BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Tax / #4 – Haikal / #2 – Tacitus

#1 Tax is a son of Arch for the Danny Gargan barn with Junior Alvarado in the irons. This gelded son of Arch should be up close and settle nicely. His victory in the G3 Withers was better than appeared as he stumbled and still hung in to win. Alvarado is rolling to the winner’s circle at a 24% clip at Aqueduct. #4 Haikal comes from the barn of Kiaran McLaughlin with Rajiv Maragh in the driver’s seat. He is looking for his 4th straight win and 3rd off the layoff for this stone cold closer. He may be maturing at the right time and I’m looking for a strong effort. #2 Tacitus is a son of Tapit for Bill Mott. He’s a perfect stalker and should enjoy the added ground. 2nd start of the year and 2nd time Lasix where Mott wins 20% on the medication change.

Keeneland

Race #10 – The G2 Bluegrass – 1 1/8 – 6:23 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2 – Vekoma / #8 – Win Win Win / #11 – So Alive

#2 Vekoma exits the G2 Fountain of Youth off a less than ideal trip. They switch riders from Manny Franco to Javier Castellano and he is the new ‘money man.’ 2nd time Lasix for this son of Candy Ride for George Weaver and he should get a perfect stalking trip. He is lightly raced and deserves serious consideration before making a wager. The barn wins 25% on the medication move and the rider change is a positive sign. #8 Win Win Win is a son of Hat Trick for the Mike Trombetta barn. He was a beaten favorite in the Tampa Bay Derby rolling 5 wide and shows a red hot work. Irad Ortiz back in the saddle and that moves his chances up greatly. #11 So Alive is a son of Super Saver and is a bit of an outside shooter. He is lightly raced and has the services of Luis Saez in the saddle. He can easily pick up his head and come rolling for minor awards today.

Santa Anita

Race #8 – The G1 Santa Anita Derby – 1 1/8 – 6:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Game Winner / #5 – Instagrand / #3 – Nolo Contesto

#6 Game Winner is a monster son of Candy Ride. Joel Rosario has the call for Bob Baffert and they were getting to them late in the G2 Rebel getting beat a dirty nose. Overall, he didn’t have to win the race and use all his gas, but he looked terrific just picking them up late in the lane. I think he is a good looking colt and it looks like Team Baffert is loaded again. His race to lose at Santa Anita. #5 Instagrand is a speedy son of Into Mischief and Flavien Prat will be calling the shots. He is lightly raced and owns some sparkling works at Los Al in preparation for this big race. If he gets loose and can go the distance he may play a perfect role of the spoiler. #3 Nolo Contesto is a perfect stalker who had an eventful trip last out. He’s gonna need his A game against this compact field as Joe Talamo picks up the action in the saddle. The added ground won’t hurt and Talamo has sprung his fair share of upsets.

#5 Restless Rider is a daughter of Distorted Humor exiting the BC Juvenile Fillies finishing a solid second. She is 3 for 3 ITM at CD and drops down from G1 company to face an impressive group of ladies. She’s a strong closer for trainer Ken McPeek, and he has said nothing but sweet things about this gal. There should be a solid pace and she’ll mow them down with B.J. Hernandez in the irons. #8 Break Curfew comes in for the Chad Brown barn under Javier Castellano. She wired the field in her debut and was very impressive. She stretches out to two turns and should show the way down the backstretch. If she duplicates her last effort she could be extremely dangerous. #1 Gold Credit is a daughter of Goldencents for Ignacio Correas winning 33%. She won going 7f at Keeneland and had an eventful trip. The rail has been winning 18% and John Velasquez has the call. Correas wins 18% with his graded stakes runners.

