Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer
Summer gave most of the country a last blast of heat and humidity. The sweltering heat will soon be replaced by cool winds and nature’s foliage show. There are less than 40 days until the Breeders’ Cup sets up shop at Del Mar and we’ll see the best-of-the-best lock horns and do battle. Until then, here are some runners to keep on your radar. Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!
Race #3 – G3 Noble Damsel – 1 mile on the turf
#2 – Sassy Little Lila = Daughter of Artie Schiller and bred to relish the turf. She was making her 2nd start after facing the boys in the G2 Four Star Dave. She grabbed the lead and did nothing wrong this day. She caught a much tougher gal in Off Limits and will give them fits next out. I am keeping her at the top of my list as this was a winning effort running 2nd.
Race #10 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6f on the turf
#10 – Lutheran Rags = Son of Union Rags for the Christophe Clement barn making his 2nd lifetime start. The barn wins 18% on this move and he rolling 4 wide into the lane showing a strong late kick. This race was a promising effort for next time out.
Race #1 – Claiming – 6f on the main
#4 – Doggerwinii = 2nd start off the layoff and this daughter of Maltese Dog showed very good early speed. She stretched out from 5 1/2f to 6f and shipped in from Indiana Grand. She was squeezed at the start and still managed to take the lead. A clean trip gets her in the winner’s circle.
Race #3 – Mdn Claiming – 7f on the main
#1 – Something Bird = 3rd off the shelf for the Mike Tomlinson barn. Son of Birdstone dropped down the class ladder (27%) and drew the red-hot rail post. He was caught in tight and forced to check up sharply. He managed to get back on task and grab the show dough this day.
Race #5 – Claiming – 1 mile on the main
#5 – Lookin at Grace = Daughter of Lookin at Lucky and was making the turf – dirt switch (25%) for the William Brumley barn. She dropped down in class and had an awkward start. She circled the field quickly but was very wide the entire race.
Race #7 – Allowance – 6f on the main
#7 – Conundrum Red = Filly by Trappe Shot for the Doug Cowans barn. 2nd start off the layoff and she won easily under wraps by 7 1/4 on this day. She was on the wrong lead and still moved with fluent motion. – I’m keeping this little lady on the short list to follow right back.
