by: Ed Meyer

Race#7 – The G3 Maple Leaf – 1 1/4 – 3:56 pm Analysis / #3 – Skygaze / #1 -Merveilleux / #5 – La Lune

#3 Skygaze 3rd off the layoff for this daughter of American Pharoah for Mark Casse and is 6 for 7 ITM and Casse is winning at 21% for the meet. She is a stalker and Patrick Husbands in the irons should have her in close range to launch a bid on the far turn. She was a beaten favorite last out and Casse wins 23% on this move looking for payback. #1 Merveilleux is a late runner from the Kevin Attard barn and drops in class from the G1 E.P Taylor. Justin Stein the reinsman and should launch a big run against company more suited to her needs. Rider and trainer wins 29% at a team. #5 La Lune makes her third off the layoff move for the Edward Vaughn barn with David Moran in the saddle. She adds Lasix today and ships in from Keeneland where she was heavily bet at the windows. She cuts back in distance and goes turf to dirt where the barn wins 22%.

Race#8 – The G2 Bessarabian- 7f – 4:26 pm Analysis / #4 – Lady Speightspear/ #7 – Our Secret Agent / #9 – Tuned

#4 Lady Speightspear is a perfect 3 for 3 for the Roger Attfield barn with Emma Jayne Wilson in the saddle. She goes turf to synthetic and been off two months and the rider and trainer are 3 for 3 ITM the past week. She has a blast of speed and should be forwardly placed. Rider and trainer win 27%, and I’m looking for a forward break. #7 Our Secret Agent is a late running fliiy for Mark Casse. She is 8 for 8 ITM over the course and 5 for 5 ITM at the distance. Kazushi Kimura has the call and they are teaming up to win 21% as a team. #9 – Tuned hails from the Graham Motion barn with Daisuke Fukumoto in the irons. She’s a late runner shipping back from Laurel seeking her 4th straight win. The barn wins 22% going turf to synthetic. She has run on many different ovals and doesn’t need to take her track with her. Moves up in class from her last start and should be a player down the lane.

Del Mar

Race#8 – The Desi Arnaz – 6 1/2f – 7:00 pm Analysis / #5 – Eda / #4 – Tonito’s / #3 – Under the Stars

#5 Eda hails from the Bob Baffert barn with Flavien Prat in the saddle. Once she dropped back to non graded stakes, she was impressive last out winning easily. Prat wins 45% for Baffert and should be right on point from the gate break. If left alone, she can put out the lights quickly. #4 Tonito’s is a fast closing daughter of Blame who will be rolling from the clouds for Doug O’Neill and Mario Gutierrez. She goes turf to dirt, and rider and trainer have been winning 25% as a team. Look for a wide closing effort when the real running begins. #3 Under the Stars is a late runner for the Baffert barn wo is adding blinkers today off a beaten favorite effort. This daughter of Pioneer of the Nile has a bullet work and the barn wins 35% with babies.