Race #11 – The G2 Kentucky Jockey Club – 1 1/16 – 5:56 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Signalman / #13 – Knicks Go / #7 – Limonite

#1 Signalman hails from the KenMcPeek barn with B.J. Hernadez in the irons. The rail has been the place to be and locks horns against Knicks Go once again. “Knicks” should be flying from the gate once again and Signalman is 2 for 2 ITM at CD and goes third time Lasix. I like his chances today as he looks to turn the tables. He will come calling late in the lane. #13 Knicks Go is a son of Paynter for trainer Ben Colebrook. Two back he shocked Keeneland winning the G1 Breeders’ Futurity at boxcar odds. He has a quick turn of foot and ever since he came off the synthetic in Chicago he has matured nicely. If left alone he could turn out the lights quickly. #7 Limonite is a son of Lemon Drop Kid and was a beaten chalk last out at CD. This is a jump up the class ladder and he looks to be a nice runner. He may be that perfect addition to your exotics.

His 9 for 10 ITM on the sod is impressive, and this horse is a deep closer. He is 2 for 2 ITM at the distance; look for Bravo rolling at the top of the lane. #1 Caribou Club hails from the Thom Proctor barn with Joe Talamo in the irons. He is 3 for 4 ITM at the distance and stretches out from 6 1/2f to 1 1/16. He’s been off for 57 days and Proctor wins 18% with his turf runners. He likes Del Mar and I’m looking for a big effort coming off the shelf. #2 Big Score is a son of Mr. Big for trainer Tim Yakteen. BetPTC.com Selections / #6 Diversify / #2 Backyard Heaven / #4 Mind Your Biscuits

#6 Diversify is a son of Bellamy Road with Irad Ortiz as the reinsman. He is one for one at the Spa and cuts back from a mile and a quarter. He should be right there having a major say in the pace of the race. His bullet work shows all systems are go.

#2 Backyard Heaven comes in for the Chad Brown barn. He’s a beaten chalk from the G1 Stephen Foster and he’s been away for 49 days. His races are always an honest effort and I’m looking for a big move forward with a sharp and fresh runner today.

#4 Mind Your Biscuits is a talented son of Posse. He’s 3 for 5 ITM at Saratoga, and just got beat in the G1 Metropolitan last out. Joel Rosario in the saddle and he’ll have his high cruising speed in top gear as they turn for home.

Mountaineer

Race #8 – The G3 West Virginia Derby – 1 1/8 – 5:35 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 Once On Whiskey / #2 Draft Pick / #8 Mr. Freeze

#5 Once On Whiskey is a son of Bodemeister making his second off the layoff move. Trainer Bob Baffert had him cranked up in the Los Al Derby going to the winner’s circle. He has the hot reinsman Flavien Prat aboard, and his connections win 33% with shippers.

#2 Draft Pick got beat in the Los Al Derby for trainer Peter Eurton. Ever since the spring he appears to be putting it all together. Eurton wins 19% with graded stakes and has a sharp work coming into the race. He should be right at the front calling the shots under the guidance of Joe Talamo.

#8 Mr. Freeze hails from the barn of Dale Romans with Robby Albarado in the irons. He was 3 wide rolling late in the Iowa Derby and needed a little more distance. The added ground today may fit with some solid pace, and look for him to come calling in the final furlong.

#5 Dream Maker is a son of Tapit for trainer Mark Casse. Julien Leparoux is the reinsman and they score 23% as a team. His only effort was a stout move circling the field at Churchill. He gets an extra furlong to run and has a sharp workout over the track.

#1 Sombeyay hails from the Todd Pletcher barn with Javier Castellano in the irons. He’s had two eventful trips but his race in the Tremont was impressive. He stumbled at the start and came rolling late. He sports a bullet work over the deep Saratoga training course putting the final touch on his preparation.

#7 Bano Solo is a son of Goldenscents from the Steve Asmussen barn. His sire fires 16% first time winners and did not disappoint at Churchill. His workout pattern has been sharp and I’m looking for a top effort.

Race #10 – G1 Diana Stakes – 1 1/8 on the turf – 6:18 pm EDT

#6 A Raving Beauty is a daughter of Mastercraftsman for trainer Chad Brown. Irad Ortiz in the saddle and they score at a high percentage as a team. She rolled off two wins at Belmont and the German bred should be forwardly placed with a tactical rider calling the shots. She’ll give them all they want.

