BetPTC.com / Weekend Stakes Preview / Ed Meyer

Belmont Park Race #8 – The G1 Woody Stephens – 7f – 4:04 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #4 – Complexity / #1 – Honest Mischief / #8 – Hog Creek Hustle

#4 Complexity comes from the barn of Chad Brown with Jose Ortiz in the irons. They are winning 26% together as a team. He’s been off for 7 months since the BC Juvenile where he was bumped soundly. He’s been training over the Oklahoma Training Course at Saratoga and cuts back in distance. This colt looks to benefit from a quick early pace stalking in mid pack. #1 Honest Mischief is a Chad Brown trainee with Javier Castellano in the saddle. He’s been off for two months after an impressive maiden win at Keeneland. He owns a sharp work as they team up to win 35%. He’s a closer and should get a piece of the pie. #8 Hog Creek Hustle is a son of Overanalyze for trainer Vickie Foley. Corey Lanerie always makes a run with him, and this colt should come flying late to light up your exotic payoffs.

Race #9 – The G1 Metropolitan – 1 mile – 4:46 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Firenze Fire / #3 – Mitole / #2 – McKenzie

#7 Firenze Fire comes from the barn of Jason Servis with Irad Ortiz in the driver’s seat. 3rd off the layoff with an impressive win in the Runhappy at Belmont. He is 3 for 3 with wins and should appreciate the added ground and strong finishing Ortiz in the saddle. #3 Mitole is a speedy son of Eskendreya looking for his 7th straight victory. His win in the G1 Churchill Downs was solid and Steve Asmussen brings his go to rider in Ricardo Santana looking to wire the field. #2 McKenzie is a son of Street Sense with Mike Smith in the irons for Bob Baffert. His 3rd off the layoff move yields a 26% win clip. He is a perfect stalking type cutting back to a one turn mile.

Race #10 – G1 Manhattan – 1 1/4 on the turf – 5:36 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #8 – Bricks and Mortar / #10 Channel Maker / #4 Qurbaan

#8 Bricks and Mortar is a son of Giant’s Causeway for trainer Chad Brown. 3rd off the layoff looking for his 5th straight win. When he won the G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf he found another gear that day. He is 3 for 3 ITM at Belmont and 1 for 1 at the distance. Look for a late rush in the lane. #10 Channel Maker from the barn of Bill Mott with Joel Rosario in the irons. This is his 2nd off the layoff and should be right on the pace. Winning the G1 Man O’ War shows he is in great form and should be right in the mix turning for home. #4 Qurbaan comes from the barn of Kiaran McLaughlin with Mike Smith. 3rd off for the son of Speightstown who ran a game second to the favorite. He should be a little closer with one of the best riders in the business.

Race #11 – The 151st Belmont Stakes – 1 1/2 – 6:37 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #10 – Tacitus / #8 – Intrepid Heart / #6 – Spinoff

#10 Tacitus is a son of Tapit for Bill Mott and Jose Ortiz. He’s as honest as they come and is always knocking on the door. He should be able to run the distance and the outside post will allow him to drop over and settle. He has a nice late punch and a bullet work to show readiness. #8 Intrepid Heart comes from the Pletcher barn with John Velasquez in the irons. 3rd off the layoff and adds blinkers where they win 20% on this equipment change. He stumbled at the start in the G3 Peter Pan as the post time chalk. He’ll stalk the pace and wait for his cue to take off in high gear. #6 Spinoff is a son of Hard Spun for Todd Pletcher. Javier Castellano is aboard and I would toss out his Derby trip. He should be closer than normal and Castellano wins 20% with early runners. I’m looking for an up close trip navigating the sweeping turn for home.

They are winning 28% as a team and this son of Tapit is 2/2. He’s a versatile runner seeking his third straight win moving up the ladder. #3 Global Campaign goes to post for trainer Stanley Hough with Luis saez in the saddle. He’s been on the shelf for 2 months exiting the G2 FOY at GP. His style is solid speed as this son of Curlin has been working over the deep CD course looking to fire with fresh legs.

Race #8 – The Breeders’ Cup Mile – 1 mile on turf – 3:36 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Expert Eye / #5 – Oscar Performance / #2 – Next Shares

#7 Expert Eye is the son of Acclamation for Sir Michael Stoute. He gets first Lasix and has been a little short of getting the mile distance. Europeans have a way of getting added distance on these days and has the services of Frankie Dettori in irons. The 55 days away from the races may have him in top order and the connections like their chances. #5 Oscar Performance is a son of Kittens’ Joy for trainer Brian Lynch with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. He is a perfect 3 for 3 at the distance and exits the G1 Woodbine Mile which has served as a great prep for this affair. Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace and should try and wire the field. #2 Next Shares is a son of Archarcharch and exits the G1 Shadwell Mile at Keeneland. Also a key prep for this race and 6 for 9 ITM going the distance. Respected rider Tyler Gafflione in the saddle and trainer Richard Baltas wins 17% on the turf. This closer will come calling late.

