Saratoga

Race #8 – The G1 Test – 7f – 5:06 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #5 – Royal Charlotte / #2 – Bellafina / #3 – Covfefe

#5 Royal Charlotte is a daughter of Cairo Prince for Chad Brown who is winning 21% with Javier Castellano in the irons. She’s a perfect 4 for 4 and gets added ground with a field loaded with speed. She is stepping up, and Castellano stalked and powered right past in the G3 Victory Ride last out. The faster they go the better she’ll like it. #2 Bellafina is a daughter of Quality Road with Flavien Prat coming in from the left coast. She’s been off 3 months and backs up to a distance where she’s a perfect 2 for 2. Her early foot should allow her to be right on the engine and Prat wins 25% with early speedrunners. #3 Covfefe comes in for trainer Brad Cox and Joel Rosario in the saddle. They ship in from CD as a beaten favorite and Cox wins 31% looking for payback. Rosario is an excellent reinsman and should send right from the gate break. She has a solid work at CD and that should have her ready to strut her stuff.

Race #9 – The G1 Whitney – 1 1/8 – 5:46 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #8 – Preservationist / #6 – McKinzie / #4 – Thunder Snow

#8 Preservationist is a son of Arch for James Jerkins and Junior Alvarado. This is his 3rd off the layoff where the barn wins 17% as they seek his 4th straight win. Cuts back in distance and his form cycle is hard to argue. Alvarado fits like a glove and should be laying just off the speed. #6 McKinzie is a son of Street Sense for Bob Baffert and Mike Smith. Been off 56 days and was blocked and forced to steady in the G1 Met. A perfect stalker with solid works coming in from Del Mar. He was a beaten favorite last out and Baffert comes back to win 24% on this move. #4 Thunder Snow hails from the barn of Saeed bin Suroor with Christophe Soumillon in the irons. He’s a hard knocker who’s been off 56 days. He always gives a strong effort but falls a bit short. He worked 7f at Belmont to prepare and will come calling late in the lane. If he wins it would not be any surprise in this solid field.

Mountaineer

Race #8 – The G3 West Virginia Derby – 1 1/8 – 5:35 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #9 – Mr. Money / #8 – Math Wizard / #1 – Chess Chief

#9 Mr. Money is a son of Goldencents and winner of the G3 Indiana Derby as he seeks his 4th straight win for Bret Calhoun. Gabriel Saez in the irons and worked a bullet off his last win. He should be a major pace player and be hard to handle for a track that plays kindly to speed. #8 Math Wizard was rolling late in the G3 Indiana Derby. Florent Geroux picks up the assignment making the 3rd off the layoff move. His bullet work coming out of the Indiana Derby is a strong sign. He will come running late and Geroux will push the button just at the right time. #1 Chess Chief comes in for trainer Dallas Stewart and Miguel Mena. 3rd off the layoff and was rolling for a minor award in the G3 Indiana Derby. Love his work over the deep CD oval and plays the role of a longe range closer. If the pace falls apart he’ll be a major player.

Del Mar

Race #8 – The G2 Yellow Ribbon – 1 1/16 on the turf – 8:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #4 – Vasilika / #1 – Beau Recall / #9 – Elysea’s World

#4 Vasilika comes from the barn of Jerry Hollendorfer with Julien Leparoux taking over for Flavien Prat who is at Saratoga. She is seeking her 5th in a row and loves Del Mar going 2 for 3 ITM. The barn wins 22% off the last race win and had two months to come in rested. #1 Beau Recall hails from the barn of Brad Cox and Drayden Van Dyke winning 30% at the meet. They ship in from Belmont and his dam Greta D’argent has 8 starters, 6 winners, and 5 turf winners to her credit. She’s a strong closer and will come rolling late for Slam Dunk Racing. #9 Elysea’s World is a daughter of Champs Elysees for Richard Baltas and Joe Talamo. Her strong late kick notched her a 4th place effort in the G1 Gamely and some sparkling works on the turf have her ready to fire.

FLORIDA DERBY DAY 2019

BetPTC.com Selections / Weekend Stakes Preview / Ed Meyer

Gulfstream Park Race #8 – The G2 Gulfstream Oaks – 1 1/16 – 3:00 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Dunbar Road / #3 – Point of Honor / #5 – Champagne Anyone

#6 Dunbar Road is perfect for the Chad Brown barn with Irad Ortiz in the irons. She’s a daughter of Quality Road and snatched the lead strongly and never looked back. The one turn distance should allow Ortiz to stay outside and settle. I’m looking for another effort to keep her record intact and Ortiz rises to the occasion on big money days. #3 Point of Honor is a daughter of Curlin and is two for two for the George Weaver barn. Javier Castellano in the saddle and she exits an impressive win in the Suncoast at Tampa Bay. Look for the high percentage Castellano to come rolling around the far turn. She has four solid works at Palm Meadows and hasn’t done anything wrong. #5 Champagne Anyone is a daughter of Street Sense and Chris Landeros up for Ian Wilkes. This is her 3rd off the layoff where the barn wins 17% and adds blinkers today.

