#4 Vasilika is a daughter of Skip Shot for Jerry Hollendorfer. Flavien Prat has the call and she’s been off for 51 days. She is 11 for 11 ITM at SA and looks to make it four in a row. She’s a stalker with solid morning works. #7 Elysea’s World is a daughter of Champs Elysees (GB) for trainer Richard Baltas with Drayden Van Dyke in the saddle. She’s a strong closer exiting the G3 Santa Ana off a win and 8 for 11 ITM going the distance and two for three ITM at Santa Anita. #6 Steak of Luck cuts back in distance from the G3 Santa Ana with Mike Smith in the saddle. She’s a solid closer and a good candidate to complete your exotics.

Race #8 – The G1 Gold Cup – 1 1/4 – 7:33 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Gift Box / #4 – Lone Sailor / #1 – Blitzkrieg

#5 Gift Box is a son of Twirling Candy for the John Sadler barn. Joel Rosario is the pilot and they are looking for their fourth straight. Exits a game win in the G1 Santa Anita Handicap and is 2 for 2 at Santa Anita with wins. Rosario is winning 25% at the meet and 56% when he teams up with Sadler. #4 Lone Sailor hails from the Thom Amoss barn with Flavien Prat in the saddle. He just got beat a neck in the G2 Oaklawn Handicap and is a real gamer. He’s a long range closer working well in the morning.  #1 Blitzkrieg comes from the Doug O’Neill barn. This son of War Front looks to go five straight and make the turf to dirt switch shipping back from Golden Gate.

Race #9 – The G1 Shoemaker Mile – 1 mile on the turf – 8:03 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #8 – Delta Prince / #5 – Catapult / #4 – River Boyne

#8 Delta Prince is a son of Street Cry (IRE) for trainer James Jerkens. Joel Rosario is the pilot and was impressive winning the G1 Makers Mile at Keeneland. He’s been off for 45 days working sharp in the morning. He’s faced some tough guys and should be a major danger. #5 Catapult is a son of Kitten’s Joy for John Sadler. Drayden Van Dyke in the irons and just missed as a beaten favorite in the G1 Kilroe Mile. He is two for two ITM at SA and loves the mile distance as a stout closer. #4 River Boyne is a son of Dandy Man for Jeff Mullins. Flavien Prat in the driver’s seat and 3rd off the layoff. He was a beaten favorite in the G3 San Franciso at Golden Gate. He loves to launch a late bid and will be heard from at the top of the lane.

Thistledown

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Diamond King / #3 – Lone Sailor / #2 – Flame Away

Race #9 – The G3 Ohio Derby – 1 1/8 – 5:10 pm EDT

#7 Diamond King comes in for the John Servis barn winning 24%. Frankie Pennington is back aboard and they are rolling back 3rd off a layoff exiting a bumpy trip in the Preakness. Pennington seems to fit nicely, and this colt has a bullet work in the morning to prepare. He’s a solid runner who has run into trouble for the big races and needs a clean trip today. With a little bit of racing luck, he will play the role of a stalker looking to shine down the lane. #3 Lone Sailor has the services of Irad Ortiz in the saddle for trainer Thom Amoss. He exits the Preakness with a wide trip and a solid 5th place effort against Justify. He’s cutting back in distance and Ortiz gets the return engagement. This runner will come calling at the 1/4 pole under a full head of steam. #2 Flame Away brings Jose Lezcano in the driver’s seat for trainer Mark Casse. This son of Scat Daddy has controlled speed and his only poor outing was in the Kentucky Derby. Lezcano is going to send this colt and try and control the pace. If he’s allowed to dictate the pace to his liking he’ll be tough to reel in.

Belmont

Race #4 – The $100,000 Wild Applause – 1 mile on the turf – 3:09 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Got Stormy / #3 – Punked / #2 – Brattata

#7 Got Stormy exits a win in the Penn Oaks. Today she gets a rider switch to John Velasquez for the Mark Casse barn. She is 4/4 ITM going this distance and comes right back off a brief rest. 2018 has been a good year for this gal as she seems to be figuring out the game with every effort. Look for a repeat in the hands of Johnny V. #3 Punked is making her 3rd start off a layoff for the hot Chad Brown barn. She came over from Ireland and got into a little trouble at Keeneland two races back. But after getting 2nd time Lasix she scored with a clean trip at Belmont going 1 1/16 on the turf. Javier Castellano in the irons and he gets the call right back off her last win. Chad Brown scores 27% off the last race win coming back. #2 Brattata has Jose Ortiz as the reinsman going from dirt to turf, and dropping in class may be just what the doctor ordered. Ortiz was at Royal Ascot this week and now he’s back in New York where he holds court. She’s a closer and Ortiz is a tactical rider who knows when to make his move.

