BetPTC.com / Weekend Stakes Preview / Fall Stars Weekend

by: Ed Meyer

Keeneland / Friday

Race #8 – The G2 Phoenix – 6f – 4:57 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #3 – Whitmore / #6 – Hog Creek Hustle / #7 – Promises Fulfilled

#3 Whitmore is from the Ron Moquette barn with Joel Rosario in the saddle. Been off for three months and has an affinity for Keeneland, being 2 for 2 ITM. He lost by a nose in last year’s edition and sports some sharp works to prepare. This closer has real upsides as he fires very strong off the layoff. #6 Hog Creek Hustle is a son of Overanalyze for Vickie Foley. Corey Lanerie in the irons and he fits this deep closer like a glove. I’ve been watching this guy since February in the G2 Risen Star. He is maturing very nicely. #7 Promises Fulfilled is a son of Shackleford for Dale Romans and Luis Saez has the mount. A speedy colt who will ensure an honest pace. Add in he is 2 for 2 at Kee and he’s hard to dismiss.

Race #9 – The G1 Alcibiades – 1 1/16 – 5:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Perfect Alibi / #4 – Alandra / #9 – Sequin

#7 Perfect Alibi comes from the Mark Casse barn and Jose Ortiz is the pilot. A daughter of Sky Mesa who is 3rd off the layoff seeking her 3rd in a row.  She exits the G1 Spinaway, exchanging bumps but drawing away late. She should be a bit closer and pounce on the far turn with a quick turn of foot. Ortiz wins 21% with closing type runners. #4 Alandra is a daughter of Blame for Shug McGaughey and Joel Rosario. A speedy filly who won her only start. The distance should be no problem and her dam Altesse is a perfect 3 for 3 with her progeny. #9 Sequin is making the turf to dirt switch coming from Kyd for trainer Wesley Ward. Tyler Gaffalione has the call and has two very good place efforts. Ward spots his runners well and to drop a maiden in here could get you a square price. Both efforts were beaten chalk attempts and Ward can bring them ready.

Keeneland / Saturday

Race #7 – The G2 Thoroughbred Club of America – 6f – 4:29 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #8 – Chalon / #3 – Spiced Perfection / #4 – Danuska’ My Girl

#8 Chalon is a daughter of Dialed In for Arnaud Delacour and Paco Lopez. 3rd time off the layoff and she is 3 for 3 ITM over the course. She missed by a nose last year in this race and should get a perfect stalking trip looking for payback. #3 Spiced Perfection comes from the barn of Peter Miller with Javier Castellano aboard. She’s been off 5 months working solid clips in the morning. The trainer wins 22% with sprinters and cuts back in distance to come calling late in the lane. #4 Danuska’s My Girl is a daughter of Shackleford for Jerry Hollendorfer and the turf master Flavien Prat winning 24% on the sod. She’s a speedy gal shipping in from the left coast. Prat taking the mount makes her dangerous on the lead.

Keeneland offer at BetPTC

Race #8 – The G1 First Lady Stakes – 1 mile on the turf – 5:04 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Vasilika / #7 – Indian Blessing / #11 – Rushing Fall

#6 Vasilika comes from the Hollendorfer barn with Flavien Prat in the irons. She cuts back to a mile and can give plenty of grey hairs watching her come flying in the shadow of the wire. Her late kick is ultra impressive and the barn wins 21% making a 3rd off the layoff move. Prat will have her high gear turning for home. #7 Indian Blessing comes from the Ed Walker yard with Jamie Spencer in the saddle. Two back they shipped over from Germany and then came rolling late to be bested by a dirty nose in the G-2 Ballston Spa. Look for her silks in the final yards down the lane. #11 Rushing Fall is a speedy gal for Chad Brown and Javier Castellano teaming up. She’s been off for two months and been working a regular morning clip. Castellano wins 21% with speedsters and he’ll drop over from the outside post to find a comfy position to save some ground. If she can grab the lead around the far turn she could be very dangerous.

Race #9 – The G1 Breeders’ Futurity – 1 1/16 – 5:39 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #10 – Gouverneur Morris / #1 – Tapit It to Win / #2 – By Your Side

#10  Gouverneur Morris is a son of Constitution who wins 24% of his firsters. They won by nine handily at Saratoga and have been working lights out. He’s a stalking sort and look for Castellano to have him in the catbird seat by the halfway point. I’m looking for a strong late punch and a trip to the Breeders’ Cup. #1 Tapit It to Win is a son of Tapit for Mark Casse and Tyler Gaffalione. They switched from turf to dirt and he won like a good thing. His bullet work shows promise that all systems are go as they get added ground going two turns. #2 By Your Side is a son of Constituition for trainer Eddie Kennealy and Corey Lanerie. He was 2 for 2 and then caught a sloppy track in the G-1 Hopeful. Toss that race and you’ll see a colt give a game effort.

