This is his 2nd off the layoff and three for five ITM over the course. He rallied strongly in last year’s edition and Ward wins 26% with his sprinters coming in fresh. #10 Totally Boss comes from the barn of Rusty Arnold and Florent Geroux has the call. 3rd off the shelf and was impressive in victory at Ellis Park last out. He should get a nice stalking trip and Geroux is off to a great start for the meet.

Race #8 – G-3 Three Chimneys Ladies Turf – 1 mile turf – 5:28 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Mitchell Road / #3 – Kallio / #2 – Simply Breathless

#7 Mitchell Road is a daughter of English Channel for Bill Mott and Joel Rosario in the saddle. She’s been off 56 days and exits the G1 Diana facing Sistercharlie. She cuts back in distance shipping in from Saratoga with some morning works to have her ready. Rosario will have her close to the pace as she runs extremely well coming off a layoff. #3 Kallio is a daughter of Scat Daddy with Tyler Gaffalione in the driver’s seat. She is 1 for 1 over the course and won in the shadow of the wire last out. Her dam Smokey Diplomacy has 7 starters, 6 winners, and 4 turf winners to her credit. #2 Simply Breathless comes in for Neil Drysdale and Florent Geroux. This daughter of Bated Breath (GB) has a solid late kick and exits Arlington off a beaten favorite effort. The barn wins 22% getting payback and Geroux loves the greensward winning 20%.

Remington Park september

Race #9 – The G-3 Ladies Sprint – 6 1/2f on turf – 6:01 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #9 – Tiny Tina / #3 – Oleksandra / #7 – Morticia

#9 Tiny Tina is a daughter of Paddy O’ Prado for Phil D’Amato with Jose Ortiz in the irons. She is shooting for her 4th in a row off a three month layoff. She ships in from SA and steps up in class for this event. Cutting back in distance and solid works make her a major danger. #3 Oleksandra is a daughter of Animal Kingdom for Neil Drysdale and Joel Rosario going to post. She won the Smart N Fancy last out and comes calling late in the lane for Rosario who wins 20% with closers. #7 Morticia is 3rd off the layoff for Rusty Arnold with Tyler Gaffalione in the driver’s seat. She was a beaten chalk last out facing Oleksandra and the barn comes back to score 33% looking to turn the tables.

Race #10 – The G-3 Kentucky Turf Cup – 1 1/2f on turf – 6:35 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Bigger Picture / #10 – Arklow / #9 – Zulu Alpha

#5 Bigger Picture comes to post for Mike Maker and Tyler Gaffalione in the saddle. He’s been off two months and ships in from the G1 United Nations. He finished a fast closing 2nd last year going the same route to Kentucky Downs. Tyler G is back aboard this closer who is 1 for 2 ITM in Franklin. #10 Arklow is a son of Arch for Brad Cox and Florent Geroux has the call. He’s 1 for 1 at KyD and makes a 2nd off effort coming in from the G2 Bowling Green. That was a strong move between runners and the rider and trainer have teamed up to be 5 for 8 ITM the past few weeks. #9 Zulu Alpha is a son of Street Cry (IRE) for Mike Maker and Jose Ortiz. He’s been knocking on the door owns a bullet work dropping in class. He is 4 for 5 ITM at the distance in the hands of an excellent reinsman.

Gulfstream Park

Race #8 – The G3 Rampart – 1 mile – 3:34 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Electric Forest / #3 – Tapa Tapa Tapa / #2 – Tweeting

#1 Electric Forest is a daughter of Curlin for the Chad Brown barn.  Jose Ortiz has the call and they are winning 20% as a team. She draws the rail and goes from a sprint to a route as the barn scores 30% on the move. She goes from 7f to a mile and is a perfect stalker. Her two wins from three races are strong and her only loss was a troubled trip leaving the gate. She’ll get a good seat along the rail and get in the action around the far turn. #3 Tapa Tapa Tapa gets the services of Javier Castellano for trainer Tim Hamm. She’s been off for 7 months and has been working bullets in the morning. Her last effort in the G3 Doubledogdare at Keeneland may be a good prep. She has tactical speed and gets a rider change to the high percentage Castellano. #2 Tweeting is a daughter of Uncle Mo for trainer Jorge Navarro winning 18%. Albin Jimenez gets the nod and has tons of early foot. She’s been off for two months and may improve going back to a route from 7f. This is her third off the layoff and moves up in class. Catch her if you can.

