With all of the early speed, the rail trip may work out nicely. #4 Bankit comes to post for trainer Steve Asmussen with Irad Ortiz in the saddle. He has blistering speed and will be pushed from the gate break. The one turn mile should fit his style and with a cleaner trip, he could be a handful on the front end. #3 Strive for a Cure is a son of Goldencents for trainer Dale Capuano. He is 1 for 1and has a quick turn of late foot. Stretching out from 6 1/2f to a mile combined with the early speed should have him motoring down the lane.

Her dam Kibara has 6 starters / 6 winners / 6 turf winners to her credit. Since coming across the pond she seems to be enjoying Lasix and the grass racing. This course may be to her liking.

Race #8 – G3 Ladies Sprint – 6 1/2f on the turf – 5:57 pm EDT

#6 Lull is a daughter of War Front and 2 for 2 with wins over the KyD course. Christophe Clement is the conditioner and has B.J. Hernadez in the saddle. Runners that like the track usually come back and show a good effort. She comes in off a solid effort in the G2 Royal North at Woodbine. She’s in perfect shape heading back to Kentucky and was sprinting 6f last out and gets added distance this day. #7 Originator hails from the Ian Wilkes barn with Jose Ortiz in the driver’s seat. She is a daughter of Artie Schiller and is 5 for 6 ITM on the greensward. She’s a closer and Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace. I really like her chances today. #1 Brielle’s Appeal is a speedy filly by English Channel who’s going to grab the lead for trainer Al Stall. She has been away for 47 days at Saratoga and could be a handful if turned loose from the gate break.

Delaware Park

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Elate / #3 – Mopotism / #5 – Unbridled Mo

Race #9 – G2 Delaware Handicap – 1 1/4 – 5:35 pm EDT

#6 Elate is a daughter of Medaglia d’ Oro for the Bill Mott barn. Mott does well with layoffs as she comes in off an eight month layoff. She was a beaten favorite last out in the BC Distaff, and Mott wins 19% with fresh runners. There’s a ton of speed in here, and with Jose Ortiz in the irons. She’ll be close stalking just off the pace keeping eye on the leaders. She’s a solid gal going 8 for 10 ITM lifetime and 1 for 1 over the course.

#3 Mopotism is a daughter of Uncle Mo for Reddam Racing Llc. Doug O’Neill and Mario Gutierrez team up as she makes her third race off the shelf. Her last effort in the G2 Fleur De Lis at Churchill showed good promise as she looks to seal the deal today.

#5 Unbridled Mo is trained by Todd Pletcher and has the services of John Velasquez in the saddle. They win 39% as a team and she makes her 2nd start off a layoff dropping in class. She’ll come rolling late as Johnny V knows just when to push the button.

Indiana Grand

Race  #8 – G3 Indiana Oaks – 1 1/16 – 9:01 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Talk Veuve to Me / #7 – Skeptic / #6 – Kelly’s Humor

#5 Talk Veuve to Me comes to post for Rodolphe Brisset who was a longtime assistant to Bill Mott. She exits the G1 Acorn off a game effort against Monomoy Girl and gets added distance to dictate the pace. Julien Leparoux in the irons and she should be tough to reel in.

#7  Skeptic is the daughter of Tiznow for trainer Rusty Arnold. The barn is one for one at Indy and has the look of a midpack stalker. B.J. Hernadez Jr. in the driver’s seat and she moves up in class off two straight wins. This is the acid test she’s been wanting.

#6 Kelly’s Humor is a daughter of Midnight Lute for trainer Brad Cox. In a race filled with speed, this could set up her plans stalking just off the pace. Florent Geroux in the driver’s seat and that moves her chances up greatly.

Indiana Grand

Race #9 – G3 Indiana Derby – 1 1/16 – 9:48 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #8 King Zachary / #9 Funny Duck / #4 Dark Vader

#8 King Zachary should heavily supported at the windows from the Dale Romans barn. This son of Curlin has looked like a new runner since a dismal effort in the Wood Memorial. The way Robby Albarado guided him to victory in the G3 Matt Winn at Churchill Downs was impressive. He’s on the improve and is poised to pounce in the 24th edition of the Indiana Derby.

