BetPTC.com Analysis / #8 – Speaker’s Corner / #5 – First Captain / #4 – Mind Control
#8 Speaker’s Corner is a late runner for Bill Mott with Junior Alvarado in the saddle. This son of Street Sense has good tactical speed and can be a handful if left alone on the front end. He is seeking three straight with good works coming into the race. #5 First Captain is a stalking son of Curlin for Shug McGaughey and Jose Ortiz aboard. This is his 2nd start off the layoff where the barn wins 20%. His last race looked like a solid prep moving forward and should sit in mid pack waiting on the cue. #4 Mind Control hails from the Todd Pletcher barn with Joel Rosario in the driver’s seat. He is 6 for 6 ITM at AQU and sports some sharp works coming into the race. He should seek a mid flight stalking trip and look to pounce at asking.
Race#4 – The G2 Santa Anita Oaks – 1 1/16 miles dirt – 4:30 pm
BetPTC.com Analysis / #5 – Adare Manor / #2 – Ain’t Easy / #3 – Under the Stars
#5 Adare Manor is a speedy daughter of Uncle Mo for Tim Yakteen and John Velasquez aboard. Her last two efforts have been incredible and if she continues to improve we’ll be hearing from her for some time. Johhny V wins 22% with speed runners and looks to be a major player. #2 Ain’t Easy hails from the Phil D’Amato barn with J.J. Hernandez in the saddle. She is 2 for 2 ITM at SA and should lay just off the lead waiting for a seam. Her bullet work looks attractive in the field. #3 Under the Stars is a daughter of Pioneer of the Nile and three for three ITM over the course. Mike Smith picks up the mount and should be up close stalking the pace.
Race#6 – The G1 Santa Anita Derby – 1 1/8 miles dirt – 5:30 pm
BetPTC.com Analysis / #3 – Forbidden Kingdom / #4 – Messier / #6 – Taiba
#3 Forbidden Kingdom is a speedy son of American Pharoah with J.J. Hernandez in the irons. He is a perfect two straight wins at SA and should be dictating the pace from the gate break. The rider wins 23% with speed type runners and has improved greatly since stumbling at the start facing Messierthree races back. Good things are coming his way. #4 Messier is s stalker from the Tim Yakteen barn with John Velasquez in the driver’s seat. He is coming off a two month layoff and may need a good race to catch up to the likes of Forbidden Kingdom who is third off the layoff today. Either way, he could fire fresh and deliver a knockout, or show good promise for races down the road. #6 Taiba is a son of Gun Runner who won at first asking for Tim Yakteen and Mike Smith in the saddle today. He was ultra impressive in his maiden win and will have to improve off that score to take the money today. He sports sharp works and like the other Tim Yakteen runner, both came from the Bob Baffert barn prior.