Race #10 – The G1 Shadwell Turfwell Mile – 1 mile on the turf – 6:15 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #12- Suedois / #6 – Admission Office / #4 – Valid Point.

#12 Suedois comes from the David O’Meara yard with Jamie Spencer aboard. He is 1 for 1 at Kee and took home $600k from that score in Lexington. This son of Le Harve (IRE) gets Lasix as he’ll be looking for his spot mid pack by the first turn. He’s game and Spencer is a world class rider. #6 Admission Office is a son of Point of Entry for Bryan Lynch and Jose Ortiz. He’s been off for 3 months and is a strong closer. He had a solid allowance win over the track and today is his test making another step up the class ladder. He was a beaten favorite last out and the barn comes back to score 22% looking to turn the tables. #4 Valid Point is a son of Scat Daddy for Chad Brown and Javier Castellano. Been away from the races 56 days and was ultra impressive winning the G-1 Secretariat.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 11/30/17

BetPTC.com – Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The winter ovals are opening the doors and we’re ready to follow the horses as they make their next stop. But as we ready for the next oval, we need to keep our eyes open for problem runners who have an excuse. They may not have had a good break, stumbled or blocked down the lane. As handicappers, we are always looking to build our bankroll and there is no better time than now. – Just keep your eyes peeled and have these runners on your radar. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!

Churchill Downs

11/18/17

Race #4 – #9 – Sky Promise – 1 1/16 on the turf

#9 – Sky Promise = Son of Sky Mesa for the Ken McPeek barn. He was adding first-time blinkers and had the services of Robby Albarado. The track was listed as yielding and he seems to enjoy a surface with a little “cut” to it. This day he was tracking from the back and made a strong 4 wide bid to get the show dough.

Race #7 – #2 – Like a Haint – 6f on the main

#2 – Like a Haint = Filly by Archarcharch is fresh off two straight claims and was a beaten favorite the last two. She loves CD going 5/6 ITM. She had the services of apprentice Edgar Morales and was rallying strongly on the outside. The leader and eventual winner floated out a little bit near the wire and won by a head. Some would call it race riding and others would dismiss it as a bad streak of luck. – You’ll need to follow her back as she’ll probably head to Turfway Park.

Fair Grounds

11/18/17

Race #2 – #9 – Much Trouble – 1 and 70 yards on the main

#9 -Much Trouble = Miguel Mena in the saddle for Thom Amoss. Shipping in from Indiana Grand and was a beaten favorite last out. He owned a bullet work over the course and looked to fit. He was carried out at the 3/4 and forced to check up sharply at the 1/8th pole. After all this, he still managed a strong place finish.

Del Mar

11/19/17

Race #7 – #10- Pants on Fire – 1 mile on the turf

#10 – Pants on Fire = Corey Nakatani in the irons for Richard Baltas.  3-yr-old filly by Sir Percy (GB) is regally bred for the green. She came flying and would have taken flight if she had wings. The way she maneuvered through runners and weaved in and out closing like gangbusters. – Follow her right back.

Race #8 – #2 – Solid Wager – $100k Cary Grant – 7f on the main

#2 – Solid Wager = Peter Miller is the conditioner and he has been red-hot winning 33%. He was a beaten favorite last out and was left at the post this day. – Victor Espinoza saved ground and swung out gamely making a strong 5 wide move. Everything seemed to fit and he’ll give them fits next time out.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 7/4/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

As much of the country was having BBQ’s and watching fireworks. The long weekend of racing  offered  a show of it’s own with a plethora of wagering opportunities. The summer is now into full swing, and with every passing week we’ll have plenty of great runners to watch and wager.  Keep your eyes peeled for the runners below and you may find it better than warm apple pie at the end of a long day. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com.

7/1/17

Belmont

Race #7 – $100,000 Perfect Sting – 1 mile on the turf

#8 – Ancient Secret was making her 2nd start of the 2017 season. The Chad Brown trainee was 4/5 ITM coming into the race was in the 3 path most of the race. When they turned for home she was carried out into the 7 path running 3rd this day. – With a little racing luck she’ll be tough next out.