#9 Funny Duck comes in off a 4th place finish in the G3 Matt Winn. It was blistering hot that night and was forced to steady at the start. Let’s toss that as a bad night. Rusty Arnold is the conditioner with B.J. Hernandez Jr. in the saddle. He ran 4th last out and I’m looking for some big improvement today. His race record the last four is one good and one bad. Maybe it’s time to fire off a big effort.

#4 Dark Vader is the son of Tale of Ekati for trainer Peter Eurton. This Ohio bred ran a big race in the Easy Goer getting beat a neck after bobbling at the start. He’s a good stalker making his 3rd off the layoff. He has a sharp morning work at Santa Anita preparing for this race and seeing a huge effort would not surprise me at all.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 10/15/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The last big weekend is in the books and the countdown to the Breeders’ Cup has officially started. At the time of this post, there are less than 21 days. You’ll want to keep tabs on final workouts, shipping schedules and the overall health reports you’ll find in many Thoroughbred publications. The summer is over and the races are in the books. Now is the time to keep on top of your reading and combing over race replays. – In the meantime, here are some runners that may come right back and build your bankroll. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!

Belmont

10/7/17

Race #5 – Starter Allowance – 1 1/16 on the turf – #2 – King of Spades

#2 -King of Spades = Son of Street Cry who is 3/5 ITM at Belmont and cutting back from 1 1/4 to 1 1/16. He was dropping in class and had the services of Joel Rosario in the saddle. He was bumped soundly at the start and was pinched back. He got back on task and managed to finish 5th this day. – A cleaner trip has him right in the mix.

Race #8 – The G1 Champagne – 1 mile on the dirt – #4 – Enticed

#4 – Enticed = Son of Medaglia d’ Oro coming in off a strong maiden win. Kiaran McLaughlin trainee who ran green but still got the win at first asking. He owned a bullet work coming into the race and a solid work tab keeping all systems ready. He did an excellent job of tracking the pace but was shuffled into the 6 path at the top of the lane. It doesn’t take much to get a two-year-old off task and he put together a solid run finishing 3rd this day.

Race #9 – The G3 Hill Prince – 1 1/8 on the turf – #6 – Bricks and Mortar

#6 – Bricks and Mortar = Chad Brown trainee and a son of Giant’s Causeway. He was 2/2 at Belmont with wins and was a beaten favorite in the G3 Saranac at Saratoga. His late punch has been his calling card and Joel Rosario was in the saddle. – He was in tight after the break and forced to take up and steady. He made a good late run for the show dough and will be heard from next out with a little cleaner start.

Race #11 – Allowance – 1 1/16 on the turf – #4 – Minsky Moment

#4 – Minsky Moment = Chad Brown runner with Irad Ortiz in the saddle. This son of Flatter has been heavily bet the last 5 of 6 starts and has yet to run on the turf. His breeding suggests he should relish the sod and Ortiz win 18% on the greensward. He was bottled up around the far turn and was forced to tap on the brakes a few times. He tipped off the rail and made a strong late kick weaving in and out of traffic.

Keeneland

10/7/17

Race #5 – The G2 Woodford – 5 1/2f on the turf – #1 – Conquest Panthera

#1 – Conquest Panthera = Robby Albarado in the saddle for Mark Casse. They were dropping in class and cutting back from 1 mile to 5 1/2f. This son of Kitten’s Joy has faced some tough runners and the sprint this day was coming off his 3rd off the layoff – 17%. He broke slowly from the gate and saved ground the entire trip. Albarado tipped off the rail and made a strong late challenge finishing a very game 4th place.