Race #9 – The G3 My Charmer – 1 mile on the turf – 4:05 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – La Moneda / #8 – Capla Temptress / #7 – Cherry Lodge

#6 La Moneda is a New York bred looking town 5th race from 6 starts. John Velasquez has the call for Thomas Morley and she’s a stone cold closer. There’s a change of riders to Johnny V and she’s been on the shelf for 56 days. She cuts back from 8.5 f to a mile and this may be what the doctor ordered. #8 Capla Temptress is a long range closer for trainer Bill Mott and “Jersey” Joe Bravo in the irons. She has not raced for two months and drops in class from the G1 QEII at Keeneland. She’s going to need a solid pace and the players look to give her a holiday wish. #7 Cherry Lodge is a stalker for the Todd Pletcher barn with Jose Ortiz in the driver’s seat. She has been off for 58 days and should go right to the lead under Ortiz who is one of the best speed riders in the nation. She is bred to carry the distance and can be dangerous if left alone.

Race #10 – The G3 Sugar Swirl – 6f – 4:36 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Dream Pauline / #4 – Stormy Embrace / #2- Awestruck

#7 Dream Pauline is a daughter of Tapit for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. She is 2 for 3 ITM with wins and comes in from CD after being forced to steady down the backstretch. 2nd start off the layoff and loves the distance going 3 for 3 ITM. She should sit back and get a great ride from Castellano and come calling late. #4 Stormy Embrace is a solid filly in the hands of Tyler Gaffalione winning 22%. She exits the BC Filly and Mare Sprint and tossed in a clunker. The drop in class should help her causes and 2nd off the layoff yields the Kathleen O’Connell barn 19% with her sprinters. I like her chances and I’m sure we’ll see good things down the road from this young lady. #2 Awestruck is a Rusty Arnold trainee with B.J. Hernandez in the irons. This is her 3rd off the shelf and she is 2 for 2 ITM over the GP oval. Look for Hernandez to come rolling late in the final furlong. She has a sharp work to prepare and can be  a major player today.

Delaware Park

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Elate / #3 – Mopotism / #5 – Unbridled Mo

Race #9 – G2 Delaware Handicap – 1 1/4 – 5:35 pm EDT

#6 Elate is a daughter of Medaglia d’ Oro for the Bill Mott barn. Mott does well with layoffs as she comes in off an eight month layoff. She was a beaten favorite last out in the BC Distaff, and Mott wins 19% with fresh runners. There’s a ton of speed in here, and with Jose Ortiz in the irons. She’ll be close stalking just off the pace keeping eye on the leaders. She’s a solid gal going 8 for 10 ITM lifetime and 1 for 1 over the course.

#3 Mopotism is a daughter of Uncle Mo for Reddam Racing Llc. Doug O’Neill and Mario Gutierrez team up as she makes her third race off the shelf. Her last effort in the G2 Fleur De Lis at Churchill showed good promise as she looks to seal the deal today.

#5 Unbridled Mo is trained by Todd Pletcher and has the services of John Velasquez in the saddle. They win 39% as a team and she makes her 2nd start off a layoff dropping in class. She’ll come rolling late as Johnny V knows just when to push the button.

Indiana Grand

Race  #8 – G3 Indiana Oaks – 1 1/16 – 9:01 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Talk Veuve to Me / #7 – Skeptic / #6 – Kelly’s Humor

#5 Talk Veuve to Me comes to post for Rodolphe Brisset who was a longtime assistant to Bill Mott. She exits the G1 Acorn off a game effort against Monomoy Girl and gets added distance to dictate the pace. Julien Leparoux in the irons and she should be tough to reel in.