Race #13 – The G2 Pan American – 1 1/2 on the turf – 6:00 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Focus Group / #4 – Canessar / #2 – Melmich

#1 Focus Group has been away for five months for the Chad Brown barn and draws the rail with Irad Ortiz. This son of Kitten’s Joy is 2 for 2 ITM at the distance and drops down a notch from G1 company. Brown is winning 30% at the meet and his last effort has me looking for Ortiz to come flying late. #4 Canessar hails from the barn of Arnaud Delacour with Fergal Lynch in the saddle. He’s been off for two months and is 3 for 5 ITM going this far. He had a brutal trip last out and this closer may come rolling for a big piece of the pie. #2 Melmich is making a 3rd off the layoff move and came flying late in the G2 Mac Diamardia. Javier Castellano is attractive when thinking about your wagers and he makes very few mistakes when the money is on the line.

Race #14 – The G1 Florida Derby – 1 1/8 – 6:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #4 – Bourbon War / #3 – Harvey Wallbanger / #9 – Code of Honor

#4 Bourbon War comes in 3rd off a layoff and is lightly raced. I really liked his moves in the G2 FOY and Ortiz gets added distance which should play into his plans perfectly. Mark Hennig is the trainer and he may have a very nice runner who will be heading to Louisville after this race. #3 Harvey Wallbanger comes from the Kenny McPeek barn making his 2nd start of the year. He was very consistent at CD last year and his last work was a scorching bullet going 47 flat. B.J. Hernandez in the irons and rolls in 56 days later off a win in the G2 Holy Bull. Look for a long range launch at the top of the lane. #9 Code of Honor comes in off a win in the G2 FOY and should be a perfect stalker with the added ground. John Velasquez has the call and rolls in off three straight bullet works. Look for a top effort.

Race #9 – The G1 Dubai World Cup – 1 1/4 – 12:40 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #10 – Yoshida / #12 – Thunder Snow / #5 – Seeking the Soul

A field of thirteen going to post in the “Duel in the Desert,” and the entire card should offer solid betting value. #12 Thunder Snow is going to take a great deal of money but will have to overcome the outside post. He is 7 for 7 ITM at Meydan. #3 North America is looking for three straight after having a slow start last year at the break. #5 Seeking the Soul comes in for Dallas Stewart and Mike Smith. He has two hot works at Fair Grounds and the connections aren’t making the trip for nothing.

#10 Yoshida hails from the Bill Mott barn with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. He was a beaten favorite in the G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf. Making the surface switch has Mott winning 13% and if you toss out the two lifetime turf efforts he always comes calling. Ortiz is an excellent reinsman and they won18% as a team last year.

BetPTC.com Breeders’ Cup Preview – 11/3/18

BetPTC.com / Weekend Stakes Preview / Ed Meyer

The 35th edition of the Breeders’ Cup will take place this Friday and Saturday. There are fourteen Breeders’ Cup races with the best runners in the world converging on Louisville, Kentucky. We will cover races 8-11 which make up the $3 million dollar guaranteed late pick-four.

Churchill Downs

Race #8 – The Breeders’ Cup Mile – 1 mile on turf – 3:36 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #7 – Expert Eye / #5 – Oscar Performance / #2 – Next Shares

#7 Expert Eye is the son of Acclamation for Sir Michael Stoute. He gets first Lasix and has been a little short of getting the mile distance. Europeans have a way of getting added distance on these days and has the services of Frankie Dettori in irons. The 55 days away from the races may have him in top order and the connections like their chances. #5 Oscar Performance is a son of Kittens’ Joy for trainer Brian Lynch with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. He is a perfect 3 for 3 at the distance and exits the G1 Woodbine Mile which has served as a great prep for this affair. Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace and should try and wire the field. #2 Next Shares is a son of Archarcharch and exits the G1 Shadwell Mile at Keeneland. Also a key prep for this race and 6 for 9 ITM going the distance. Respected rider Tyler Gafflione in the saddle and trainer Richard Baltas wins 17% on the turf. This closer will come calling late.

