Race #4 – The G2 Demoiselle – 1 1/8 – 1:02 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Molto Bella / #1 – Enliven / #6 – Afleet Destiny

#7 Molto Bella is a daughter of Violence for the Ian Wilkes barn. Javier Castellano has the call and she can sport a good turn of early foot. Two back she went from a sprint to a one turn mile at CD in the Rags to Riches four wide gaining on the winner. She should benefit from the high percentage Castellano 25% at Aqueduct and be much closer to the action. 2nd route races yield a 21% win clip from the Wilkes barn. #1 Enliven comes from the Kiaran McLaughlin stable and is a stone cold closer. She ran a very game 3rd in the G3 Tempted and gets the services of Jersey Joe Bravo. The rail is winning 28% and she’ll come calling late in the lane. #6 Afleet Destiny comes off a quick closing effort at Parx for Uriah St. Lewis with strong closing rider Irad Ortiz in the irons. She’s been knocking on the door and received her diploma last out on the step up in class.

Race #8 – The G2 Remsen – 1 1/8 – 3:12 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Network Effect / #6 – Maximus Mischief / #3 -Bourbon War

#5 Network Effect is a solid closer in a race filled with speed. He hails from the Chad Brown barn with Javier Castellano in the driver’s seat. He had a very nice maiden break at Saratoga and came rolling 6 wide last out. He should relish the added distance and Brown wins 36% going second time at the route distance. #6 Maximus Mischief is a speedy colt who is seeking his third straight win coming in from Parx. Frankie Pennington comes in for the ride and will be sending this son of Into MIschief right to the lead. He has a bullet work on 11/16 at Parx and looks ready for the next step. #3 Bourbon War comes from the Mark Hennig barn with Irad Ortiz in the irons. He has a win at the “Big A” and appears to be a perfect stalking sort. Ortiz is an excellent closing rider and this son of Tapit may get right in the game at the top of the stretch.

Race #9 – The G1 Cigar Mile – 1 mile – 3:45 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #3 – Sunny Ridge / #8 – Pattern Recognition / #1 – Mendelssohn

#3 Sunny Ridge is a son of Holy Bull for the Jason Servis barn. Irad Ortiz has the call and they team up to win 34%. He exits the G2 Kelso going a mile and should enjoy the distance where he is 5 for 5 ITM. Manny Franco to Ortiz, and a solid stalker in the field. I’m looking for a big effort getting the job done around the far turn. #8 Pattern Recognition comes in off a win in the G2 Kelso and should be a major pace player for the Chad Brown barn. He is 2 for 2 at Aqueduct and looks for three in a row. I think Jose Ortiz will send and he’s one of the best speed riders in the nation. #1 Mendelssohn is a son of Scat Daddy for Aidan O’Brien with Ryan Moore in the saddle. He’ll show good speed, and Moore is always dangerous anytime he takes a mount. He’s cutting back from a mile and a quarter and may improve at the shorter distance.

Brown is winning 26% at the meet and “Robert” exits an impressive win in the G1 Arlington Million. He’s been off for 49 days and is a stout closer. She has four solid works under her belt and Pletcher scores 25% coming back off a beaten favorite angle. She gets added distance and this race should fit her nicely. #3 Virginia Eloise is a daughter of Curlin for the Pletcher barn. She broke her maiden at first asking and raced a little green last out while putting together a big run down the lane. Javier Castellano in the saddle and she’ll track the pace looming a major danger. #7 Chasing Yesterday is a daughter of Tapit for the Bob Baffert barn. “Money Man” Mike Smith in the saddle as she was an impressive maiden winner on July, 28th. I’m looking for a mature and ready runner to strut his stuff. #1 Yoshida is a Japanese bred runner for trainer Bill Mott. Joel Rosario in the irons and comes off a good effort at Ascot two back in the Gr1 Queen Anne. One thing for sure. Mott would not have him entered if he had any doubts about his ability. Bill Mott is 40% making the turf to dirt switch and it would be best not to count him out just yet. #10 Seeking the Soul is a son of Perfect Soul for talented trainer Dallas Stewart. He was a beaten favorite at Indiana last out and that was his last start since the Pegasus Cup in January. He’s 2 for 2 ITM at Saratoga and owns some very nice works to show readiness.

BetPTC.com Selections / #3 Midnight Bisou / #8 Talk Veuve to Me / #2 Eskimo Kisses

#3 Midnight Bisou is a daughter of Midnight Lute for trainer Steve Asmussen. “Money Man” Mike Smith in the saddle and she looks to be the one to beat. There’s no Monomoy Girl here, and that’s a big plus for this gal going 3rd off the layoff. She should relish the stalking trip just off the speed and be a push button runner for Smith at the quarter pole.

#8 Talk Veuve to Me comes in for trainer Rodolphe Brisset.  After running 2nd to Monomoy Girl in the G1 Acorn she put on a solid effort at Indiana Grand winning by daylight. She’ll be the speed and Leparoux fits her like a glove. She’ll have to be on task as Midnight Bisou will be tracking very closely.

