Del Mar – Breeders’ Cup

Race #6 – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint – 5f turf – 5:50 pm Analysis / #7 – Armour / #8 – Averly Jane / #6 – Twilight Gleaming

#7 Armour is a son of No Nay Never and will come calling when the real running begins. He has a wicked late turn of foot and facing some of the best sprinters in Europe. He hails from the Richard Hannon yard, and has the services of ultra talented Ryan Moore. #8 Averly Jane will be the pacesetter and can be dangerous if left alone as she seeks her fifth straight win for Wesley Ward and Tyler Gaffalione. She exits off a win in a key prep for the race and can turn out the lights if not pressed. #6 Twilight Gleaming goes post ward Wesley Ward and can get perfect trip with stablemate Averly Jane setting strong fractions for her to close into. Strong closing rider Irad Ortiz in the irons and he wins 22% with late running turf closers.

Race #7 – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies – 1 1/16 – 6:30 pm Analysis / #6 – Echo Zulu / #4 – Tarabi / #3 – Sequist

#6 Echo Zulu should be right on the front and work out a pressing trip whoever the joins the pace. Steve Asmussen is the conditioner and Joel Rosario in the saddle. 3rd off the layoff for this daughter of Gun Runner who is regally bred and a perfect 3 for 3 lifetime.  Price will be short and may be free spot in multi race wagers. #4 Tarabi is a late runner and had an eventful trip last out colliding with the gate. She goes to the track for Cherie DeVaux and Javier Castellano. She sports some sharp works after her rough trip last out.  #3 Sequist is a deep closing daughter of Nyquist for Dallas Stewart and Junior Alvarado. 3rd off the layoff for a barn who springs upsets with runners on the marquee days.

Race #8 – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf – 1 mile on the turf – 7:10 pm Analysis / #1 – Pizza Blanca / #4 – Turnerloose / #14 – California Angel

#1 Pizza Blanca comes off a 47 day break from the races as Christophe Clement looks for the winner’s circle with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. She exits the G1 Natalma at Woodbine which has served as a strong prep. The barn wins 24% with babies and Ortiz wins 18% with turf closers. Plenty of pace to set her up as they turn for home. #4 Turnerloose should be the main speed as she set the fractions in the G2  Jessamine and managed to hang on for the show dough. She is a daughter of Nyquist for Brad Cox and Florent Geroux in the saddle. 3rd time off the layoff and the barn wins 34% with beaten favorites as she exits Keeneland and cuts back in distance. #14 California Angel is a daughter of California Chrome for trainer George Leonard III and retains Rafael Bejarano in the driver’s seat. This is your sentimental longshot as the backside is really rooting for this gal as she was a $5,500 purchase. But, all that aside she came rolling in the G2 Jessamine circling eight wide getting up in the shadow of the wire.

Race #9 – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile – 1 1/16 – 7:50 pm Analysis / #1 – Jack Christopher / #12 – Corniche / #9 – Pinehurst

#1 Jack Christopher [SCRATCHED] exits off a win in the G1 Champagne which has served as a key prep for this race. Jose Ortiz aboard for Chad Brown and they win 29% as a team. He looks to be able to secure a ground saving position and move at the right time. They have a bullet work under his belt and ship in from Belmont where Brown wins 28% going to new surroundings. #12 Corniche goes to post for Bob Baffert and Mike Smith. The outside post will only have Smith sending and securing position while trying to save some ground. This son of Quality Road is 2 for 2 lifetime and won impressively in the G1 American Pharaoh at Santa Anita. Look for a stalking move and trying to takeover under the professional hands of Smith down the backstretch. #9 Pinehurst appears to be the rabbit for Baffert’s  Corniche, but may have more up his sleeve. He is 2 for 2 lifetime and gets added distance which should have him running easy on the lead for Bob Baffert and John Velasquez in the irons. Baffert wins 35% with babies and has a sharp work coming into the race. Johnny V wins 22% with early speed types.

Race #10 – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf – 1 mile on the turf – 8:30 pm Analysis / #2 – Albahr / #1 – Modern Games / #10 – Portfolio Company

#2 Albahr hails from the Charlie Appleby yard with Frankie Dettori in the saddle. Exits the G1 Summer at Woodbine as a key prep for this race, and Mr. Applebee wins 80% with his babies. He hopped at the start and still mowed them down in the stretch under Dettori circling the field in the Goldolphin colors. His dam Falls of Lora (IRE) has 4 starters, 4 winners, 4 turf winners to her credit. Dettori staying aboard seals the deal. Europeans have dominated this race in the past. #1 Modern Game also conditioned by Charlie Appleby with William Buick in the irons. He is 4 for 5 ITM lifetime and gets added ground today. He should be a bit closer to the pace and being on the hedge allows Buick to save plenty of ground for a well timed move. #10 Portfolio Company is a well timed stalker with Flavien Prat for Chad Brown. 3rd off the layoff and exits the G2 Pilgrim which has served as a prep in the past. Prat is winning 26% on the turf and 29% with Chad Brown. Don’t leave off your tickets.