Race #9 – The Breeders’ Cup Distaff – 1 1/8 – 4:16 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #11 – Monomoy Girl / #2 – Abel Tasman / #10 – Blue Prize

#11 Monomoy Girl is a daughter of Tapizar for trainer Brad Cox. She is 3 for 3 ITM at Churchill and was a beaten favorite in the G1 Cotillion at Parx.  She won and was disqualified but her works are showing readiness to roll. Florent Geroux in the irons and she is 2 for 2 at the distance. If she runs back to the G1 CCA Oaks she’s gonna be tough to handle. #2 Abel Tasman comes to post for Bob Baffert and Mike Smith in the saddle. Toss out the last race where she bobbled and came off slow. According to Baffert she spiked a fever and wasn’t feeling herself. 3rd start off the layoff, solid works and 4 for 4 ITM at the distance makes her a player. #10 Blue Prize is a daughter of Pure Prize for Ignacio Correas. “Jersey” Joe Bravo in the saddle and she is 5 for 5 ITM at CD. That was a nice win in the G1 Spinster and Correas is winning 44% looking for 4-in-a-row.

Race #10 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf – 1 1/2 on the turf – 4:56 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #12 – Waldgeist / #2 – Enable / #1 – Talismanic

#12 Waldgeist is a son of Galileo for the Andre Fabre yard. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a game 2nd in the Gr1 Arc de Triomphe. He looks to be sitting on a huge effort and the top shelf connections have been speaking good things all week. #2 Enable is an ultra talented filly for trainer John Gosden. She has rolled off eight straight wins and looks to be the one to beat. Frankie Dettori is the reinsman and she’s been training well at Churchill Downs applying the final touches. She is 3 for 3 at the distance and her only knock is that Arc winners are 0 for 8 winning this event. #1 Talismanic exits a key race in the Gr1 Arc and won this event last year paying a handsome price. Is a repeat in the cards? He has excellent breeding and will come calling late in the lane.

Race #11 – The G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic – 1 1/4 – 5:44 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2- Thunder Snow / #14 – Accelerate / #6 – McKinzie

#2 Thunder Snow has been looking good in the morning works over the CD oval. This is his 3rd start off the layoff and ran a huge effort in the G1 Jockey Gold Cup getting bested by a neck at the wire. He is 3 for 4 ITM going 1 1/4 and should be in mid pack poised to pounce. #14 Accelerate is looking to go four in a row for trainer John Sadler. Joel Rosario is the reinsman and has been aboard his last two impressive wins. He loves the distance going 4 for 4 and won the G1 Pacific Classic by 12 lengths. Loves the distance, the rider fits like a glove, and he’s gonna be tough down the lane. #6 McKinzie is a son of Street Sense who won the Kentucky Derby. Bob Baffert and Mike Smith team up and they do every good work when the money is on the line. Should be forwardly placed with a rider who is an excellent judge of pace. Can be a major player today.

Belmont Race #7 – The G1 Vosburgh – 6f – 4:09 pm

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Imperial Hint / #5 – Silver Ride / #2 – Maniacal

#6 Imperial Hint has Javier Castellano in the saddle for Luis Carvajal. Tons of speed in here and this stalker may be the perfect answer. He’s been off for 2 months since Saratoga and been working bullets in the morning at Parx. He’s looking for three in a row and can lay just off the speed. This son of Imperialism is going to be tough to handle. #5 Silver Ride is a son of Candy Ride for trainer Brian Lynch. Jose Ortiz gets the call and been away for 50 days.  He is three for five ITM and has the look of a solid closer. Ortiz is a big plus and with a clean trip, he could be a major player. #2 Maniacal is a son of Kitten’s Joy making the turf to dirt switch for trainer Mike Maker where he wins 17% on this move. John Velasquez in the saddle and was a beaten favorite at Kentucky Downs. He comes back to the dirt and is one for one at Belmont.

Race #8 – The G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic – 1 1/2 on the turf – 4:42 pm

BetPTC.com Selections / #8 – Channel Maker / #1 – Robert Bruce / #3 – Sadler’s Joy

#8 Channel Maker is a son of English Channel for trainer Bill Mott. Jose Ortiz is the reinsman and is making the third start off a layoff move. He should enjoy the distance going two for three ITM and Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace. He’s a strong closing sort and will come rolling at the top of the lane. His dam In Return has 4 starters, 3 winners, 2 stakes winners, and 2 turf winners to her credit. #1 Robert Bruce comes in for Chad Brown and Irad Ortiz in the saddle. Brown is winning 26% at the meet and “Robert” exits an impressive win in the G1 Arlington Million. He’s been off for 49 days and is a stout closer. Irad Ortiz won on his birthday aboard Robert Bruce and looks to keep the party going on the stretch out in distance. #3 Sadler’s Joy is a son of Kitten’s Joy for trainer Thom Albertrani. This is his third off the layoff start and was a beaten favorite in the G1 Sword Dancer. He should come calling late in the lane and must be respected.