#2 Proctor’s Ledge has Jose Ortiz in the driver’s seat for trainer Brendan Walsh. A daughter of Ghostzapper who is 2 for 2 over the course and finished a solid place effort in the G1 Just A Game at Belmont. She loves the course and has some solid works under her belt.

#9 Dabster has Flavien Prat in the saddle for trainer Bob Baffert. This son of Curlin is 2 for 3 with wins and comes off a long layoff effort in the G2 San Carlos. He should be in mid pack and has a record of 1 for 1 at Del Mar.

Saratoga

Race #8 – G2 Lake Placid – 1 1/8 on the turf – 4:49 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #6 – Uni / #3 – La Coronel / #4 – Proctor’s Ledge

#6 – Uni = Irad Ortiz aboard for Chad Brown winning (31%) the past few months. They bring a talented gal who shipped over from France in May. – Uni got Lasix for her first trip in the states, and the barn wins (18%) with medication. Her first time out had her closing stoutly against New Money Honey. She gets her 2nd trip to the races and cuts back in distance from 1 1/4 – 1 1/8. Her two morning works are sharp and signal readiness to perform. #3 – La Coronel = Florent Geroux in the irons for Mark Casse. This daughter of Colonel John ships back from Royal Ascot off a 5th place finish in the Gr.1 Coronation Stakes. She’s been on the shelf for 57 days and is 1/1 at the Spa. Her work on 8/11 shows she is ready for a prime effort. #4 – Proctor’s Ledge = Javier Castellano in the saddle exiting a G3 Lake George win. This daughter of Ghostzapper is moving up the class ladder and has plenty of solid races to build upon. This is her 2nd time with Lasix and trainer Brendan Walsh wins (23%) with this addition.

 Race #9 – G1 Alabama – 1 1/4 – 5:22 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #7 – Elate / #1 -New Money Honey / #6 – Salty

#7 – Elate = Jose Ortiz aboard for Bill Mott and was closing with a strong late kick in the G1 Coaching Club Oaks last out.She was kept in tight down the lane and denied any clear sailing to get rolling. Ortiz is winning (20%) at the meet and (21%) with the Mott barn. She’s been training well and looks to be ready for a top-notch effort. #1 – New Money Honey = Javier Castellano in the irons for Chad Brown and they get their picture taken (26%) as a team the past few months. She’s been a tuff turf runner and the barn makes the turf – dirt switch where they score (30%) on the move. You have to respect Brown’s choice, and if she takes to the main track it could be a long day for the other ladies. #6 – Salty = Tyler Gafflione for Mark Casse and they exit the G1 Coaching Club Oaks. She was heavily bet and leapt into the air prior to the start. The bullet work and a clean trip could have her right in the mix at the top of the lane.

Del Mar

Race #8 – G1 Pacific Classic – 1 1/4 – 8:30 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #8 – Arrogate / #2 – Collected / #4 – Sorry Erik

#8 – Arrogate = Mike “Money Man” Smith in the saddle for Bob Baffert winning (42%) the past 60 days. His last effort has the racing world scratching their head after the G2 San Diego Handicap. I’m tossing out the race as a clunker or a delayed Dubai World Cup victory jinx after winning the race at Meydan. His record is 8/9 ITM and even the great ones strike out. Baffert kept her close in California and he’s been training lights out. I’m looking for a big effort that will have us talking about events in the next few months.  #2 – Collected = Martin Garcia for Bob Baffert. He could be an insurance “rabbit” to keep the pace honest to set up Arrogate. This son of City Zip is a tough customer looking for his 4th victory in a row. #4 – Sorry Erik = Kent Desormeaux for his brother Keith. They enter off a win in an O.C. $75k on the turf and I’m going back two races where he faced Irap and Girvin. This has been a key move as runners who locked horns with them have come back to run very well.