Race #9 – The Breeders’ Cup Distaff – 1 1/8 – 4:16 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #11 – Monomoy Girl / #2 – Abel Tasman / #10 – Blue Prize

#11 Monomoy Girl is a daughter of Tapizar for trainer Brad Cox. She is 3 for 3 ITM at Churchill and was a beaten favorite in the G1 Cotillion at Parx.  She won and was disqualified but her works are showing readiness to roll. Florent Geroux in the irons and she is 2 for 2 at the distance. If she runs back to the G1 CCA Oaks she’s gonna be tough to handle. #2 Abel Tasman comes to post for Bob Baffert and Mike Smith in the saddle. Toss out the last race where she bobbled and came off slow. According to Baffert she spiked a fever and wasn’t feeling herself. 3rd start off the layoff, solid works and 4 for 4 ITM at the distance makes her a player. #10 Blue Prize is a daughter of Pure Prize for Ignacio Correas. “Jersey” Joe Bravo in the saddle and she is 5 for 5 ITM at CD. That was a nice win in the G1 Spinster and Correas is winning 44% looking for 4-in-a-row.

Race #10 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf – 1 1/2 on the turf – 4:56 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #12 – Waldgeist / #2 – Enable / #1 – Talismanic

#12 Waldgeist is a son of Galileo for the Andre Fabre yard. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a game 2nd in the Gr1 Arc de Triomphe. He looks to be sitting on a huge effort and the top shelf connections have been speaking good things all week. #2 Enable is an ultra talented filly for trainer John Gosden. She has rolled off eight straight wins and looks to be the one to beat. Frankie Dettori is the reinsman and she’s been training well at Churchill Downs applying the final touches. She is 3 for 3 at the distance and her only knock is that Arc winners are 0 for 8 winning this event. #1 Talismanic exits a key race in the Gr1 Arc and won this event last year paying a handsome price. Is a repeat in the cards? He has excellent breeding and will come calling late in the lane.

Race #11 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic – 1 1/4 – 5:44 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2- Thunder Snow / #14 – Accelerate / #6 – McKinzie

#2 Thunder Snow has been looking good in the morning works over the CD oval. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a huge effort in the G1 Jockey Gold Cup getting bested by a neck at the wire. He is 3 for 4 ITM going 1 1/4 and should be in mid pack poised to pounce. #14 Accelerate is looking to go four in a row for trainer John Sadler. Joel Rosario is the reinsman and has been aboard his last two impressive wins. He loves the distance going 4 for 4 and won the G1 Pacific Classic by 12 lengths. Loves the distance, the rider fits like a glove, and he’s gonna be tough down the lane. #6 McKinzie is a son of Street Sense who won the Kentucky Derby. Bob Baffert and Mike Smith team up and they do every good work when the money is on the line. Should be forwardly placed with a rider who is an excellent judge of pace. Can be a major player today.

The Serpe barn is 48% ITM with 2-yr-olds and this gal should be high balling late in the lane.  #1 – Daisy = This two-yr-old daughter of Blame is a smoking perfect 2/2. She enters in from the John Servis barn and her dam Lovely Stray has 2 starts / 1win / 1 stakes win. #6 – Maurer Power = 2-yr-old filly by Violence from the John Servis barn. BetPTC.com Selections = #5 – Catholic Boy / #8 – Vouch / #3- Avery Island

#5= Catholic Boy =  Manny Franco in the irons in a race that is chock-full of stone closers. This son of More Than Ready is late mid-pack closer and is taking a huge drop down the class ladder. He makes the switch from turf/dirt and was flying late in the lane in the BC Juvenile Turf. He should come in fit and leged up and is his last race any effort he could win at a very solid price. #8 – Vouch = Speedster from the Arnaud Delacour barn and this son of Yes It’s True should take advantage of a quick start being sent by Joel Rosario. Catch him if you can! – #3 – Avery Island = Speedy son of Street Sense and he’ll be hard to hold when the gate breaks open. He is 2/3 ITM for the Kiaran McLaughlin barn. He was looking like good thing winning by 4 3/4. He’ll show the way under Joe Bravo who wins 21% with early style runners.

His works have been good in South Florida and this son of Freud is 7/8 ITM going the distance. He looks very tough today. #1 Mind Your Biscuits = Irad Ortiz has the call and comes in off a 7w close in the BC Sprint. 2nd of the shelf yields a 23% win clip for the Chad Summers barn. Could be a big player if the early fractions heat up. #4 – Tom’s Ready = Mike Smith in the irons for Dallas Stewart. This son of More Than Ready is a long-launch closer but has never been over this the “Big A.” He’s had a good 2017 going 5/6 ITM. Smith making the trip is a promising sign.
