BetPTC.com Selections / #4 – Mitchell Road / #7 – In the Lee / #1 – I’m So Fancy

#4 Mitchell Road is a daughter of English Channel for Bill Mott. Joel Rosario is aboard and they’ve been off for three months. She is seeking her third straight and Rosario should send right to the front. She is 6 for 6 ITM and a solid candidate for the win. #7 In the Lee is a daughter of Tapit for Shug McGaughey. This is her 2nd start of the year and beaten chalk at Keeneland last out. Shug wins 26% coming back off a beaten favorite effort looking for payback. #1 I’m So Fancy comes from the barn of Arnaud Delacour with Florent Geroux in the saddle. She’s been off for 8 months and gets first time Lasix where the trainer wins 31%. She comes in from the Curragh in Ireland and Delacour wins at a solid clip with fresh runners.

Race #11 – The G3 Chick Lang – 6f – 4:42 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #8 – Preamble / #7 – Pyron / #3 – Malpais

#8 Preamble comes in for the Rodolphe Brisset barn. 2nd start of the year and has Florent Geroux in the saddle. He is a perfect 3 for 3 and cuts back to 6f. The barn wins 19% with graded stakes and 23% second time off the shelf. He’ll get a perfect stalking trip breaking from the outside. #7 Pyron hails from the barn of Steve Asmussen with his main rider Ricardo Santana in the saddle. This son of Candy Ride is a perfect 2 for 2 and ships in from Oaklawn stepping in class. Look for a stalking trip and Santana to hit the gas at the quarter pole. #3 Malpais comes from the Joe Sharp barn with Luis Saez in the driver’s seat. Ships in from Charles Town turning back in distance as he looks for his 3rd straight win. This son of Hard Spun has wicked speed and may be tough to catch.

Race #12 – The G2 Dixie Stakes – 1 1/16 on the turf – 5:39 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #12 – Catholic Boy / #11 – Inspector Lynlee / #5 – Have At It

#12 Catholic Boy is a son of More Than Ready with Javier Castellano in the saddle. He’s been off six months since the B/C Classic and sports two bullet works. He is 4 for 5 with wins on the sod and Castellano wins 24% on the grass. Look for a mid pack closing move around the turn. #11 Inspector Lynlee is a son of Lemon Drop Kid for Shug McGaughey. Jose Lezcano is the reinsman and exits a perfect prep winning at Aqueduct. He gets added ground and will launch a strong closing effort. #5 Have At It a son of Kitten’s Joy for Christophe Clement. He’s been vacationing the past five months and faced some tough guys last year. He’s a perfect stalker and Jose Ortiz in the irons is a real plus when they turn for home.

Churchill Downs

Race #9 – The G2 Golden Rod – 1 1/16 – 4:57 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Restless Rider / #8 – Break Curfew / #1 – Gold Credit

#5 Restless Rider is a daughter of Distorted Humor exiting the BC Juvenile Fillies finishing a solid second. She is 3 for 3 ITM at CD and drops down from G1 company to face an impressive group of ladies. She’s a strong closer for trainer Ken McPeek, and he has said nothing but sweet things about this gal. There should be a solid pace and she’ll mow them down with B.J. Hernandez in the irons. #8 Break Curfew comes in for the Chad Brown barn under Javier Castellano. She wired the field in her debut and was very impressive. She stretches out to two turns and should show the way down the backstretch. If she duplicates her last effort she could be extremely dangerous. #1 Gold Credit is a daughter of Goldencents for Ignacio Correas winning 33%. She won going 7f at Keeneland and had an eventful trip. The rail has been winning 18% and John Velasquez has the call. Correas wins 18% with his graded stakes runners.

Race #11 – The G2 Kentucky Jockey Club – 1 1/16 – 5:56 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Signalman / #13 – Knicks Go / #7 – Limonite

#1 Signalman hails from the KenMcPeek barn with B.J. Hernadez in the irons. The rail has been the place to be and locks horns against Knicks Go once again. “Knicks” should be flying from the gate once again and Signalman is 2 for 2 ITM at CD and goes third time Lasix. I like his chances today as he looks to turn the tables. He will come calling late in the lane. #13 Knicks Go is a son of Paynter for trainer Ben Colebrook. Two back he shocked Keeneland winning the G1 Breeders’ Futurity at boxcar odds. He has a quick turn of foot and ever since he came off the synthetic in Chicago he has matured nicely. If left alone he could turn out the lights quickly. #7 Limonite is a son of Lemon Drop Kid and was a beaten chalk last out at CD. This is a jump up the class ladder and he looks to be a nice runner. He may be that perfect addition to your exotics.