Race #7 – The G1 First Lady – 1 mile on the turf – #3 – Dona Bruja

#3 – Dona Bruja = Declan Cannon in the irons for Ignacio Correas. She exited the 1 3/16 G1 Beverly D and was a beaten favorite that day. Ever since coming in from Argentina she has looked better with every effort. She is 11/11 ITM on the turf and was turning back to a flat mile. – She kicked going 6 wide and made a strong late run. Maybe a little more ground would be to her liking and if she gets the right distance she will come rolling late in the lane.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 1/16/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

Thoroughbred racing is starting to kick up as 2017 is in full swing. The winter ovals are running and the marquee races are starting to pop-up every weekend. – Oaklawn, Gulfstream, Fair Grounds, Santa Anita, Tampa Bay Downs, and “The Big A” Aqueduct.  Just keep your eyes peeled as it’s just a matter of time before the road to the Derby starts to sort itself out. It’s never too early to get your bankroll going, and here are some runners who are sure to make your day a winner. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Gulfstream Park

1/14/17

Race #2 – #6 – Powerful Instinct – 1 1/8 on the turf

Luis Saez rode a perfect race and did everything but win. At the 1/4 pole Saez tipped off the rail and went six wide. He finished with a flourish weaving through the field getting the second prize this day.

Race #3 – #6 – Run and Go – 6f

First timer from the Pletcher barn and Javier Castellano did a masterful job guiding this daughter of Union Rags. She drew off to an easy 4 length victory with the greatest of ease and she’ll only get better off this effort. She deserves a play back off this impressive win.

Race #6 – #8 – Dickinson – 1 1/16 on the turf

Shipped in from Belmont Park after a two month break. Daughter of Medaglia d’ Oro who is 2/2 over the sod. Moved up in company this day to the (G-3) Marshua’s River, and John Velasquez had her in perfect position. She was forced to steady at the top of the lane, and gathered her composure to finish a strong 4th place effort for McLaughlin barn.

Turfway Park

1/14/17

Race #1 – #3 – Stormy Mission – 6f on the AW

Stumbled badly at the break and rushed up and grabbed the lead to show the way by two lengths. John McKee tried to settle his mount but came up a little short down the lane.

Race #2 – #6 – Devil Alert – 6f on the AW

John McKee in the saddle for Dan O’Hallaron barn. She was sent off the odds-on favorite and didn’t give a strong performance as a closer picking up the pace. She managed a fourth place effort, and maybe “The Devil” will do better going 6 1/2f or getting a red-hot pace to close into.

Race #7 – #3 – Porter Street -1 mile on the AW

First time starter from the Wesley Ward barn. Alonso Quinonez was off a beat slow and clung to the rail saving ground. At the 1/4 pole he was forced to tap on the breaks stopping his momentum and still managed to finish with a very string effort to get bested at the wire.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 7/25/16

The sweltering heat of the summer is no comparison to the racing action that is taking place. As Saratoga and Del Mar roll out the big guns,  the smaller ovals are offering up red-hot Thoroughbred action to keep you on the edge of your seat as well. – This is the best part of summer, and it won’t last forever.  – Grab your shades and sunblock and head out to the races. There will be plenty of time to hunker-down in your man cave when the cool winds of winter blow. But until then, enjoy the best that Mother Nature has to offer. – Here are some runners from this past weekend who deserve a good hard look next time out. They may not have had the best of trips, and that means they’ll be worth a good play at fair odds next time out. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Saratoga

7/23/16 – Race #2 – #7 – 1 1/16 on the turf

#7 – Our Stormin Norman = Julien Leparoux in the irons, and his mount was bumped soundly and squeezed back at the start. This son of Blame will have much more to offer with a cleaner trip and hopefully the odds board will be very kind for some payback.

7/23/16 – Race #3 – #4 – 6f on the dirt

#4 – Bronson = John Velasquez in the saddle for Todd Pletcher. This was the (G-3) Sanford Stakes, and this son of Medaglia d’ Oro broke his maiden at Monmouth Park in fine fashion as he stepped up the ladder. – It was a compact field of five and he was pinched back at the start and never got back into stride. – Team Pletcher will work out the kinks, and you can bet he’ll receive some strong gate work to have him ready to roll.

7/23/16 – Race #10 – #7 – 1 1/8 on the turf

#7 – Recepta = Johnny Velasquez was the pilot and his filly came in 1/1 (ITM) over the Saratoga strip. She was three wide on the first turn, three wide on the far turn, and four wide into the stretch to be beaten by a nose. – She had a great sightseeing trip of The Spa, and dollars to donuts next out she’ll be more focused on getting her picture taken.