#7  Skeptic is the daughter of Tiznow for trainer Rusty Arnold. The barn is one for one at Indy and has the look of a midpack stalker. B.J. Hernadez Jr. in the driver’s seat and she moves up in class off two straight wins. This is the acid test she’s been wanting.

#6 Kelly’s Humor is a daughter of Midnight Lute for trainer Brad Cox. In a race filled with speed, this could set up her plans stalking just off the pace. Florent Geroux in the driver’s seat and that moves her chances up greatly.

Indiana Grand

Race #9 – G3 Indiana Derby – 1 1/16 – 9:48 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #8 King Zachary / #9 Funny Duck / #4 Dark Vader

#8 King Zachary should heavily supported at the windows from the Dale Romans barn. This son of Curlin has looked like a new runner since a dismal effort in the Wood Memorial. The way Robby Albarado guided him to victory in the G3 Matt Winn at Churchill Downs was impressive. He’s on the improve and is poised to pounce in the 24th edition of the Indiana Derby.

#9 Funny Duck comes in off a 4th place finish in the G3 Matt Winn. It was blistering hot that night and was forced to steady at the start. Let’s toss that as a bad night. Rusty Arnold is the conditioner with B.J. Hernandez Jr. in the saddle. He ran 4th last out and I’m looking for some big improvement today. His race record the last four is one good and one bad. Maybe it’s time to fire off a big effort.

#4 Dark Vader is the son of Tale of Ekati for trainer Peter Eurton. This Ohio bred ran a big race in the Easy Goer getting beat a neck after bobbling at the start. He’s a good stalker making his 3rd off the layoff. He has a sharp morning work at Santa Anita preparing for this race and seeing a huge effort would not surprise me at all.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 8/23/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The wagering world had bankroll action on the G1 Alabama and G1 Pacific Classic. Elate scored in the 137th edition under the guidance of Jose Ortiz for Bill Mott. The G1 Pacific Classic set up as the “battle of the stablemates” as Collected set a reasonable pace besting Arrogate down the lane.  Last weekend was hardly the crown jewel of summer as Saratoga offers up the 148th running of the Travers / The Mid-Summer Derby this Saturday. – We still have a few days until post time, and here are some runners who you’ll need to keep on your radar screen. They may come right back and reward their loyal backers next time on the track. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!

Saratoga

8/19/17

Race #5 – Mdn Sp Wt – 6f – #6 – Variant Perception

#6 – Variant Perception = This was a 1st-time starter by Curlin for the Chad Brown barn. His dam Mystery Trip has 5 winners from 5 starters and came in off some good works. – He broke in the air prior to the start and brushed leaving the starting gate.  Brown will have him ready for the races next up and wins at a solid clip 2nd trip out.

Race #6 – Alw $85,000 – 1 1/8 on the main – #5 – Hookup

#5 – Hookup = Manny Franco in the saddle and this son of Union Rags has been away from the races for 8 months. – He was knocked around the start and was taken out of stride. After being forced into another, Franco picked up the action and made a solid bid finishing up to be third this day.

Race #9 – G1 Alabama Stakes – 1 1/4 on the main – #1 – New Money Honey

#1 – New Money Honey = This was her first time on the dirt and has been a turf monster. She was looking three-in-a-row and her 3rd off the shelf. – Javier Castellano in the irons and Chad Brown the conditioner (33%). She was in tracking mode and forced to steady and tap on the breaks at the 1/4 pole weakening down the lane.

Saratoga

8/20/17

Race #5 – Mdn Sp Wt – 1 1/16 on the turf – #5 – Lemoona

#5 – Lemoona = Two-yr-old filly by Lemon Drop Kid, and she has the breeding that suggests she’ll relish the turf. – She was sandwiched and slammed leaving the starting gate. Junior Alvarado did a great job-saving ground and was forced to sweep 5 wide at the 1/4 pole making a late bid for 2nd money.