Race #10 – The G1 Jockey Gold Cup – 1 1/4 – 5:50 pm

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Diversify / #8 – Thunder Snow / #4 – Patch

#6 Diversify is a son of Bellamy Road for trainer Richard Violette. This New York bred is eight for eight ITM at Belmont. He’s been off for 56 days and exits an impressive win in the G1 Whitney. This son of Bellamy Road is two for two at the distance and been working bullets in the morning. Irad Ortiz will him in high cruising speed turning for home. #8 Thunder Snow comes to post for Saeed bin Suroor with Christophe Soumillion in the irons. He exits the Gr1 Juddmonte International at York and was doing very well in Dubai. He cuts back in distance and is a closer in the hands of world class rider Soumillion. #4  Patch comes into the race for the Todd Pletcher barn and Calumet Farm. Luis Saez in the irons and is 3rd off the layoff. This son of Union Rags can come running late and light up the tote board.

Graded Stakes Preview – Saturday, July 15, 2017

BetPTC.com / Graded Stakes Preview / Ed Meyer

Delaware Park

Race #8 – G3 Kent Stakes – 1 1/8 on the turf – 4:55 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections – #5 – Master Plan (2-1) / #6 – Frostmourne (8-5) / #2 – Lunaire (9-2)

Master Plan = Son of Twirling Candy moves up a notch off his victory in the $50,000 Stanton Stakes. After coming back from Meydan in the UAE Derby he found a new home on turf. Tyler Gafflione in the irons for Todd Pletcher and they are winning (24%) as a team. Pletcher is 2/2 ITM over the course and his runner has faced some tough guys in his travels; Tapwrit, Thunder Snow and Epicharis to name a few. His breeding suggests the turf fits his liking, and the rider is a rising star. Frostmourne = Joel Rosario aboard for Christophe Clement. This is third off the layoff move exiting the G2 Penn Mile. Two races back he received Lasix and this has helped him kick off 2017 in fine fashion. Lunaire = Son of Malibu Moon has the services of Mike Smith and is 2/3 ITM on the turf. He looks to be evolving into a seasoned runner, and in time he’ll be more of a major player.

Race #9 – Delaware Handicap – 1 1/4  on the main – 5:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections – #5 – Songbird (1-5) / #3 – Weep No More (6-1) / #4 – Line of Best Fit (12-1)

Songbird = Mike Smith aboard for Jerry Hollendorfer and they have a monster of a filly here. She is 13/13 ITM with 12 wins. She has two races at 1 1/8th at two- and is maturing into a gal we’ll be talking about for years. Her works at Santa Anita look solid and is 2nd off the layoff winning the G1 Odgen Phipps at Belmont. Weep No More = 3rd start off the layoff for the Rusty Arnold barn. 1st-time blinkers, and she has run 4th and 5th against Songbird. Even with her “A +” game, she’ll have her hands full, but minor awards are not out of the question. Line of Best Fit = Solid gal who has been very consistent a few class levels below for trainer Kieron Magee (38%). She could easily be a part of the exotics.

Indiana Grand

Race #8 – G3 Indiana Oaks – 1 1/16 on the main track – 9:21 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections – #4 – Majestic Quality (3-1) / #8 – Mopotism (7-5) / #6 – Stonetacular (7-2)

Majestic Quality = Kent Desormeaux in the irons for his brother Keith. Ever since she came off the turf four races back, she has been looking better by the step. Her last effort in the G2 Summertime Oaks had her in full gear rolling late in the lane. I like her last two races and feel she is maturing into a fine young lady. They ship in from California and the “Brother’s D” come to the Hoosier state to take down the money. Mopotism = This daughter of Uncle Mo looked great last out and leaves California with a very sharp work to her credit. She was knocked around quite a bit in the Kentucky Oaks and has the look of a freshened filly. Stonetacular = She will be handled by B.J. Hernadez and shows solid speed. She was a beaten favorite last out and the Neil Howard barn comes back to win (28%) off this angle. She is 5/5 ITM moving up the ladder in good hands.

Race #9 – Indiana Derby – 1 1/16 on the main track- 9:49 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections – #9 – Untrapped (6-1) / #2 – Irap (8-5) / #3 – Wild Shot (8-1)

Untrapped = 2nd off the layoff for this son of Trappe Shot. The Ohio Derby run was good but not a peak effort. Ricardo Santana in the saddle for Steve Asmussen and this colt may be feeling his old self again. The last race didn’t use all of his reserves and I think he’ll come back and report home better. Santan has finished no worse than third and fits him well. This colt will come calling late in the lane. Irap = Reddam Racing Llc, Doug O’Neill, and Mario Gutierrez make a good team. He followed the same Derby trail run and it was grueling. Irap was impressive down the lane in the Ohio Derby and is coming back in less than three weeks. We’ll know about two minutes after post time if the Ohio Derby took too much away from this solid colt. Wild Shot = Rusty Arnold brings a nice colt to post. After his win in the Pat Day Mile at Churchill, I started seeing a good deal of talent. Look for an up close stalking effort making a move at the top of the lane.
