BetPTC.com Selections / #4 – Santa Monica / #2 – Fools’ Gold / #1- Empress of the Nile

#4 Santa Monica is a daughter of Mastercraftsman (IRE) for trainer Chad Brown with Irad Ortiz in the saddle. This is her 2nd off the layoff where Brown wins 25% and is two for two ITM at the Spa. She is a stout closer and had to steady sharply last out. She regained her momentum and finished a game third. Look for a strong finish by Ortiz down the lane. #2 Fool’s Gold is a daughter of Medaglia d’ Oro for Chad Brown and Javier Castellano. She is 2 for 2 ITM at the  Spa and won the G3 Waya last out. Her solid late kick will fit in with well with the distance. Castellano wins 23% on the greensward. #1 Empress of the Nile is a daughter of Pioneer of the Nile for trainer Graham Motion and Irad Ortiz. Motion is 4 for 6 ITM the past couple weeks as she makes a 3rd off the layoff move capped with a 7 wide late rally win last out. She is 2 for 3 ITM at Saratoga and Ortiz in the irons is ultra attractive.

Race #11 – The G1 Woodward – 1 1/8 – 6:00 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Yoshida / #3 – Vino Rosso / #9 – Tom’s d’Etat

#7 Yoshida is a son of Heart’s Cry (JPN) for trainer Bill Mott and Joel Rosario in the driver’s seat. 2nd off shipping in from Churchill Downs and his last effort in the G1 Whitney was strong. He is 2 for 2 ITM at the Spa and runners coming through Kentucky have been doing well at the Spa. Rosario fits and Mott is dangerous every time he saddles. He won this race last year on his way to the Breeders’ Cup. #3 Vino Rosso is a son of Curlin for trainer Todd Pletcher and Johnny V. Blinkers off today and the barn wins 23% on this equipment move. They are coming off a short 25 day layoff and Pletcher has a maturing runner looking for a sharp effort. #9 Tom’s d’ Etat is a son of Smart Strike for trainer Al Stall and Irad Ortiz. He’s a horse for the course going a perfect three for three at the Spa. Ortiz should have him up close leading the train. Ortiz wins 24% with early runners and has a solid win in the Alydar Stakes.

Del Mar

Race #7 – The G2 John C. Mabee – 1 1/8 on the turf – 8:00 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Vasilika / #9 – Elysea’s World / #4 – Toinette

#1 Vasilika is a daughter of Skipshot for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. She reunites with Flavien Prat and makes her 2nd off the layoff move. She was a beaten favorite in the G2 Yellow Ribbon and stretches out to a preferred distance where she’ll stalk mid pack and pounce. #9 Elysea’s World is a daughter of Champs Elysees (GB) making her 2nd off effort for Richard Baltas. She’s a stone cold closer and the added ground should be welcome. She’ll be in high gear turning for home. #4 Toinette is a daughter of Scat Daddy for trainer Neil Drysdale and Rafael Bejarano. She is 1 for 1 at Del Mar and gets added distance. This is her 2nd start of the year and is 5 for 6 with wins on the green. She’ll be stalking the speed and make a big run around the far turn. Bejarano wins 19% with stalking type runners.

Race #9 – The G1 Del Mar Debutante – 7f – 9:00 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Bast / #7 – Inspiressa / #2 – Comical

#5 Bast is a two yr old daughter of Uncle Mo for trainer Bob Baffert winning 25% with Drayden Van Dyke in the driver’s seat. They add blinkers today and that yields a 35% win clip for the barn. She was off slow last out and came flying four wide in the lane closing stoutly. The blinkers should keep her focused and stretching out in distance should be a real bonus. The rider and trainer have been five for five the past two weeks and owns a sharp work to have her ready. #7 Inspiressa hails from the barn of Peter Eurton with Joe Talamo in the irons. This daughter of Commissioner wins 33% with his firsters and she did not disappoint. She was forced out in the G2 Sorrento with 1st Lasix and second time Lasix gets a 29% win clip for the barn. She takes her game to the next level and I’m looking for a big effort. #2 Comical comes from the Doug O’Neill barn with Norberto Arroyo. 3rd off the shelf and this speedy gal should be dangerous with a new rider today. She should have a garden trip just off the leader and take over the engine down the backstretch. O’Neill wins 17% with his sprinters.

