#2 – Lil Miss Blueyes = Filly by Ice Box for the barn of Kenny McPeek has the services of Robby Albarado. She was making her second start off a three-month layoff and was a beaten favorite last out. The barn comes back to score 22% off this angle and she was eligible to move up making her second off a freshening. She was making a solid bid and was blocked badly at the 3/16th’s and never had a clear path. She’ll benefit from this race and come back and show better.

Race #7 – Allowance – 1 mile on the turf – #1 – Mongolian Greywolf

#1 – Mongolian Greywolf = Mitchell Murrill in the saddle and was exiting a solid effort at Kentucky Downs. This son of Paddy O’ Prado had been showing early speed and was under heavy restraint during the race forced to take off heels against the rail. Once he found clear sailing he managed a show effort this day.

Race #5 – Mdn Sp Wt – 1 mile on the turf – #9 – Analyze It

#9 – Analyze It = 1st time starter by Point of Entry for Chad Brown. Irad Ortiz was in the saddle and he was ultra-impressive in victory. He won by 6 1/4 and is regally bred to relish the turf. – Keep your eye on this Chad Brown runner.

Race #6 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6f on the turf – #5 – Tap Tap Taparoo

#5 – Tap Tap Taparoo = Filly is a 1st timer by Tapit. – Irad Ortiz for Rudy Rodriguez and she has a solid work clip. Her sharp works would catch your eye on paper, and watching her break dead last going 6f on the turf had me thinking about next time out. That was until she started moving at the 3/8th’s and 4 wide into the stretch rolling very quickly. She settled to be a bridesmaid but she’ll walk the aisle very soon.

Churchill Downs

Race #5 – Mdn Sp Wt – 1 mile on the main – #13 – Classy Act

#13 – Classy Act = She drew in off the AE list and was a beaten favorite her last two for the Bret Calhoun barn. – She was blocked badly two back for her initial effort at CD and was getting the outside post this day. – She broke game on the far outside and settled out nicely. During the race, she made a couple of moves to zero in the leaders and try to find her best stride. The outside post may have not been to her liking and next out could be graduation day.

Race #2 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6f on the turf – #5 – Solid

#5 – Solid = Manny Franco in the irons for the Kiaran McLaughlin barn. He is a son of Smart Strike and has the breeding to suggest he will relish the turf. – He was off slow from the start spotting the field extra ground. He made an excellent drive to get back in the game and made striking move splitting runners down the lane to be 3rd this day.

Race #4 – Mdn Sp Wt – 1 mile – #5 – Coal Truth

#5 – Coal Truth = A son of Mineshaft was making his 2nd career start for the Chad Brown barn (27%). He was a beaten favorite his first time out and going from a sprint to a route where Brown scores at a (32%) clip. – He made contact with some runners this day and the two-yr-old was squeezed back at multiple times. He ran third but was put up to 2nd as the result of a DQ. – Keep this race on your “key races” to watch runners who exit.

Race #9 – AOC – 1 1/16 on the turf – #2 – Vision Colors

#2 – Vision Colors = Speedster shipping back from Parx. This son of Pollard’s Vision loves Belmont going 10/11 ITM at “Big Sandy.” – Manny Franco in the irons and stumbled at the start and still managed to get to the lead and show the way. He led all the way and called it a day at the top of the lane. Maybe the distance was too much or it was the compromised beginning that caused him to use up his early speed.

Race #2 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6 1/2f on the turf – #4 – Shirl’s Ready

#4 – Shirl’s Ready = This son of More Than Ready was off four months coming in from CD. Ricardo Santana aboard and he looked to be heading for a big effort. – He sported a nice work at Ellis Park and shifted out and dug in gamely showing a very solid turn of late kick. He will most probably be heading back to CD and we’ll be looking there and possibly Keeneland for a trip over the greensward.

Race #4 – Mdn Sp Wt -6 1/2f on the turf –  #7 – Jolly Good

#7 – Jolly Good = Daughter of Paddy O’ Prado making her first start in just a shade over 4 months coming in from Keeneland. She is bred to relish the turf and was coming off a 6 1/2f effort on the dirt and getting her day on the undulating turf. – She was slow to begin and forced to steady. Her late kick was evident and she can easily stretch out in distance. Keep your eyes peeled for this gal.

Race #8 – KyD Ladies Sprint – 6 1/2f on the turf – #2 – Fair Point

#2 – Fair Point = 3rd start off the layoff for the daughter of Smart Strike. She was exiting some nice stake races in New York and getting added distance. BetPTC.com – Horse to Watch – 12/7/15

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

Weekends are filled with hours of football as the waiting game has officially started. You know, where we eagerly await the kickoff of the three-year-old season and the trail to the Kentucky Derby. At the time of this entry there are 152 days until the first Saturday in May. We’ll start making watch lists, and change our minds more than a few times. But that’s OK. – This is just the countdown. But good news is here ! – As we wait on the sidelines, there are some quality runners who’ve made their way onto the horses to watch list. You’ll want to keep your antennas up and ready to zero in on some solid wagering plays next out.

Aqueduct – 12/5/15 – Race #3 – #9 – One mile on the turf

#9 – King of Spades = Manny Franco had the call, and looked solid all the way around. At the top of the stretch when the real running began, he spun seven wide giving himself a tour of the parking lot. He did everything but win, and maybe with a little better navigation he’ll find himself saving a bit more ground on the way to the winner’s circle.

Aqueduct – 12/5/15 – Race #6 – #3 – 1 1/16 on the turf

#3 – In Trouble = Irad Ortiz was in the irons for this aptly named runner who tossed his head around at the start to give himself a poor beginning. He was a beaten favorite this day, and with a cleaner break and not going wide into the turn he’ll get some payback next time to the starting gate.

Aqueduct – 12/5/15 – Race #8 – #6 – 6f on the dirt

#6 – Princess Violet = Junior Alvarado had the not for Michael Hushion, and this mare had a tough trip all around. She was bumped around at the break and pinched back shortly after the start. After all said and done she mounted a solid effort to chase down the winner but ran out of real estate in the lane. – May the Racing Gods grant her clean passage next time out.

Turfway Park – 12/5/15 – Race #2 – #1 – One mile on the all-weather.

#1 – Golden Touch = Carlos Marquez Jr. had the nod for Mike Maker, and was tardy leaving the gate spotting the field some ground breaking dead last. He was slow into stride but his six-side move picking up ground rapidly gave players good things to watch for next time out. He was picking up ground very quickly and normally at Turfway Park coming from the clouds is not the path to the winner’s circle. Waiting for this runner to make his return to the races.

Turfway Park – Race #5 – #2 – 6f on the poly

#2 – Knee Pads = Orlando Mojica in the irons, and at first glance you would dismiss this son of Paddy O’ Prado. – He tossed the rider in the paddock an on the track. Maiden two-year-olds can be a handful, and at (8-1) on the morning line to be sent off at (4-1) shows there was a “buzz” about this first timer. I am looking for a jock change to a high profile rider, and I’ll bet you’ll see a big change in his effort learning from his first time to the races.

Tampa Bay Downs – 12/5/15 – Race #8 – #4 – 6f on the dirt

#4 – Sinister Blue = Antonio Gallardo had the call, and was fractious in the gate and stumbled badly leaving the starting gate. After a poor beginning, he mounted a solid bid and called it a day running an even 4th place effort. He was heavily backed at the windows and the public had good feelings for a big time effort. – A little cleaner trip may be more than what the doctor ordered.