Santa Anita

BetPTC.com Selections / #4 American Anthem / #7 Stone Hands / #6 Touching Rainbows

Race  #11 – The G2 San Carlos – 7f – 8:00 pm EDT

#4 American Anthem has the services of Mike Smith for Bob Baffert. They are winning at a 42% clip as a team and make their second start of the 2018 season. This son of Bodemeister is 4/4 ITM going 7 panels and exits off a win at Churchill Downs. 15 days after the winning prep he came right back and scorched a bullet work in 59 flat going 5f. He has the look of a perfect stalker and should be effective coming back to California. #7 Stone Hands comes in for Doug O’Neill and has the barn rider, Mario Gutierrez. He is 8/9 ITM over the track looking for three in a row. They have been going to the winner’s circle at a 25% clip. He should be up close and stalk the leaders. #6 Touching Rainbows has Flavien Prat aboard for Phil D’Amato looking for 5 straight. This is 3rd off the layoff and they win 20% on this move. He is on the stretch out from 6f to 7f and should be closer to the front. Prat is an excellent judge of pace and should send right to the lead.

BetPTC.com – Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

The winter ovals are opening the doors and we’re ready to follow the horses as they make their next stop. But as we ready for the next oval, we need to keep our eyes open for problem runners who have an excuse. They may not have had a good break, stumbled or blocked down the lane. As handicappers, we are always looking to build our bankroll and there is no better time than now. – Just keep your eyes peeled and have these runners on your radar. – Best of luck from your friends at BetPTC.com!

Churchill Downs

11/18/17

Race #4 – #9 – Sky Promise – 1 1/16 on the turf

#9 – Sky Promise = Son of Sky Mesa for the Ken McPeek barn. He was adding first-time blinkers and had the services of Robby Albarado. The track was listed as yielding and he seems to enjoy a surface with a little “cut” to it. This day he was tracking from the back and made a strong 4 wide bid to get the show dough.

Race #7 – #2 – Like a Haint – 6f on the main

#2 – Like a Haint = Filly by Archarcharch is fresh off two straight claims and was a beaten favorite the last two. She loves CD going 5/6 ITM. She had the services of apprentice Edgar Morales and was rallying strongly on the outside. The leader and eventual winner floated out a little bit near the wire and won by a head. Some would call it race riding and others would dismiss it as a bad streak of luck. – You’ll need to follow her back as she’ll probably head to Turfway Park.

Fair Grounds

11/18/17

Race #2 – #9 – Much Trouble – 1 and 70 yards on the main

#9 -Much Trouble = Miguel Mena in the saddle for Thom Amoss. Shipping in from Indiana Grand and was a beaten favorite last out. He owned a bullet work over the course and looked to fit. He was carried out at the 3/4 and forced to check up sharply at the 1/8th pole. After all this, he still managed a strong place finish.

Del Mar

11/19/17

Race #7 – #10- Pants on Fire – 1 mile on the turf

#10 – Pants on Fire = Corey Nakatani in the irons for Richard Baltas.  3-yr-old filly by Sir Percy (GB) is regally bred for the green. She came flying and would have taken flight if she had wings. The way she maneuvered through runners and weaved in and out closing like gangbusters. – Follow her right back.

Race #8 – #2 – Solid Wager – $100k Cary Grant – 7f on the main

#2 – Solid Wager = Peter Miller is the conditioner and he has been red-hot winning 33%. He was a beaten favorite last out and was left at the post this day. – Victor Espinoza saved ground and swung out gamely making a strong 5 wide move. Everything seemed to fit and he’ll give them fits next time out.

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

Fair Grounds

12/26/16

Race #1 – #3 – King of Honour – 1 mile on the dirt

He was in great tracking mode under Colby Hernandez and was forced to check up sharply at the 7/8th’s pole. – Top notch trainer Karl Broberg claimed this runner, and he’ll be worth a great play next out.