#2 Eskimo Kisses comes from the Kenny McPeek barn and has the services of Jose Ortiz. She’s only run once since the Kentucky Oaks finishing 4th. She has the look of a wildcard in here, and maybe she’s matured making her 2nd start off the layoff. This will be a big test and should get a piece of the pie.

Del Mar

Race #8 – The G1 Del Mar Oaks – 1 1/8 on the turf – 8:40 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 Colonia / #6 Paved / #12 Animosity

#7 Colonia is a daughter of Champs Elysees for the Graham Motion barn. Joel Rosario in the irons as she makes her 2nd start since shipping in from Saint Cloud in France. She won the Hatoof in Chicago on her first effort in the states, and this begs the question how good is this gal? Since leaving the synthetic and getting Lasix she was pretty impressive closing from the clouds.

#6 Paved is a daughter of Quality Road with Drayden Van Dyke in the saddle. She is one for one ITM at Del Mar and makes her 3rd start off the layoff for Michael McCarthy. She won the G2 Honeymoon at Santa Anita and gets a new rider. Overall she is 5 for 6 ITM on the turf.

#12 Animosity goes to post for trainer Patrick Gallagher. Tyler Gaffalione in town to ride this daughter of Animal Kingdom, and should be a major pace player in here today.

#5 Accelerate is son of Looking At Lucky for trainer John Sadler. He is 4 for 5 ITM at Del Mar and exits an impressive win in the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita. Sadler is loaded this year with Catalina Cruiser and this fella has been pointed to this race. Joel Rosario is the pilot and he knows his way to the winner’s circle.

#1 Lieutenant is a half brother to Justify for trainer Michael McCarthy. He was a handsome price finishing 2nd in the G2 Suburban and the rail is winning 25% so far this meet. This is a tough test but he has faced some big names in the past. Don’t count him out.

#4 Roman Rosso hails from the Bob Baffert barn with top rider Flavien Prat aboard. This Argentinian runner is 6 for 8 lifetime and Baffert tosses him in the deep water. There’s some real upside to this South American tough guy and Baffert wouldn’t have him in if there wasn’t some promise.

#1 Sombeyay hails from the Todd Pletcher barn with Javier Castellano in the irons. He’s had two eventful trips but his race in the Tremont was impressive. He stumbled at the start and came rolling late. He sports a bullet work over the deep Saratoga training course putting the final touch on his preparation.

#7 Bano Solo is a son of Goldenscents from the Steve Asmussen barn. His sire fires 16% first time winners and did not disappoint at Churchill. His workout pattern has been sharp and I’m looking for a top effort.

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The sport of racing lost a shining star. A personality that defined a time that needed a hero as the world stood in awe of her “Big Red.” – Penny Chenery, the beloved owner of Secretariat whose influence on the sport spanned decades and whose standing inspired generations of women in racing, died Saturday at her home in Colorado from complications of a stroke at age 95. – Rest in peace, Ms. Chenery.

Here are some runners to keep on your radar screen as we move forward into the next season. They may not have had a clean trip or were compromised in giving their best. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!

BetPTC.com Selections – #4 – War Flag / #8 – Harmonize / #7 – Saranda

#4 – War Flag = Jose Ortiz aboard for Shug McGaughey and is 7/7 ITM lifetime. Since shipping in from Chantilly racing in the states has been going well. She’ll be a little closer going from 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 and with Ortiz in the irons, he’ll know how to rate and get the best from her today. #8 – Harmonize = John Velasquez for Bill Mott and they are 2/3 ITM at the Spa. Exits the G1 Diana and the class relief should be welcome. You’ll have to go back to May 2016 to see this level of competition and being a closer with the added distance may fit her well. #7 – Saranda = Daughter of Dansili for trainer Peter Schiergen. She last raced in the G1 Beverly D and the drop in class will fit her better. She’s been facing Group company in Germany and may be a factor in the late running of the race.

Mike Smith aboard for Jerry Hollendorfer and she is making her 3rd start off the layoff (22%) and left California off a very sharp work going 47.1. She cuts back in distance and is 2/2 ITM going 9f. Smith travels in to ride this majestic gal and she can set the pace or lay right behind the leader. If she brings her “A” game she’ll be tough to stop. #3 – Going for Broke = This daughter of Blame is a stone cold closer with one of the strongest finishing riders with Irad Ortiz. She is 3/3 ITM at Saratoga coming from the Chad Brown barn. She’s run second to Songbird and knows how to get rolling late in the lane. The barn wins (32%) going from a sprint to a route, and last out she ran 7f closing late. #4 – Forever Unbridled = She exits a G2 win at CD and is 5/5 ITM going this distance. She is maturing nicely and has the style that fits the race. #4 – By the Moon = She is a daughter of Indian Charlie and has the services of Rajiv Maragh. He is a very strong finishing rider and her stalking trip can be accentuated with a good late punch. Race #8 – The G1 Allen Jerkins Stakes – 7f – 3:35 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #7 – Coal Front / #9 – American Anthem / #1 – Practical Joke