Race #8 – Allowance – 6f on the main track

#3 – Wicked Macho is a son of Macho Uno. He had Jose Ortiz in the saddle and was exiting the $150,000 Easy Goer. He was odds-on favorite this day and shied at the start, checked off of heels, and weakened down the lane. I am tossing this race as a “bad hair day” and look forward to his next. He looked good coming onto the track and should give a better account next out.

7/2/17

Ellis Park

Race #4 – O.C. 20,000 – 6f on the main track

#2 Bourbon Cowboy shipped in from Arlington and was making the poly-dirt switch. The 3rd off the layoff looked solid as the barn wins (28%) on this move. He broke slow and once he got back on track he finished up with good late kick.

Race #7 – Mdn Sp Wt – 5f on the main track

#10 – Party Club was a first time starter by Sky Mesa. She came in for D. Wayne Lukas off a bullet work and looked good on the track. She came running late and was forced 7 wide at the top of the lane gaining ground rapidly. She’ll get better with each start and should come rolling late in the lane next out.

7/1/17

Belterra Park

Race #4 – Mdn Sp Wt – 5f on the main track

#8 Tempestuous Amy was a 1st time starter by I Want Revenge. She was sent off the odds-on choice and ran an even third place finish. Trainer Bill Connelly wins (20%) with his 2-yr-olds and does very well for the second trip to the races. She’ll be a major player next out.

7/3/17

Belterra Park

Race #7 – Allowance Optional Claiming – 1 mile on the turf

#3 – Princess Drossie was making her 3rd off the layoff move for Phil Sims. She was 1/1 at BtP and had Cory Orm back in the saddle. There was a greast deal of traffic problems resulting in a DQ.  She circled the field in a 7 wide bid getting beat 1/2 length at the wire for everything.

BetPTC.com Horses to Watch – 3/16/17

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

As we enter the time of year when all preps count. You can smell the scent of roses  with only 54 days until the first Saturday in May. The Derby picture has shown a glimmer of hopefuls but there are still many questions to be answered. Only time will tell and you’ll want to watch and wager right here on BetPTC.com ! – Here are some runners to build that needed Triple Crown bankroll. Some have a good excuse for not bringing their “A” game and that translates to a bumper payday at the windows. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com !

Gulfstream Park

3/11/17

Race #6 – #4 – Milbra – Claiming 6f

Jermaine Bridgmohan was aboard the three-year-old filly who broke her maiden two races back. She had a bad trip last out, and was ready to make good. Claimers can have a short cycle of being ready to roll. She was 14-1 today, and showed a glimpse of good things to come next out. If she gets anywhere near this price she’ll reward her backers handsomely at the windows.

Race #11 – #6 – Sweet Ella – 7 1/2f on the turf

Luis Saez in the irons for Todd Pletcher as they brought a daughter of Scat Daddy to post. She was cutting back from 1 1/16 – 7 1/2f and was making her second start of the year. She was 5 wide in the final turn and splitting runners with great interest as the odds-on favorite. Maybe some added ground or a cleaner trip has her in the winner’s circle next out.

Tampa Bay Downs

3/11/17

Race #3 – #5 – Road Guard Post – 6 1/2f on the main track

Daniel Centeno in the saddle as he was aboard the first time starter by Unbridled’s Song. The barn has a strong win clip of 45% with first timers. She broke well setting a blistering pace only to settle for the show dough this effort. She is bred to be something special and her work tab is solid. Second time out may be just what the doctor ordered.

Race #4 – #6 – Alum – 7f on the main track

Jose Ortiz in town for Todd Pletcher, and the son of Bodemiester was a beaten chalk over the track last out. Pletcher’s usual rider John Velasquez was aboard the eventual winner Egyptian Hero. Alum was bumped soundly at the start and had to check at the 1/8th pole uncorking a rally. He’s bred to be a player and next out may be a good shot at redemption.

Race #7 – #4 – Profiteer – 1 mile on the turf

Jose Ortiz in the driver’s seat for Shug McGaughey. This was 2nd time lasix for the son of War Front and his second start of 2017. He was a beaten favorite, and bested in the shadow of the wire. This turf runner will give them fits next time out.

Race #10 – #9 – My Impression – 1 1/8 on the turf

New York-shipper for the McGaughey barn with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. The daughter of Sky Mesa was making her first start of the year. She made a stout charge at the 3/16’s pole three wide making a solid bid to be fifth this day.