7/24/16 – Race #4 – #8 – 6 1/2 f on the dirt

#8 – Grassarla = Luis Saez in the saddle for Chris Englehart. This daughter of Bluegrass Cat was 2nd in her first attempt getting off slowly brushing against the gate upon leaving. – She was the odds-on favorite this day and had the same troubles when they sprung the latch. Saez did his best to help her overcome the tardy beginning, but it was just too much to overcome. – If she comes out clean, you may cash at a very handsome price.

7/24/16 – Race #6 – #3 – 1 1/16 on the turf

#3 – Llanita = Irad Ortiz had the call for Chad Brown, and this daughter of Rock of Gibraltar is bred to love the greensward. – Since she shipped in from France last September, she has been a fast closing machine. Her connections are red-hot and it is only a matter of time before she sees the winner’s circle.

7/24/16 – Race #11 – #4 – 1 mile on the turf

#4 – Romans Paradise = Javier Castellano was aboard, and this was his second start of the year. He is 2/2 (ITM) at Saratoga and was taken up sharply to avoid running up on the heels of rank horses. Once he found clear sailing, he was a day late and a dollar short getting his momentum rolling. – Maybe a little better trip may be just what the doctor ordered.

BetPTC.com – Horses to Watch – 2/23/2016

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

Can you feel the days getting longer by the minute and the stakes races drawing closer ? – Me too ! – This time of year has every horse player sitting on the edge of their seats waiting to see the next marquee race unveiling great things to come. At the time of this post there are only 75 days until we’ll be watching the 142nd renewal of The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports ! – But don’t jump the gun just yet, here are some runners you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled the next time they take the track. They are worth a good hard look, and a nice piece of your wagering bankroll.

Gulfstream Park

Race #3 – 2/15/16 – #2 – 7f on the dirt

#2 – Twenty in One = Closed very fast down the lane under the guidance of Rafael Hernandez in a 3/4 time of 109.2. – She caught a “speed fest” on this day, and anything that isn’t as salty should fit her like a glove for the Tomlinson barn.

Gulfstream Park

Race #7 –  2/15/16 – #11 – One mile on the turf

#11 – Purely Bay = J.J. Castellano had the call and his runner was making a “second off the layoff” run. Castellano knew he couldn’t catch the leaders as he weaved through traffic trying to save ground, but his dead last explosive run may be just what handicappers could expect next out. Looked like he had plenty in the tank wrapped up, and that may work out well for the punters.

Santa Anita

Race #1 – 2/15/16 – #4 -One mile mdn turf event

#4 – Lucy De = Santiago Gonzalez had the assignment for Mike Puype, and did absolutely nothing wrong. – This may be a case a running a “winner’s race” but not getting your picture taken. This was a very strong effort, and they were bested by the (1-2) chalk getting nailed at the wire by a head. – If Gonzalez stays aboard and Puype keeps to task, you’ll want to bet early and often when they enter.

Fair Grounds

Race #11- 2/20/16 – #2 – 1 1/16 on the main track

#2 – Mo Tom = Corey Lanerie was in the saddle for Thom Amoss, and this race was on the minds of every horse player that watched the Risen Star Stakes. – This son of Uncle Mo was far back in the field and didn’t move too early. Lanerie had two graded stakes to his credit this day, and the best was yet to come. He received a little urging and came off the rail briefly to pass tiring runners and dropped right back over to the fence. – Saving ground was a perfect move as he was starting to accelerate when Bistraya drifted over causing the colt to swerve and check sharply. Once Lanerie was in the clear they were inside the 1/8th pole when his mount picked up his action and started to close strongly. – Distance shouldn’t be a problem, and if all things come back fine. He’ll learn from this effort and only get better down the road.

Gulfstream Park

Race #5 – 2/21/16 – #8 – 1 mile on the turf

#8 – Akron Gold = Joel Rosario was named, but was on the shelf due to an injury. – J.J. Castellano picked up the mount, and this three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’ Oro was pushed out going into the first turn. She settled nicely after the losing some ground, and spun around the field at the 5/16th’s pole three wide. She drew off and looked like a winner, but was bested in the shadow of the wire. – All said and done, losing ground on the first turn and going wide as they approached the stretch may have been just enough to get beat this day. Hard to fault the connections as they few mistakes, so I’ll file this one under bet with both hands next out.