#7 – Coal Front = Son of Stay Thirsty is a perfect 3/3 and looks to add another for the Todd Pletcher barn. He moved up in class off a maiden win in the G2 Amsterdam and was very game when the real running began. Lightly raced and has few things to pick apart. He’s pretty good right now, and we’ll know if he’s ready for that next level after Saturday. #9 – American Anthem = Bob Baffert trainee has been a tough customer and he is 2/2 at the distance. Ever since the SA Derby, he has matured into a very nice colt. He’s rolled off 2 straight going 7f and Mike Smith is his pilot. Baffert is 2/2 ITM at the Spa and wins (29%) off a graded win. #1 – Practical Joke = 2/2 with wins at the Spa and had a troubled trip in the Haskell. Joel Rosario for Chad Brown and they make a cut back in distance from 1 1/8 – 7f where the barn wins (35%). Ever since the Kentucky Derby, he is training well and running strong. The rail is a plus and the trainer knows how to bring them ready.

Race #9 – The G1 Forego – 7f – 4:12 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #10 – Drefong / #6 – Mind Your Biscuits / #2 – Ross

#10 – Drefong = A son of Gio Ponti comes to post for the Bob Baffert barn. Mike “Money-Man” Smith was in the saddle when he ducked into the gap and lost his rider. This is his 2nd start of the 2017 season and the plan looks to return to the left coast for the Breeders’ Cup with a win. He is a monster sprinter and won going 7 panels in the Kings Bishop at the Spa. Smith is a great judge of pace and he looks to be the one to beat as they come back to notch a trip to the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar. #6 – Mind Your Biscuits = He came back off a win in the Gr.2 Golden Shaheen at Meydan and rolled in the G2 Belmont Sprint. He is maturing into a big boy and his races are showing a new dimension every trip. He’s been off for 49 days and Chad Brown will have him cranked up as he is ITM (50%) with rested runners. #2 – Ross = A bit of a wild card who is here for a reason. Andrasch Starke aboard for trainer Peter Schiergen from Germany. He exits off a 6 1/2f win at Deauville only 19 days ago and has run in group company on synthetic and turf. I’m going to use him to complete my exotics, and a price may accompany him to the starting gate.

Race #10 – G1 Sword Dancer – 1 1/2 on the turf – 4:49 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #5 – Money Multiplier / #4 – Hunter O’Riley / #2 – Bigger Picture

#5 – Money Multiplier = Javier Castellano for Chad Brown (20%). This son of Lookin At Lucky is making his 2nd start of the year and a very nice win in the G2 Monmouth. He enjoys the Spa going 3/3 ITM and last year got caught up in traffic and was forced to take up in this race last year. He should be stalking mid-pack and moving before they hit the top of the lane. #4 – Hunter O’Riley = Won the G2 Bowling Green as our pick last out to light up the board. I think there’s more in the tank and he’ll come rolling like a down bound train in the stretch. Florent Geroux stays aboard and is a come from the clouds type who would benefit from some early pace. #2 – Bigger Picture = Jose Ortiz for Mike Maker and they are making a 3rd off the layoff move (25%). He is 2/3 ITM at the Spa and is a very strong closer. Ortiz is having a great year and he wins (21%) with turf runners. They have a solid post draw and the rider knows the greensward as well as anyone.

Race #11 – The G1 Travers – 1 1/4 – 5:44 pm ET

BetPTC.com Selections – #2 – Tapwrit / #3 – West Coast / #9 – McCraken

#2 – Tapwrit = Earlier this year he peaked too soon and his best race was the Tampa Bay Derby. He never really got a break until he went on the shelf after the Derby and had three weeks to the Belmont where he bested the field by two lengths. Once Todd Pletcher figured out this son of Tapit, he’s had a two-month break from his victory in the Belmont. He owns some solid works and the rider/trainer are 6/7 ITM the past two weeks. He looks ready and all reports are good. #3 – West Coast = Baffert / Smith team up with a son of Flatter. He is looking for his 4th straight win and was an easy winner of the Los Al Derby. They never raced him as a two -yr-old and he is getting better by the race. You can bet dollars to donuts Smith will have him in the hunt at the top of the lane. #9 – McCraken = He looked like a winner in the G1 Haskell getting nailed on the wire. His only bad race was the Derby and he is 7/8 ITM lifetime. – B.J. Hernandez in the irons once again for Ian Wilkes and do not leave this guy off your ticket. He’ll chase the leaders and make a big move about the 5/16th’s pole hitting high gear. I like his stride, and the rider is underrated. He’ll be looking for some payback after the Haskell and this is a perfect place to show his ability.