Race #2 – #2 – Red Hot Cherry – 1 mile on the turf

She was bumped hard at the break and settled out nicely. Right at the 3/16th’s pole she was forced to steady and run wide. She still finished up a solid second on this day.

Race #3 – #6 – Right Squall – 6f on the dirt

Cisco Torres was in the irons aboard the odds-on favorite, and bumped strongly at the break. Torres found his best stride and made a strong run to win the race. – Red-hot trainer Joe Sharp claimed him off this effort and he does very well new comers to his barn.

Race #8 – #8 – Wyeth – 5 1/2 f on the turf

Thom Amoss trainee who was bumped at the start and forced to take up off heels at the 3/16th’s pole. – After this wide troubled trip he still managed a very good effort for the show spot.

Race #10 – #8 – Daddy’s Placer – 1 mile and 70 yards

Florent Geroux in the saddle for Thom Amoss and the two-year-old was wide on both turns and five wide into the lane. – He’ll benefit from this effort and the barn will have all the screws tightened to go next out.

BetPTC.com – Horses to Watch – 2/23/2016

Horses to Watch – Ed Meyer

Can you feel the days getting longer by the minute and the stakes races drawing closer ? – Me too ! – This time of year has every horse player sitting on the edge of their seats waiting to see the next marquee race unveiling great things to come. At the time of this post there are only 75 days until we’ll be watching the 142nd renewal of The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports ! – But don’t jump the gun just yet, here are some runners you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled the next time they take the track. They are worth a good hard look, and a nice piece of your wagering bankroll.

Gulfstream Park

Race #3 – 2/15/16 – #2 – 7f on the dirt

#2 – Twenty in One = Closed very fast down the lane under the guidance of Rafael Hernandez in a 3/4 time of 109.2. – She caught a “speed fest” on this day, and anything that isn’t as salty should fit her like a glove for the Tomlinson barn.

Gulfstream Park

Race #7 –  2/15/16 – #11 – One mile on the turf

#11 – Purely Bay = J.J. Castellano had the call and his runner was making a “second off the layoff” run. Castellano knew he couldn’t catch the leaders as he weaved through traffic trying to save ground, but his dead last explosive run may be just what handicappers could expect next out. Looked like he had plenty in the tank wrapped up, and that may work out well for the punters.

Santa Anita

Race #1 – 2/15/16 – #4 -One mile mdn turf event

#4 – Lucy De = Santiago Gonzalez had the assignment for Mike Puype, and did absolutely nothing wrong. – This may be a case a running a “winner’s race” but not getting your picture taken. This was a very strong effort, and they were bested by the (1-2) chalk getting nailed at the wire by a head. – If Gonzalez stays aboard and Puype keeps to task, you’ll want to bet early and often when they enter.

Fair Grounds

Race #11- 2/20/16 – #2 – 1 1/16 on the main track

#2 – Mo Tom = Corey Lanerie was in the saddle for Thom Amoss, and this race was on the minds of every horse player that watched the Risen Star Stakes. – This son of Uncle Mo was far back in the field and didn’t move too early. Lanerie had two graded stakes to his credit this day, and the best was yet to come. He received a little urging and came off the rail briefly to pass tiring runners and dropped right back over to the fence. – Saving ground was a perfect move as he was starting to accelerate when Bistraya drifted over causing the colt to swerve and check sharply. Once Lanerie was in the clear they were inside the 1/8th pole when his mount picked up his action and started to close strongly. – Distance shouldn’t be a problem, and if all things come back fine. He’ll learn from this effort and only get better down the road.

Gulfstream Park

Race #5 – 2/21/16 – #8 – 1 mile on the turf

#8 – Akron Gold = Joel Rosario was named, but was on the shelf due to an injury. – J.J. Castellano picked up the mount, and this three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’ Oro was pushed out going into the first turn. She settled nicely after the losing some ground, and spun around the field at the 5/16th’s pole three wide. She drew off and looked like a winner, but was bested in the shadow of the wire. – All said and done, losing ground on the first turn and going wide as they approached the stretch may have been just enough to get beat this day. Hard to fault the connections as they few mistakes, so I’ll file this one under bet with both hands next out.
