He should make a good late run and Ortiz moves him right into the game. #5 Vettori Kin ships in from Woodbine facing some very tough company. He is 5 for 11 ITM on the sod and trainer Ken McPeek can bring them ready in a hurry. B.J. Hernandez in the saddle and a big effort would not surprise at all. BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 2/6/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

What a weekend for race fans and punters ! – The road to the Derby was in full swing with stakes in Florida, New York, and California. There was a little football game that made history as handicappers had a full plate of goodies. As we find ourselves 89 days away from hearing “My Old Kentucky Home” call the best three-year-old runners to post. There is plenty of racing and time to build your bankroll. On that note, here are some runners who need a good look before they take the track. It may not have been their day, a bad excuse, or just good things to come. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Aqueduct

2/4/17

Race #2 – #3 – Two Charley’s – 1 mile and 70 yards

This son of Tapit was sent off odds-on favorite and his last two races offered up losses to El Areeb and Irish War Cry. He was bumped leaving the break and was squeezed back forcing Trevor McCarthy to alter course and lose momentum. Once he got everything going he settled  and made a sustained run at the leader only to be second best at his first time at a distance.

Race #9 – #9 – North End – 6f on the main

First timer from the Chad Brown barn and his dam Rhythm Gal had two starters to her credit with two winners. Irad Ortiz in the irons and he was forced to adjust after being carried out at the start. Ortiz was weaving in and out of traffic while trying to save precious ground. They made a game run to be a bridesmaid this day. The barn does very well with 2nd time starters and be on the lookout for this gal.

Gulfstream Park

2/4/17

Race #2 – #11 – Furiosa – 1 1/16 on the turf

Daughter of Mizzen Mast has been working well in the morning and came away awkwardly at the break and was far back in the field. Nik Juarez did an excellent job of negotiating the traffic and managed to come rolling late in the lane.

Race #4 – #4 – Made You Look – 1 mile on the turf

Son of More Than Ready was making his first start since G-3 Dania Beach and was sent off the odds-on choice. Todd Pletcher has a nice turf runner and was bumped around and forced three wide. He weaved in and out and was shut off a few times. At the end of the race he came flying late in the lane and made a solid bid for third money.

Race #6 – #4 – Pretty City Dancer – 7f on the dirt

Daughter of Tapit was sent to post from the hot Mark Casse barn. She had been off for 5 months since Saratoga and had the services of Julien Leparoux. She broke a step off and settled in nicely drafting behind the leader. She finished up a game second and this looked like a perfect ice breaker for bigger and better things to come.

Race #10 – #2 – Chiringuita – 1 1/16 on the turf

Daughter of Hard Spun was getting second time lasix from Roger Attfield barn. This was her second start back on the turf shipping in from Newmarket. Was wide into the first turn and tipped out further going 4 wide down the backstretch. The overall race looked like a good builder with Julien Leparoux in the saddle and I think she’ll show up and give fits next time out.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 8/8/16

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

Mother Nature is still blazing away in parts of the country, but on occasion still shows us a glimpse of all the beauty summer has to showcase. – Saratoga was the main focus this past weekend as Frosted put on a show that has us thinking bigger and bigger races down the road. By all accounts, Frosted returned from a hand-ride in the (G-1) Whitney in good order. He is the second runner in a row to sweep the Met Mile and The Whitney following Honor Code last year. – Here are some runners who had a bad day at the office, or deserve an immediate playback. Just keep your eyes peeled and your bankrolls handy. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Saratoga

8/6/16

Race #1 – #1 – Brooklyn Bobby – 1 1/16 on the turf

This son of Frankel shied inward at the start and was checked up sharply. Good works and great connections with Joel Rosario and Brian Lynch have us looking forward. – This two-year-old has the makings of something very good as his sire wins 64% with his first time turfers. We’ll toss this one and file it under being a youngster. – This guy has something special and needs to be followed right back.

Race #5 – #5 – Sport – 1 1/16 on the turf

Irad Ortiz in the irons with a freshened son of Hard Spun. He had been away from the races for 55 days and has solid works to signal his readiness. – He bumped around leaving the gate and stuck behind a wall of horses under a hammer-lock waiting for room. He was full of run and had no place to go. He has the look of a runner who may wheel right back and score.

Race #10 – #2 – Comfort – (G-1) Whitney – 1 1/8

Johnny V and Pletcher brought this son of Indian Charlie to the paddock. He was facing a monster in Frosted but what he showed gives me great hope moving forward. He checked leaving the starting gate and while in the two path he showed great late acceleration. Maybe facing anyone but Frosted would be a blessing or could he be that upset runner in the wings ? – Time will tell and he’ll give em’ fits next with a clean trip.

Race  #1 – #8 Moonshine Promise – 6f on the main track

DeShawn Parker had the Cleveland invader in the catbird seat and rated well. He fanned out six wide making a late bid and his late turn of foot is what caught my eye. – He may pop up at Thistledown, or right back Mountaineer. I’m looking for a mid-range stake that will have him in the right place ready to roll.

Belterra Park

Race #3 – #2B Include Love – 6f on the main

Ricardo Mejias in town and he was aboard a very fast filly who deserves respect. His mount was for the red-hot Shane Meyers barn and they won by a widening 9 3/4 going away easily. – This gal is a playback who will do well moving up the ladder.

Race #4 – #1 – Pepite – 1 1/16 on the turf

Fresh off the claim for “Chip” Brownfield, and for a turf course that plays kind to speed. This son of Pulpit was fanned eight wide at the top of the short stretch and got up in the shadow of the wire. They haven’t gotten to the bottom of this guy yet, and he looks like a turf runner that has the ability to move up in class. – For what its worth. The same winning connections claimed Aesop from the race who had a bad day and turned in a lackluster performance. His barn is on a mission and after talking with him last night there might be some more claims to come.

Race #7 – #6 – Hope’s Frog Song – 1 1/16 on the turf

This mare took a big step forward and grabbed the lead a jump or two as they entered the stretch. She looked as game as they come and was gunned down in a four horse blanket photo  by School Board Prez facing older for the first time and is a perfect 4/4 at BtP. – She is getting better with every effort, and is one to follow right back to the windows.