Race  #9 – $100,000 Summer Colony – 1 1/8 on the main – #4 – Romantic Vision

#4 – Romantic Vision = Javier Castellano in the saddle for Rusty Arnold. She’s been away from the races for 60 days since Churchill Downs and had a couple of works over the deep Oklahoma training track. This was not her day at all as she stumbled badly at the start, took up and bumped. After all this action she never regained her momentum and called it a day. Look for her to return at this level of the upper stratosphere of the allowance ranks.

8/18/17

Race #1 – Claiming – 5f on the main – #8 – Scotch is My Candy

#8 – Scotch is My Candy = Carson Sullivan in the irons for John Alexander Ortiz (22%). This daughter of Sidney’s candy was shipping in from Indiana Grand. She was taking a huge plunge in class and the barn is 9/9 ITM at the meet. She was off slow at the start and was forced to rush up quickly making a strong bid this day. The barn is solid and she’ll get it together next out.

Race #6 – O.C. $25,000 – 1 mile on the turf – #9 – In the Shoes

#9 – In the Shoes = Very solid gal coming off a win at BtP, and trainer Donna Taylor is winning (30%) at the meet. This daughter of Congrats ran into a little trouble during the race and was forced to check twice into the far turn and fanned six wide. After all the activity, rider Dick Cardenas got her rolling late and made a powerful late bid to be a bridesmaid this day. A little bit of racing luck and she’ll be getting a trip to the winner’s circle.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 10/22/16

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

There are only 18 days until the Breeders Cup takes center stage. Most of your summer ovals have finished up their long runs, and boutique race meets offer the best in racing for the casual and hard-core fan alike. – I have been on the sidelines waiting with baited breath to make my first trek to Keeneland. Think of it like “Brigadoon” where the race meet appears twice a year for 15 days give or take. There looks to be a “golden rail” and a bias toward the front running types. I’ll keep you in the loop about my first trek to the Lexington oval. – But in the meantime, keep an eagle-eye stare focused for these runners when they hit the track again. I watched most of the races live, and caught the replays a few times each. They are deserving of a piece of your bankroll next up. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Belmont Park

10/15/16

Race #4 – #12 – Irish Filibuster – 7f on the turf = Luis Saez in the irons for Mike Maker. They were bumped soundly leaving the starting gate and should be followed right back. This was his first effort since February at Fair Grounds, and Maker has a way to get his runners ready to move forward off for runners coming off the shelf.

Race #6 – #6 – Tombelaine – 7f on the turf = Javier Castellano for Chad Brown and this runner was making a first start since shipping in from Gulfstream. Pinched back at the start and was forced between foes down the backstretch. – Add in he was 6 wide around the final turn closing stoutly and you have a runner ready to get his picture taken next out.

Race #7 – #4 – Easy Way Out – 6 1/2f on the main = 1st time filly with Irad Ortiz in the saddle. Knocked around multiple times leaving the gate and had to alter course to the six wide path. Once she found clear sailing, he effort was eye-catching. – She will improve off this effort and be a handful next time to the races.

Keeneland

10/15/16

Race #2 – #2- Prudence – 1 mile on the turf= Corey Lanerie was in the drivers seat this day for the “Rusty” Arnold barn. She split runners gamely and showed great interest. The barn does very well with return runners during the brief meet. The big question is can he wheel her back in the next two weeks or will they turn to a winter campaign ? – If she appears right back at Keeneland, bet early and often.

Race #6 – #4 – Leofric = Chris Landeros had the call for trainer Neil Howard. Shipped in off a Churchill effort in September, and was knocked around a bit leaving the gate. Finished up with a good late kick and the big question is where will he race next ? – Should we be looking for a quick return, or a campaign back at  Churchill Downs ? – Either way, this is a runner who needs a bet.