Del Mar

Race #7 – The G2 Seabiscuit – 1 1/16 on the turf – 6:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Synchrony / #1- Caribou Club / #2 – Big Score

#7 Synchrony is a son of Tapit for the Michael Stidham barn. Joe Bravo reunites after the G1 Shadwell Mile at Keeneland. He’s been off for 49 days and gets a drop in class. His 9 for 10 ITM on the sod is impressive, and this horse is a deep closer. He is 2 for 2 ITM at the distance; look for Bravo rolling at the top of the lane. #1 Caribou Club hails from the Thom Proctor barn with Joe Talamo in the irons. He is 3 for 4 ITM at the distance and stretches out from 6 1/2f to 1 1/16. He’s been off for 57 days and Proctor wins 18% with his turf runners. He likes Del Mar and I’m looking for a big effort coming off the shelf. #2 Big Score is a son of Mr. Big for trainer Tim Yakteen. He’s been off for 49 days since the G1 Shadwell Mile and has a sharp work to prepare for the race.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 8/23/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The wagering world had bankroll action on the G1 Alabama and G1 Pacific Classic. Elate scored in the 137th edition under the guidance of Jose Ortiz for Bill Mott. The G1 Pacific Classic set up as the “battle of the stablemates” as Collected set a reasonable pace besting Arrogate down the lane.  Last weekend was hardly the crown jewel of summer as Saratoga offers up the 148th running of the Travers / The Mid-Summer Derby this Saturday. – We still have a few days until post time, and here are some runners who you’ll need to keep on your radar screen. They may come right back and reward their loyal backers next time on the track. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!

8/19/17

Race #5 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6f – #6 – Variant Perception

#6 – Variant Perception = This was a 1st-time starter by Curlin for the Chad Brown barn. His dam Mystery Trip has 5 winners from 5 starters and came in off some good works. – He broke in the air prior to the start and brushed leaving the starting gate.  Brown will have him ready for the races next up and wins at a solid clip 2nd trip out.

Race #6 – Alw $85,000 – 1 1/8 on the main – #5 – Hookup

#5 – Hookup = Manny Franco in the saddle and this son of Union Rags has been away from the races for 8 months. – He was knocked around the start and was taken out of stride. After being forced into another, Franco picked up the action and made a solid bid finishing up to be third this day.

Race #9 – G1 Alabama Stakes – 1 1/4 on the main – #1 – New Money Honey

#1 – New Money Honey = This was her first time on the dirt and has been a turf monster. She was looking three-in-a-row and her 3rd off the shelf. – Javier Castellano in the irons and Chad Brown the conditioner (33%). She was in tracking mode and forced to steady and tap on the breaks at the 1/4 pole weakening down the lane.

Saratoga

8/20/17

Race #5 – Mdn Sp Wt – 1 1/16 on the turf – #5 – Lemoona

#5 – Lemoona = Two-yr-old filly by Lemon Drop Kid, and she has the breeding that suggests she’ll relish the turf. – She was sandwiched and slammed leaving the starting gate. Junior Alvarado did a great job-saving ground and was forced to sweep 5 wide at the 1/4 pole making a late bid for 2nd money.

Race  #9 – $100,000 Summer Colony – 1 1/8 on the main – #4 – Romantic Vision

#4 – Romantic Vision = Javier Castellano in the saddle for Rusty Arnold. She’s been away from the races for 60 days since Churchill Downs and had a couple of works over the deep Oklahoma training track. This was not her day at all as she stumbled badly at the start, took up and bumped. After all this action she never regained her momentum and called it a day. Look for her to return at this level of the upper stratosphere of the allowance ranks.

Race #1 – Claiming – 5f on the main – #8 – Scotch is My Candy

#8 – Scotch is My Candy = Carson Sullivan in the irons for John Alexander Ortiz (22%). This daughter of Sidney’s candy was shipping in from Indiana Grand. She was taking a huge plunge in class and the barn is 9/9 ITM at the meet. She was off slow at the start and was forced to rush up quickly making a strong bid this day. The barn is solid and she’ll get it together next out.

Race #6 – O.C. $25,000 – 1 mile on the turf – #9 – In the Shoes

#9 – In the Shoes = Very solid gal coming off a win at BtP, and trainer Donna Taylor is winning (30%) at the meet. This daughter of Congrats ran into a little trouble during the race and was forced to check twice into the far turn and fanned six wide. After all the activity, rider Dick Cardenas got her rolling late and made a powerful late bid to be a bridesmaid this day. A little bit of racing luck and she’ll be getting a trip to the winner’s circle.
