Santa Anita

Race#5 – The G2 San Gabriel – 1 1/8 on the turf – 4:08 pm Analysis / #2- Friar’s Road / #4 – Hit the Road / #5 – Majestic Eagle

#2 Friar’s Road is a late runner from the Mike McCarthy barn with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. 2nd off the layoff and cuts back in distance. Ortiz is an excellent judge of pace and will have this son of Quality Road in high gear as they straighten for the stretch drive. He is 3 for 3 ITM on the turf and Ortiz wins 21% with turf closers. #4 Hit the Road hails from the Dan Blacker barn with Umberto Rispoli in the irons. This son of More than Ready comes off a two month layoff and sports a sharp work to tighten down the screws. Rispoli will have him rolling as they turn for home as he wins 21% with his late runners on the sod. #5 Majestic Eagle goes to post for Neil Drysdale and John Velasquez. 3rd time off the shelf and is a stalking sort in this field. Johnny V is an excellent judge of pace and scores 44% ITM with stalkers on the greensward.

Race#6 – The G2 San Antonio – 1 1/16 – 4:40pm Analysis / #4 – Hot Rod Charlie / #5 – Eight Rings / #7 – Azul Coast

#4 Hot Rod Charlie comes off a 50 day break for trainer Doug O’Neill and Flavien Prat. Blinkers off today and 2 for 2 ITM over the SA course. This son of Oxbow cuts back in distance from his last start in the BC Classic and Prat should be right on the pace or in the pocket stalking close. Tons of back class and should be the major danger for a strong trainer/rider team today. #5 Eight Rings is a speedy son of Empire Maker for Bob Baffert and  John Velasquez. Look for a very quick break from the gate and Johnny V will rate him nicely looking to wire the field. Very nice work coming into the race. #7 Azul Coast is a stalker from the Bob Baffert barn who may benefit from the early speed of his entry mate. 2nd time off the layoff and J.J. Hernandez chose this runner over two others in the field. He may get the perfect trip sitting just off the speed.

Race#7 – The G2 Santa Anita Mile – 1 mile on the turf – 5:12 pm Analysis / #7 – Du Jour / #8 – Beyond Brilliant / #9 – Law Professor

#7 Du Jour is a late runner for Bob Baffert drops down a class level with Flavie Prat in the irons. Ships in from Kyd and should make a nice late run around turn, and Prat wins 55% teaming up with Baffert. Cuts back in distance and should stalk the leaders looking for the perfect trip under Flavien Prat. #8 Beyond Brillant is 3rd off the layoff for John Sheriffs and Kent Desormeaux. This son of Twirling Candy and is 3 for 3 ITM over the course and 5 for 5 ITM on the turf. The barn wins 20% with last race winners and should be placed forwardly in the field. #9 Law Professor is a late running son of Constitution for Mike McCarthy and Jose Ortiz gets the nod. He has a solid late kick but needs to make a big step in class to get in the picture.

Race #8 – #G1 La Brea – 7f – 5:44 pm Analysis / #4 – Private Mission / #7 – Livingmybestlife / #2 – Eddie’s New Dream

#4 Private Mission comes off a 50 break for Bob Baffert and Flavien Prat. The rider and trainer are 4 for 4 ITM the past few weeks and are winning 55% overall working together. She is a perfect 3 for 3 at SA and should improve at the shorter distance and stalk right off if not grab the lead under Prat. Addin a sharp work and she looks the one to beat. #7 Livingmybestlife is a speedy gal from the John Sadler barn with J.J. Hernadez in the irons. She sports a hot work and comes off a 53 day break from the races. #2 Eddie’s New Dream hails from the Ben Cecil barn and looks to be a candidate for a price to spice up exotics. She is a solid stalker who is 2 for 2 ITM over the course.

Race #10 – The G1 Runhappy – 7f – 6:49 pm Analysis / #5 – Flightline / #4 – Dr. Schivel / #1 – Baby Yoda

#5 Flightline hails from the John Sadler barn with Flavien Prat. This is a very special son of Tapit who has won his two races by a combined 25 lengths. Look for him to be on the lead or just a step off under Prat who wins 28% with early runners. The one to beat, and one to watch going forward. #4 Dr. Schivel is 3 for 3 ITM over the course and replaced in the saddle by J.J. Hernandez as Prat opts for the favorite. Solid runner coming off a 50 day break and just missed in the BC Sprint last out. He’ll need his best game and is more than capable of pulling the upset. #1 Baby Yoda has plenty of speed coming off a bad effort at Mahoning Valley under Jose Ortiz for Bill Mott. The trainer would not have him entered if not ready but maybe a couple notches over his head. His speed on the rail is attractive.

Race#11 – The G1 American Oaks – 1 1/4 on the turf – 7:20 pm Analysis / #5 – Going Global / #7 – Burgoo Alley / #9 – Queen Goddess

#5 Going Global goes to post for Phil D’Amato and Flavien Prat. She is a perfect 4 for 4 over the SA course and regally bred seeking her third straight win. A late runner under the turf master Prat scores 28% with his closers on the turf. Her dam Wrood has 3 starters, 3 winners, and 3 winners on the turf. He’ll come calling late under a full head of steam. #7 Burgoo Alley is a stalker for Phil D’Amato and has the services of Umberto Rispoli. She should be closer to the pace and the rider wins 21% with his stalkers. #9 Burgoo Queen hails from Mike McCarthy barn with Jose Ortiz getting the call. Cuts back in distance and sports a red hot work in the morning. Looks like the perfect price for your exotics.