He’s been off for 55 days and is 13 for 16 ITM on the turf. A perfect stalker for Kent Desormeaux and he fires well off the shelf. #1 Kanthanka comes in for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. #5 United is a son of Giant’s Causeway for Dick Mandella. Flavien Prat gets the call as he makes his 3rd off the layoff. They are making the move to change riders to turf master Prat. He gets added distance and should stalk from just off the pace. #3 Marckie’s Water goes to post for Richard Baltas. This son of Tribal Rule is 6 for 10 ITM at Santa Anita and has proven himself going long. I’m looking for a solid stalking trip. #7 Ashelyluvssugar is a son of Game Plan for trainer Peter Eurton. This is a 3rd off the layoff effort for a versatile runner. He can grab the lead of lay just off the pace. Brice Blanc is the pilot and should be on the front at the gate break in this field.

#1 American Anthem hails from the barn of Bob Baffert. Mike Smith in the irons as they ship back from CD as a beaten favorite in Louisville on Derby weekend. This son of Bodemeister cuts back in distance where he is 5 for 5 ITM going 7f. Look for an up close effort under the guidance of Smith. #3 Law Abiding Citizen goes to post for trainer Mark Glatt. This son of Twirling Candy hasn’t run in 55 days and makes a turf to dirt switch. He won the G3 San Simeon and has some sharp morning works coming into the race. He will be forwardly placed at the gate break. #5 Nero is a son of Pioneer of the Nile for Bob Baffert. Drayden Van Dyke gets the nod and the colt has been working sharply. He’s been on the shelf for 55 days and I’m looking for an up close effort.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 5/31/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The second jewel in the Triple Crown gave players an excellent chance to play some new shooters. Always Dreaming opened up as the morning line favorite and Classic Empire was second choice. Going into the race it looked as if the Derby winner could notch another victory or Classic Empire could  show  why he was the two-year-old champ. – Classic Empire gave a good account, but the fresh legs of Cloud Computing  came calling late to win by more than a head. – If you didn’t hit the Preakness, no worries. The Belmont stakes will be up and around in three weeks ! – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Belmont

5/17/17

Race #2 – #5 – Initiate – 1 1/16 on the turf

Irad Ortriz in the saddle Shug McGaughey. This daughter of Pioneer of the Nile shipped up from Tampa Bay and has been off for 49 days. Ortiz grabbed the lead and did everything to perfection. He was beaten in the shadow of the wire and should improve greatly off this effort.

Belmont

5/20/17

Race #7 – #8 – Lull – 7f on the turf

Kendrick Carmouche in the saddle with a nice filly by War Front. She was getting 2nd time lasix and exited the G-3 Appalachian at Keeneland. The rider was in striking distance from the leader and lost the whip at the 1/16th pole. – She should do better next out and may reward her backers.

Race #8 – #10 – Tiz a Chance – 6f on the turf

Paco Lopez in the irons for Graham Motion. Forced to steady off heels at the 1/16th pole losing  momentum down the lane. The drop in class was a target race for Motion and this New York-bred is in good order to fire right back.

Belterra Park

5/20/17

Race #2 – #5 – Gloton – 1 1/16 on the main

Gabriel Lagunes in the saddle. Once the gate broke he was thrown in the air and his mount broke inward hitting the gate and went down. Unseating the rider and going down was tough, and he was the second betting choice this day. The horse and rider jumped right back up and this race is a toss out. Handicapper’s enjoy an angle like this as many cappers will dismiss him as a bad actor. Cross this race off and move forward. He’ll reward his backers.

Race #5 – #9 – Momma’s Gift – 4 1/2 f for two-year-old fillies

Apprentice Caroline Quast in the saddle and this filly was erratic to say the least. She was shipping in from Keeneland and went wide, ducked in, and finally dove to the rail  making a strong late bid. She needs a good playback and if the unseasoned apprentice is aboard she’ll get a square price.

Race #7 – #13 – Hurricane Bay – 1 mile and 70 yards on the main (off the turf)

John McKee in the irons for onwer / trainer Dan O’Hallaron. The Fairmount invader made a solid late bid hooking a runner who benfitted from a speed bias. “Hurricane” looks to be rouding into form and will pay dividends for players who back him. Fairmount runners do well over the track, and last year his barn did very well at Belterra making the trip.