Race #10 – G1 Del Mar Oaks – 1 1/8 on the turf – 9:30 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #12- Beau Recall / #10- Dream Dancing / #5 – Con Te Partino

#12 – Beau Recall = Joe Talamo in the saddle for Simon Callaghan. Ships back from Belmont in the G1 Belmont Oaks where she finished 6th. She is 5/7 ITM on the turf and has been training lights out. Cuts back from 1 1/4 – 1 1/8 and will come calling late in the lane under the strong urging of Talamo. #10 – Dream Dancing = Julien Leparoux in the driver’s seat for Mark Casse. Daughter of Tapit is 6/8 ITM on the turf and was caught wide last out in the G3 Lake George. Leparoux fits her well and he’ll be moving late in the lane off two blistering works over the Saratoga turf. #5 – Con Te Partino = Flavien Prat for trainer Wesley Ward. She ships back from Royal Ascot off a win in the Sandringham Hcp and looks to continue with her 3rd start of the 2017 season. Ward would not be sending if he didn’t feel she’s ready and I’m looking for a solid effort in hopes of a Breeders’ Cup plan in her future.

BetPTC cash is king

Returns this Saturday!

BetPTC.com – Horses to Watch – 2/1/2016

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

If you watched the Holy Bull Stakes this Saturday, you caught a glimpse of the first runner with the WOW factor! Mohaymen destroyed the field over the Gulfstream oval, and as 2016 turns another page on the calendar. In think we have our first official clocker’s corner talk of the morning.  “He took my breath away,” McLaughlin said after the Tapit  colt made easy work of five rivals to draw clear in the Holy Bull Stakes, according to the Blood Horse.com. – But rest assured, there will be plenty more maturing just at the right time. Consider this the official start of great things to come. – In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for a few runners that are ready to step right back on the track and give a top effort.

Gulfstream Park

Race #3 – 1/30/16 – #4 – 7f on the dirt

#4 – Island Saint = This filly by Speightstown was handled by John Velasquez for Todd Pletcher.  – The only scrape on race was facing a very talented gal by the name of Cathryn Sophia. – Island Saint set the fractions, and appeared to be going very well. She was bested by a much better filly I think we’ll be hearing from down the road. – She should e a very solid player going 6f – 7f, and hopefully against just a bit softer competition.

Gulfstream Park

Race #5 – 1/30/16 – #6 – 1 mile on the turf

#6 – Life Imitates Art = Joel Rosario for the Chad Brown barn. – This colt looked to have good movement and was pushed out strongly at the 3/8th’s pole very wide most of the race. – He exited off a win in the G-3 Dania, and I’m going toss this race as a “clunker.” – The connections are red-hot, and with a little better trip it could be lights out down the lane.

Gulfstream Park

Race #7 – 1/30/16 – #1 – 7 1/2f on the turf

#1 – Taste for Talent = Corey Lanerie up for Joe Sharp, and this colt was flying from the clouds. He did nothing wrong, and had dead aim on the leader. – He ran out of real estate and an effort anywhere close has him in the winner’s circle.

Fair Grounds

Race #1 – 1/30/16 – #1 – 1 mile on the main track

#1 – K’s Got a Notion = Mitchell Murrill in the saddle, and he was forced to check his mount sharply just as they were making the run down the backstretch. Once the rider got his mount under restraint, he made a well recovered effort to finish in the money. – He’s been going short, and look for a cutback in distance next out.

PLAY THE FREE-TO-ENTER BIG GAME CONTEST AT BETPTC.COM

PLAY THE FREE-TO-ENTER BIG GAME CONTEST AT BETPTC.COM

Santa Anita

Race #8 – 1/30/16 – #3 – 6f on the main track

#3 – Tannersmymuscle = Joe Talamo had the call for Ron Ellis, and the colt broke awkwardly from the gate. Once settled, Talamo did an excellent job of getting him into position where he was forced to wait for a gap. – He finished up with energy and should be a handful next time out. – This was a first time claim for the Ellis barn and they win 27% with new runners, and 24% with beaten favorites. Add in 3/4 ITM over the course, and you’ll want to be first in line to make a bet.
