Churchill Downs

Race #9 – The G2 American Turf – 1 1/16 on the turf – 3:37 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Turf Selections / #1 – A Thread of Blue / #2 – Social Paranoia / #8 – Avie’s Flatter

#1 A Thread of Blue has been off two months for the Kiaran McLaughlin barn. Luis Saez in the saddle for this son of Hard Spun. He is a perfect stalker and can take over the lead if the fractions are slow. He is seeking his 4th win in a row and Saez opts for this mount over Social Paranoia. #2 Social Paranoia is a son of Street Boss for trainer Todd Pletcher. His first start of 2019 was super impressive and switches riders to Manny Franco. He is 6 for 6 ITM lifetime and a big effort may be on the agenda for this late running colt. #8 Avie’s Flatter is a son of Flatter for trainer Josie Carroll. He is looking for his fourth straight win exiting off an impressive win in the G3 Transylvania.

Race #11 – The G1 – Turf Classic – 1 1/8 on the turf – 5:25 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2 – Raging Bull / #9 – Synchrony / #12 – Bricks and Mortar

#2 Raging Bull is a son of Dark Angel (IRE) for trainer Chad Brown with Joel Rosario in the irons. He is a late runner who will make his presence felt at the top of the lane while making his 2nd start of the year. Heavily backed last out, Bull gave a very good account of himself last time out. He has an explosive turn of foot. #9 Synchrony is a son of Tapit for trainer Mike Stidham. John Velasquez in the saddle and he is 1 for 1 ITM at CD. This is his 3rd start off the layoff where the barn wins 23%. Look for Johnny V to come rolling late in the stretch. #12 Bricks and Mortar hails from the Chad Brown barn with Irad Ortiz as the pilot. 2nd off the layoff seeking four straight wins. He is 3 for 3 going the distance and Ortiz is a strong finisher down the lane. The only knock is overcoming the #12 post.

Race #12 – The 145th running of the G1 Kentucky Derby – 1 1/4 – 6:50 pm EDT

*** Omaha Beach is a late scratch and #20 – Bodexpress draws into the race ***

BetPTC.com Selections / #17 – Roadster / #16 – Game Winner / #6 Vekoma

#17 Roadster is one of three runners for the Bob Baffert camp. He is a son of Quality Road and Florent Geroux is in the saddle. This is his 3rd start off the layoff, lightly raced, and if you watched the G1 Santa Anita Derby, you’ll see an incredible effort. He settled in, dropped back and made an explosive move around the bend. Geroux is an excellent reinsman and I’m looking for him to wear the roses this year. #16 Game Winner is a son of Candy Ride for trainer Bob Baffert. 1 for 1 at CD and 3rd off the layoff for this colt. Since winning the B/C Juvenile last year he owns a pair of 2nd place efforts in the G2 Rebel and G1 Santa Anita Derby. He’s a game runner and does very little wrong. I’m looking for a perfect stalking trip to make it a Baffert exacta. #6 Vekoma is a son of Candy Ride for trainer George Weaver. Javier Castellano in driver’s seat, and this guy has a wicked turn of foot. He should stalk just off the pace and make a move around the far turn. If Mother Nature gets ugly, he is bred well to love a wet surface.

Aqueduct

Race #10 – The G2 Wood Memorial – 1 1/8 – 6:00 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #1 – Tax / #4 – Haikal / #2 – Tacitus

#1 Tax is a son of Arch for the Danny Gargan barn with Junior Alvarado in the irons. This gelded son of Arch should be up close and settle nicely. His victory in the G3 Withers was better than appeared as he stumbled and still hung in to win. Alvarado is rolling to the winner’s circle at a 24% clip at Aqueduct. #4 Haikal comes from the barn of Kiaran McLaughlin with Rajiv Maragh in the driver’s seat. He is looking for his 4th straight win and 3rd off the layoff for this stone cold closer. He may be maturing at the right time and I’m looking for a strong effort. #2 Tacitus is a son of Tapit for Bill Mott. He’s a perfect stalker and should enjoy the added ground. 2nd start of the year and 2nd time Lasix where Mott wins 20% on the medication change.

Keeneland

Race #10 – The G2 Bluegrass – 1 1/8 – 6:23 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #2 – Vekoma / #8 – Win Win Win / #11 – So Alive

#2 Vekoma exits the G2 Fountain of Youth off a less than ideal trip. They switch riders from Manny Franco to Javier Castellano and he is the new ‘money man.’ 2nd time Lasix for this son of Candy Ride for George Weaver and he should get a perfect stalking trip. He is lightly raced and deserves serious consideration before making a wager. The barn wins 25% on the medication move and the rider change is a positive sign. #8 Win Win Win is a son of Hat Trick for the Mike Trombetta barn. He was a beaten favorite in the Tampa Bay Derby rolling 5 wide and shows a red hot work. Irad Ortiz back in the saddle and that moves his chances up greatly. #11 So Alive is a son of Super Saver and is a bit of an outside shooter. He is lightly raced and has the services of Luis Saez in the saddle. He can easily pick up his head and come rolling for minor awards today.

Santa Anita

Race #8 – The G1 Santa Anita Derby – 1 1/8 – 6:30 pm EDT

BetPTC.com Selections / #6 – Game Winner / #5 – Instagrand / #3 – Nolo Contesto

#6 Game Winner is a monster son of Candy Ride. Joel Rosario has the call for Bob Baffert and they were getting to them late in the G2 Rebel getting beat a dirty nose. Overall, he didn’t have to win the race and use all his gas, but he looked terrific just picking them up late in the lane. I think he is a good looking colt and it looks like Team Baffert is loaded again. His race to lose at Santa Anita. #5 Instagrand is a speedy son of Into Mischief and Flavien Prat will be calling the shots. He is lightly raced and owns some sparkling works at Los Al in preparation for this big race. If he gets loose and can go the distance he may play a perfect role of the spoiler. #3 Nolo Contesto is a perfect stalker who had an eventful trip last out. He’s gonna need his A game against this compact field as Joe Talamo picks up the action in the saddle. The added ground won’t hurt and Talamo has sprung his fair share of upsets.
